The hours carried on, but neither of us had left her side. Twenty-two hours into it, she finally regained consciousness.

Gabriel and I had stayed in chairs beside her because we were not certain how she would feel when she woke up, unsure of what all she remembered. We did not want her to be uncomfortable. However, she demanded that we get into bed with a promise that she would verbalize if something became too much.

It was amazing that she had been with Sophia while she was unconscious. This was her being able to experience time with her mother instead of only seeing past events. It was easy to see how much the experience meant to her.
