Chapter Three

Theo's POV

I awoke to her touching my face as she studied me. She hadn't noticed I was watching, even revelling in her touch until she almost screamed blue murder.

I can only presume her wolf woke up too.

With her eyes glazed over, I took a sure, steady breath in just to smell her.

It's been six days of me sitting here in this room even though I have work to do, and I still haven't got my fix off of her.

I should be out there asking other packs if they are missing a pack member, be trying to get her home where she belongs and back to the mate I've seen in her memories, but I've done none of that.

And that's not because Rex has stopped me, either. I just. I don't know. I guess I've been overtly selfish.

Maybe I'm banking on her demanding to go home, for me to drive her to every pack that borders my own.

Maybe that would be in her best interest, but I know it isn't mine.

I'm not young. In fact, I'm way past my sell-by date to find my mate and as an alpha, not having an heir to pass my legacy down to means at any point, one of my pack members could deem themself worthy and try to challenge me for my title.

I need my Luna and the child that would come from our mating.

After teasing her slightly, I leave the girl to get her water and food. The good doctor already gave me a suggestion of foods she could have when her body decided to wake.

I reach the kitchen with a plan.

Taking the eggs out of the fridge, I crack three into a bowl whisking a little milk into them before pinching some salt and pepper for taste.

I heat the frying pan and go about making her some scrambled eggs whilst I place one piece of bread in the toaster.

'Alpha, you cooking us breakfast?' Lucas teases through mind-link.

'The Luna has awoken?' I remark as the toaster pops up, announcing the bread is done. I butter it placing it in the middle of the plate I source from the cupboard before pouring the eggs on top.

'Haven't even mated yet, and you've gone soft...' he teases.

'Maybe I should refuse your requests to go home and hump when Lisa feels like it. I bet that will have you running around with your tail between your legs,' I joke.

'You wouldn't, would you?' He asks.

I laugh aloud, placing the cutlery and unopened bottle of water on a tray with the food before replying.

'I'm not that stupid. I don't need your mate flipping out on me.' I tell him, walking back up the stairs to the guest room that holds Lilith.

She's muttering to herself in the closet about the clothes I've chosen.

"White, who wears white?" She asks herself, I think.

Note to self, don't buy any more white clothes.

"Couldn't he have chosen anything black or grey? Jesus, what the fuck is this?" She asks, making me laugh out loud again.

'What's so funny, Alpha?'

'She hates my choice of clothing apparently,' I tell him.

'Want me to ask Calley to take her shopping?' He proposes.

'I think that might be the best idea, now leave me alone and get back to work,' I tell him, knowing he's guarding the pack house with a few of the others.

I'm still not sure who this girl is. I know her name only by her memories. No one has sent out a search party, and we've heard nothing from surrounding packs claiming a lost pack member.

She could be of importance, or she could just have landed here on my land because of fate.

Maybe Celeste gave her a helping hand in finding me.

One could wish, right?

Celeste has made you wait for a reason. She is destined for great things. Rex tells me.

How do you know that?

I may have tried to speak to her wolf. He retorts proudly.

But we aren't mated yet. How did you do that? I asked, knocking on the bedroom door.

You healed her. It opened up a gateway for me to contact Abyss.

Abyss?

That's her wolf's name.

Lilith drops something as she walks through the bedroom to open the door. Her face is flushed as she pulls the door open to find me standing just on the other side. She's wearing a pair of skin-tight blue jeans and a frilly white top that sits off her shoulders. She looks good, if I do say so myself. Her gaze follows my own, and she sighs exasperated.

"Water and food. I believe you have already used the bathroom." I smile at her.

"Why did you knock?"

"Because you are my guest," I say, nodding towards the room and asking for permission to enter.

"Oh, right. Well, come in then," she says, opening the door wide for me and stepping back, so I have the clearance to enter the room without so much as brushing past her. I head for the bed, placing the tray down at the foot.

"Come eat. I have some questions," I demand a little more forcefully than I intended.

"Okay," she says feebly, following instructions. I notice she doesn't shut the door leaving it open ajar.

Strange.

"Eat," I say as she reaches for the tray pulling it up the bed. She first reaches for the water bottle, uncapping it to gulp the whole fucking thing down. The bottle creaks and cracks under the strength of her hand as she tips her head back to drink every last drop closing her eyes as if the water could cause orgasmic endorphins to run through her blood.

I raise my brows at her when she finally tips her face down, so our eyes meet.

"I was thirsty," she shrugs, placing the bottle down to reach for the cutlery, "ask your questions then, Alpha Theo."

"Do you remember anything?" She shrugs, shoving eggs into her mouth. She chews for an age moaning her happiness as her tummy rumbles with hunger.

"I was being chased, I think. By men, that's all I remember before waking in your river," she says, cutting some toast to place into her mouth.

She's lying. They is something else. Rex tells me as I watch her swallow down her toast.

"And?" I prompt.

"And?" She questions, loading her fork again.

"Your keeping something. If you don't tell me all you know, how will I find your rightful pack?"

"What if I don't want you to find my pack?" She stumps me there and intrigues me.

"So you remember something more then, that something making you not want to go home?" she shrugs her shoulders again, eating more food.

"I don't remember, only one name. It's more a feeling, something telling me I escaped from danger I have no business going back to," I sit forward with the help of Rex, who is more intrigued by her words than I am.

"The name Lilith," he says through my body, his voice deeper, rougher than my own.

She stops chewing to stare at me. I'm sure she's seen my eyes change colour before her as I battle control back from Rex. She swallows loudly.

"What was that?" She asks.

"I am Rex. Theo's wolf. I want an answer. The name Lilith?" she frowns, staring down at the plate but doesn't move to take more food; instead, her body stiffens as she talks down to the bed.

"The last thing she remembers is hitting her head and screaming for Khai," Her voice changes, and I know instantly her wolf has taken over, and I only just get back control from Rex as she slumps forward, fainting into my arms.

Does her wolf remember anything? I feel like since they’re usually separate entities, they’d hold their memories
