Chapter 65
LYRA
Chase shoves the books that are in his arms into James’s hands and pushes his way into the house. I have never seen him this way before he looks crazed. His nose is in the air, and he is sniffing his way around the house.
“Uhhh,” I poke him in the shoulder trying to get his attention. “Are you okay?”
“It smells so good in here,” he says as he pulls me in for a quick hug, but his nose never leaves the air.
I cannot help but grin, I know exactly what is happening and it is comical that he has no clue. “What do you smell?” I ask him not trying to hide the amusement on my face.
“Vanilla,” he whispers. “Like cupcakes with icing. Is someone making cupcakes?”
“Not that I am aware of,” James winks at me, he obviously knows what is going on as well.
Suddenly Annie, appears at the top of the stairs. She is wearing the pink sundress I gave to her.

ANDREWAs soon as the sun rises the next morning, I yank the covers off of Lyra and James. James lets out a threatening growl and pulls Lyra in closer for warmth. JAMES“I think it is okay,” Lyra says as she shuffles gently on her feet. But I know this place, this place is anything but ‘okay.’ Grace opens the door to the tearoom; the smell of incense and cookies wafts out of the room. ANDREW James and I decided that we would walk down the spiral staircase convinced that we would eventually reach the bottom. But every level that we hit looks identical to the level that was above it. The pictures on the walls and each doorway is always the same. We have been walking for what feels like forever. The view from the windows never changes. The sun has not risen since we have been in the tower. It is the dead of night, and the sky is void of any moon or stars.
