Delilah's POV

There aren't many cars in Avalon. So now riding in one feels pretty strange. I continue staring at the way Jake turns the steering wheel and controls the movement of the car.

"Do you know how to drive?"

I shake my head. "Never got the opportunity to learn."

"Wow! Really? Then I need to teach you."

My lips part open and I turn to face him fully. "What if I don't have an interest in driving?"

"Why won't you have an interest in driving? I mean," he shrugs, "it's a basic skill."

I shake my head and face forward.

"Are you scared?"

"No," I reply sharply, trying to hide the truth.

We come to a stop in front of a red light.

"Why are we stopping?" I ask him.

"That's a red light. You know about traffic lights, right?" he laughs.

His explanation adds to my confusion and his laughing makes it annoying. Jake stares at me for some seconds before putting his attention back on the road. The light turns green and we begin moving again.

I need to be careful with the kind of questi

  • Fated to the war general    40. Cecile

Cecile's POV A heavy force compresses all over me. It's like I'm not in control of my body. My mind is clouded with darkness and a cold that pierces through my bones. Where am I? Suddenly, a wave of water starts to flood my nostrils and I push myself upward instinctively. Thankfully my head breaks above the layer of water, getting into the air. My chest constricts as I get into a fit of coughing. The waves sway me and push me until I'm completely submerged underneath the water. My nostrils get flooded again and this time I'm not able to stop it. My breath seizes and I fall unconscious. A sharp pain in my chest wakes me up. Water rises up my throat and forces its way out of my mouth. I start coughing up the rest as a burning sensation arises in my throat and chest. The people around continue to move in a rowdy manner. I don't realise I'm lying on a stretcher until they lift me up with it and put me in the back of a van. "You're going to be fine, okay? Just breathe..." A lady says

  • Fated to the war general    38. Sneaking out

Delilah's POV I sit down on the stairs leading up to Denise's front door and wait for her to show up. "I'm so sorry, Delilah. Hope I did not keep you waiting for long?" Denise says, walking up to the house. "No, it's fine," I reply while standing up. She unlocks the door to her apartment and pushes it open. Initially, we meet a dark house before she turns on the light switch, and light floods the living room. It has two couches and a small centre table. There's a television sitting on a console. Beyond the living room is the kitchen and dining area, demarcated from the living room by a half wall. "Welcome to my humble abode," Denise says, walking to the kitchen to drop her bag on the dining table. I move further into the room painted in soft pink. "You have an amazing place, Denise. Thanks for allowing me to stay." "You're welcome, dear. My roommate just moved last week and her room is still in order. I've been looking for who to share the place with." She lead

  • Fated to the war general    37. Employment

Delilah's POV"New York?" I repeat after him just to be sure I'm hearing correctly.Jake looks at me blankly. This is worse than death. I can't be in the human world. What if they discover that I'm a werewolf? Just imagine all the despicable treatment I'd receive. "Do you have a place to stay?" Jake's voice breaks into my thoughts. I blink at him and shake my head. "You can work for my mum. Her daily wages should be enough to find you fairly good accommodation for the night." I continue to stare at Jake in confusion. This can't be happening. There's no way the staff of doom sends people to the human world. How do I leave this place? How do I return to Avalon now?"Hello?" Jake waves his hand in front of my face. "Now I remember, you never told me your name.""Delilah. My name is Delilah," I tell him."Alright, Delilah. So are you taking the job? I can teach you the ropes myself."I study his expression, contemplating whether I should trust him or not. "Sure. Yes. I will take the j

"You think you can beat me? Look at this little girl.""I'm no little girl," I reply in a serious tone.He reaches to grab me by the neck and I push his arm away. • Fated to the war general    35. A Whole New World

Delilah's POVI stepped into the light and it has brought me into a dark hollow abyss. All around me is a black nothingness that reaches into my soul. Is this death? The laughter of a child meets my ears and I turn around. Suddenly I see myself back in the Silver Crest pack, cradled in my mother's arms. She sings a soft lullaby for me while we both sit under the moonlight. The night breeze plays through her golden hair. I reach up and have a feel of it on my fingers. Looking down at me, she smiles warmly and cuddles me even closer. It's all a good memory until all of a sudden she starts coughing. It first starts off as something minimal, then she lets go of me and holds onto her chest. That's the first night her sickness started to show up. My smile disappears as the scene plays out before me. "Mum!" I reach forward and try to hold her but my hand passes through her body like a ghost. I open my palm before me and look at it in dread. What's happening? The scene changes and now I
