LUCIAN

I stared long and hard at the sea of trees around me. Flashes of the ocean closing in on me suddenly filled my vision like red, blind spots and my fingers clutch my chest for survival.

I let out a grotesque, rattling cough that instantly knocked me flat to the ground and a handful of dust splatters all over my face and into my already congested nostrils.

“P…p…pl…ease….help” I choked out, feeling my body submerge into the deep ocean. My existence to forever be forgotten.

Just then, I cried out in pain as I felt a sharp sting somewhere on my thighs. My eyes snapped open, instantly adjusting to the darkness surrounding me from where I laid, tucked between the sturdy branches of a tree.

A brief sigh of relief escaped my lips to discover I'd only had a bad dream. The same recurring dream for the past three nights I'd spent in the heart of this forest.

Perhaps it was only trying to show me the possibility of things ending this way for me by returning to the palace.
