For a brief second, my mind goes blank. Delilah's breathing has slowed. I quickly check her pulse to find it has become weak. She's not supposed to react like this. Something is definitely wrong.

"Delilah! Delilah!" I try to jolt her awake, shake her, pull down her eyelids, but nothing works.

She remains mute and unmoving. My heart begins to race.

"Alexander! What do I do?"

"Hold her hand, speak to her wolf," Alexander says.

I take hold of Delilah's cold hands and close my eyes, concentrating as hard as I can. Alexander tries to reach out to Ashley, Delilah's wolf. A minute passes and there's no response. Yet, Delilah continues to freeze to her possible demise.

I open my eyes to look at her. There's no way I'm letting her die. For some strange reason apart from the investigation, I feel like I'm responsible for her safety.

"Concentrate!" Alexander urges.

Closing my eyes, I try to connect with Delilah again. A couple of minutes later I open my eyes in frustra

  • Fated to the war general    35. A Whole New World

Delilah's POVI stepped into the light and it has brought me into a dark hollow abyss. All around me is a black nothingness that reaches into my soul. Is this death? The laughter of a child meets my ears and I turn around. Suddenly I see myself back in the Silver Crest pack, cradled in my mother's arms. She sings a soft lullaby for me while we both sit under the moonlight. The night breeze plays through her golden hair. I reach up and have a feel of it on my fingers. Looking down at me, she smiles warmly and cuddles me even closer. It's all a good memory until all of a sudden she starts coughing. It first starts off as something minimal, then she lets go of me and holds onto her chest. That's the first night her sickness started to show up. My smile disappears as the scene plays out before me. "Mum!" I reach forward and try to hold her but my hand passes through her body like a ghost. I open my palm before me and look at it in dread. What's happening? The scene changes and now I

  • Fated to the war general    34. Shocker Of My life

Cecile's POV I knew something was definitely wrong when two of the council members arrived at the pack, insisting on searching the place. Through my window, I watch General Kane come in a while later. There was something suspicious about the way he came in and the time he did. After watching them for some time, I rush downstairs to follow General Kane. From a distance, I listen intently as he brings out his phone and puts a call through to his Beta, Ezekiel. His voice sounds from the distance, low and calculated, "Clear up the evidence..."My eyebrows knit together in thought. Clear up the evidence? What could he possibly mean? He ends his call and starts walking back to join the council members. On my way to my room, I come across Father and immediately rush to him. "Dad?" I call, getting his attention. "Why are the council members here?""They're searching for Delilah. If you're asked, she isn't here, okay?" "Okay. But where is she?" I probe further, tailing along with him.

  • Fated to the war general    33. Burden

Kane's POVThe messengers have already spent a lot of time in Blood Moon. Based on the orders from the Ultima, the Sentinels join them to search the houses and surrounding woods for any sign of Delilah. Right now, we're all supposed to be at the beck and call of these 'messengers' the Ultima has sent. But I refuse to stoop so low. I'm their commanding General and will continue to act from that place of authority. Ever since I returned from the Cedar Wood pack, I've been waiting for them in my office. I know they will come to me with more questions. So I mentally prepare myself. Close to two hours later, a knock comes on the door and it opens as Ezekiel walks in. "The messengers are here," he announces. "Let them in."Ezekiel returns to the door and opens it for two dark-haired men to walk in. I immediately recognise them as part of the council members. "General Kane," One calls out in greeting. "Long time no see," he says before stopping at the edge of my table and putting one f

Delilah's POVEzekiel's voice sounds from the doorway as he speaks to the general. The Ultima has sent two messengers to Blood Moon. Why now? After the fight has ended. General Kane turns back and looks at me. From his expression, I know I'm in deep trouble. My heart starts to race in my chest as he moves towards my bed.He holds the top of the backrest of the chair and roughly pushes it to the ground, groaning loudly. He paces about in the room, balling his fists. "What's the matter?" I ask him,  sitting upright. He stops and turns in my direction but doesn't look directly at me at first. I swallow uneasily and adjust myself on the edge of the bed.He snaps his head up as if an idea has just come to him. "Can you run?" he asks hastily.I nod in reply even though I don't feel too strong."Come on, come on," he says, motioning for me to get up."Where are we going?" I ask, following him out of the room

Kane's POVPanic strikes my heart when I find Delilah gone. She promised me that she was going to stay in the room. Where exactly am I going to find her now?I rush out to check the second room Cecile had been in, only to find Cecile and her younger cousin alone."Have you guys seen Delilah?" I ask them. They both shake their head.Closing the door, I leave the place and rush to search for her outside. It's total chaos everywhere. The growling of wolves fills the air as sentinels fight against the rogues.Running through the commotion, I search for Delilah. A loud crash catches my attention and I look up to find her standing at the edge of a roof. Her eyes are bloodshot as she looks over the fighting happening down below.A sudden fear seizes my heart at the thought of her falling from that height. She elevates into the air and begins to float above the fighting crowd. Raising her hands, she lifts two rogues off the floor into the air with her telepathic powers and snaps their necks.

  • Fated to the war general    30. Invasion

Kane's POVDelilah's grip tightens on me in panic as she stares at the rogues. I let her down so she stands on her feet in the water. I rack my brain, trying to think of a way out of the place safely. My major worry is how to avoid any hurt coming to Delilah."You don't have to worry about me," she says as if reading my mind. I search her eyes for any sign of fear or nervousness but there's none. She looks at me reassuringly and nods. "We have to transform underwater since they're on the riverbank," I whisper to her,"can you do that?""I'll try," she says with a slight frown. "It's okay, I'll help you." My eyes dart around the place, weighing the situation. Turning back to face Delilah, I give her the signal, "Let's go." She joins me under the water and I hold her hand. First, I help her transform into her wolf before turning into mine. I jump out of the water first and land on the riverbank behind the line of rogues. With their attention on me, Delilah runs out of the water a
