Chapter nine

Shawn

It's the day of the funeral for Abbigail's Aunt Carolyn. I was dressed in my ceremonial uniform from the Marines. I had my walking boot on and finishing up straightening my medals when Abbigail steps out of our closet. She was wearing a form fitted dress that showed off the small bump she was starting to form.

She wore her hair in its usual manner and a pair of black flats to finish her outfit. I walk up to her and her hands roam, getting a feel of me in my uniform. Her hands reach my face and her sad eyes showed concern for me.

"What's scaring you," she asks with concern.

"That wearing this at your aunt's funeral is going to trigger my PTSD, but I want to wear this out of respect for your aunt's service in the Air Force," I say in a scared whisper.

She gives me a sad smile and gives me a kiss. "I'll be right there next to you," she says softly, coming in my arms.

My mother knocks on the doorway and asks, "Are you two ready to leave?"
