Chapter 7

مؤلف: KarenW
Seraphina’s POV

Vivienne was absolutely unhinged.

I turned without a word and started walking away.

I didn’t even make it ten steps before I heard the scream.

I spun around just in time to see Vivienne crumpling down the staircase.

And unfortunately, I was the only one standing nearby.

Kael came flying out of the adjacent hallway. His eyes scanned the scene, locked on Vivienne splayed on the floor—then immediately on me, standing next to the stairs.

“Vivienne!” he shouted, running toward her.

He didn’t even care when he nearly knocked me over.

Pain shot up my ankle as I hit the floor, a sharp, burning throb that made my breath catch.

And just like that, I knew— my last night in the States was going to be anything but peaceful.

I was already back in my room when I heard the door fly open.

I didn’t need to guess who it was.

But seeing him still made me flinch.

Kael looked angrier than I’d ever seen him. Angrier than when his casino staff skimmed ten million off the books. Angrier than when he found out his security chief had been leaking intel to a rival family.

“Kael,” I started, voice low. “Listen to me. I didn’t—”

He laughed. Sharp and humorless.

“Another accident?” he said, voice slicing through the air. “Another one of Vivienne’s elaborate performances? Really?”

He stepped closer, slowly, like a storm about to hit.

“She’s pregnant, Seraphina. Do you understand that? What kind of woman would risk her own child just to put on a show?”

His hand clamped around my chin—so hard it felt like he meant to break it. Pain bloomed sharp and hot along my jaw as I tried to jerk away.

“Kael,” I gasped, “I didn’t do this. You know me.”

“Do I?” he said, voice bitter. He released me like I’d burned him. “I thought I knew you. But these last few days… You’re not innocent, Seraphina. You’re calculating. You’re dangerous. And the worst part?”

His eyes flicked over me with open disgust.

“I just realized that I’d saved a monster that night. Not a victim.”

He yanked the pistol from his belt and leveled it at me.

“I’d really hate for it to come to this,” he said, voice cold. “But let me make one thing clear—if I ever catch you laying a hand on my woman or our baby again, I won’t hesitate. I’ll put a bullet in your head. Do you understand me?”

The barrel didn’t so much as twitch. Neither did his eyes.

Then—click.

The door creaked open.

Kael holstered the pistol smoothly, as if nothing had happened.

“Babe,” It was Lila, “I brought you some clothes. For tomorrow. In case it’s cold when you… fly.”

Kael turned slowly, narrowing his eyes. “You’re leaving?”

I met his stare evenly. “No.”

Kael hesitated, jaw working as if weighing a hundred things. Then he turned to leave.

He stopped at the door, one hand on the frame.

He didn’t even bother to look back.

“Will you come?” he asked. “To the wedding. Tomorrow.”

“Kael, you absolute asshole—I swear—” Lila shot up from the bed like she was ready to fight him right then and there.

I reached for her hand and gently tugged her back down.

“I’m not going,” I said, calmly. “Rest assured, Kael. I won’t ruin your happiest day.”

“But I do hope you and Vivienne live happily ever after.”

“You’d better not try anything else stupid,” Kael muttered without even turning back to look at me. “Or I won’t hesitate to follow through on my warning.”

Then he slammed the door behind him.

Lila let out a long breath and collapsed beside me again, wiping her face with the back of her sleeve. “Why won’t you just tell him that you’re leaving the country? That you’re never coming back?”

“What’s the point? It’s not like he ever cared.”

And I’m done with the drama. I don’t want anything more to do with Kael Viremont.

My mother sent the jet early. She couldn’t wait to see me.

And honestly? The feeling was mutual.

Lila was the only one who came to say goodbye.

“I’m definitely visiting,” she said, hugging me so hard I almost couldn’t breathe. “I already told my baby bear that our honeymoon’s in Italy. That way I get you and pasta.”

