LUCIAN

When I pushed the door open, the room felt small, like the walls had been waiting for me the whole time.

Elias was already there.

He wasn’t sitting, he was pacing back and forth. His boots dragged a low, angry sound across the floor. His shoulders were tense. His hands kept opening and closing, like he was trying not to punch something.

The air smelled like that woodsy-spice scent again. Strong. Sharp. It wrapped around me even though I didn’t want it.

He stopped when he saw me.

His eyes narrowed. “How dare you?"

I closed the door behind me. Slowly. “You wanted honesty,” I said. “You got it.”

He laughed … short, harsh. “Honesty? That was not honesty. That was humiliation. You rejected your king … in public. In front of the elders. In front of the pack. In front of everyone.”

“It was still my answer,” I said.

He moved closer. “You think this is about answers?”

“What else would it be about?”

He stared at me like he wanted to shake me. “I made a decision that would protect the pa

This was the best chapter of this book for me. I loved reading Lucian explode. Elias needed to hear everything and more. He really doesn't deserve Lucian.
