Delilah

I open my eyes to a dimly lit room. A throbbing pain courses through my head and I sit upright, holding it. Beside me, General Kane sits with his eyes closed. My eyes widen in alarm when I see him shirtless. His chest and abdominal muscles are well-toned, and I feel like running my fingers over them. Realising myself, I slowly move away from him and look around the room.

Why are we here? And where is this place? General Kane opens his eyes and turns to me with a look of concern.

"How are you feeling? Does your arm still hurt?"

My arm? I look down at my left arm to see it tied with General Kane's shirt. I look up into his gaze again.

"It hurts a little," I reply and ask, "What happened?"

"You turned into a warlock."

"What? That has never occurred before."

"I'm not sure this is the first time. But whatever it is we will figure it out. You don't have to worry."

I shift my attention back to the room. Kane stands up and goes to check the monitors. I continue staring at him and

Kane's POVThey must be out of their mind to think they can arrest me. I'm practically their boss. What gives them the right?"If this is what you're here to do, Enzo, you'd better leave now."Enzo scoffs. "Is that fear? And where have you been all this time? Did you leave your pack to go meet someone? Maybe the girl you've been hiding from the rest of Avalon?"His reckless blames trigger my anger. I walk two steps towards Enzo, covering the space between us. We both look into each other's eyes. "And what does that mean?" I ask in a threatening manner. He looks at me squarely and says, "You're hiding the girl. Bring her out and let this end.""That's a strong allegation, do you know?"Breaking eye contact, he chuckles and takes one step back before looking at me again. "I will make sure to expose all your secrets. I know you have the girl. She never drowned in the river at Silver Lake."We engage in a short, intense stare-off, no one agreeing to yield. A frown dominates his expression

  • Fated to the war general    64. Back Home

Delilah's POVIf only tears could bring back the dead, I would cry a river. But it can't, so I have to get myself together and move on. Besides, there's trouble in the land of Avalon. And General Kane has to leave.I take one last look at the stone sitting at the top of the grave. There's no inscription on it to identify the owner. But fresh flowers are decorating it. Genevieve must have been really close to him for her to continue taking care of him up till this time. I stand up and head back to the room where everyone else is. Genevieve and Vivian have prepared the mirror."Delilah, are you okay?" Cecile asks, coming to meet me. We both hug and General Kane walks up to us. "Hey," he says, placing a hand on my arm and looking into my eyes. "Genevieve said you needed some time alone. Are you fine?"I nod and he wraps his arms around me in a hug. We separate as Genevieve approaches me with a knife. She has told me before this time, what I'm to do to help General Kane return home safe

  • Fated to the war general    63. Solemn

Delilah's POVAll my life, I've heard bad stories about my father. Now, standing before Genevieve I feel like I shouldn't ask. But I still do. "How did you get to meet him?" She presses her lips together and looks at me. "He was escaping Avalon when his portal opened up into this neighbourhood." My heart sinks with grief. "Escaping Avalon? Did he go through what I'm passing through now?" "Even worse." Tears well up in my eyes. Was his life that hard? I don't want to imagine what he must have passed through."I'll get back to Cecile and Kane," Vivian says and leaves us.Genevieve stares at me with compassion in her gaze. She taps her hand on the spot beside her under the shade of the tree. "Come, sit." I settle beside her, trying to comport myself. I'm already emotional about the topic of my father. Now I have to hear first-hand from someone who truly met him that he had a rough life. "Your father was the first to use the staff. According to what he told me, they were a clan of

  • Fated to the war general    62. It's not fair

Delilah's POV General Kane disappears through the portal and we watch silently. The oracle still has her eyes on the mirror, as if expecting something. I'm scared to even discover what it is. The portal is supposed to take Kane straight to Avalon. It's a simple thing, right? Except if there are complications she did not tell us about. I look at her with suspicion. "Ahh!" General Kane's voice comes through the mirror. I turn sharply to it. My eyes widen in alarm as he is flung out of the mirror as if pushed by a repulsive force. His back collides with the wall opposite the mirror and he falls to the ground with a groan. "Kane!" I shout and rush to hold him. "Are you okay?" I ask, examining his body for any signs of injury. Instead, his teeth are chattering like someone coming out of a freezer. He sits up and rests his back on the wall, rubbing his hands on his arms. His body is cold as ice. The oracle walks up to us with a heavy blanket in her hands. "It heats more than the norma

  • Fated to the war general    61. Let Go

Delilah's POV"Guys!" I shout, referring to Kane and Cecile. Cecile looks between the oracle and me. She rushes to Vivian, asking for help. Vivian finally comes to speak to me. "Delilah, calm down. The force field is automatic against the leader's enemies. You just need to let go of the will to fight her and trust her in everything she will be doing now." My mouth drops open as I study her expression silently. Finally, I give in. "Fine. I won't do anything against her." Putting my hands forward, I try the barrier again but it's still blocking me. Frowning, I let out a low, angry groan and look at Cecile. "I have told you what you need to do," she says and goes back to meet the Leader.Kane comes outside to meet me. He gives me an apologetic look and holds my hands. Cecile watches us from inside. "Why do you want to fight her so badly?" "I don't trust her. What if she does something wrong? Or tries to hurt you?" He tightens his grip on my hand. "You don't need to worry about th

  • Fated to the war general    60. Testing The Waters

Delilah's POVVivian pushes open the door with a squeal, and we all peer into the house. The place is shrouded in darkness, and we can barely see anything. "Let's go inside," she says and moves in.We follow her sceptically as she leads us to the oracle. First, we pass through a dark, old-fashioned kitchen, then proceed to a small passage with a staircase in front. She leads us confidently up the stairs to a hallway with rooms connecting it. She moves down to the end of the hallway. At the right is a red door. She opens it with ease, revealing a staircase leading down into a dark area.Cecile and I exchange fearful glances before continuing down the stairs. Vivian moves in and we follow her apprehensively. The place is cold and dark and there's a sound of dripping water coming from it.We come down the stairs, following Vivian's slow pace. At the base of the steps, my leg comes in contact with something wet and cold. "Water?" I whisper to the general. He looks equally surprised. Vi