I laughed, burying my face in her shoulder. “I told my dad to give you a mansion,” I whispered. “Come whenever. It’s yours. Consider it your second home.”

Even as I boarded the plane, I could still see Lila waving from the window. Tears streaming down her face.

Just as I sat down in my seat, my phone buzzed. Kael.

His name on the screen nearly stopped my heart.

I hesitated for only a second then I pressed decline.

I powered the phone off, slid the SIM card out with practiced ease, and dropped it into the trash.

The engine roared to life. Lila’s figure blurred through the glass.

I looked out at the city—New York, in all its brutal beauty.

One last glance. One final exhale.

May we never meet again, Kael.

Enjoy your wedding. Just like you wanted.

There’ll never be a naive Seraphina Dusk bothering you again. I left her behind—dead and buried in New York.

And me?

I’m starting over.

  • Fell for My Father’s Best Friend   Chapter 15

Kael’s POVI didn’t move. Not for a long time. Not since Seraphina walked out with that guy—Josh something?I couldn’t even remember his full name. All I knew was that I was angry.No—furious.And I didn’t even know why. Maybe it was because, in my head, I’d imagined our reunion so differently. She was supposed to run toward me, arms wide, eyes wet. She was supposed to fall into me like she used to—like she belonged there.Instead, she wrapped herself around him.Josh. Whatever-his-last-name-was. Was he rich? Was he powerful? Was he better than me?No. Couldn’t be. Sure, my casino business wasn’t exactly thriving these days—not after the fallout with Eric, and the media circus he’d dragged me into. Investors pulled out. Whispers started. A few too many people started looking at me like I was no longer invincible. But I still had my name. My weight in the mafia circle. And more than that—I had Seraphina. Or I thought I did.I knew her. I knew every inch of her. Her favorite movies.

  • Fell for My Father’s Best Friend   Chapter 14

Seraphina’s POVI had no idea how to explain any of this.Hi, Dad. Your best friend, also the man you told me to call Uncle, also the man I loved, who cut me off with a fake wedding.Right. No.Before I could muster a coherent lie, Josh bowed his head slightly. “I was just speaking with Sera. She asked me to take her out for some fresh air. If that’s alright with you, Mr. Dusks.”Under a hundred curious Mafia gazes, Josh laced his fingers through mine—openly, intentionally—and gave my father a polite nod.Father’s gaze flicked to our joined hands. For a terrifying second I thought he’d explode. But instead, he paused… then smiled and patted my shoulder. “Go. I can handle things here.”Josh didn’t wait. He pulled me gently through the crowd, and I let him. His hand was warm. When we passed Kael, he reached out—like he was about to grab me again—but stopped midway. His hand dropped, useless, frustrated.I glanced over my shoulder. He was still staring. And he looked furious. Why? Why be

  • Fell for My Father’s Best Friend   Chapter 13

Seraphina’s POVFather had set the dinner party at one of the finest hotels downtown. When Josh and I arrived, I expected something small. Intimate. A dinner with maybe four people max.Instead, I walked straight into a ballroom of at least a hundred guests, chandeliers blazing overhead and champagne flutes already clinking in celebration.“Oh no,” I muttered. “Not again, Father.”“Sera!” My father’s voice boomed across the room. “Everyone—my daughter is here! The one who closed the deal at the Dusks casino today!”A wave of applause erupted. I could feel my cheeks flush with heat.“Josh,” I whispered, mortified. “I didn’t know it would be... this kind of party.”This wasn’t just a family dinner—it was a full-blown gathering. A meet-and-greet for every major mafia family within a hundred-mile radius. And suddenly, I wasn’t so sure bringing Josh was a great idea.He wasn’t from this world.Except—he kind of was.Josh didn’t flinch. In fact, he looked like he belonged. Confident, easy, s

Seraphina’s POVEver since I joined my parents in Italy, my days had been packed with trying to learn the ins and outs of my father’s business. Meetings. Tours. Handshakes. Names I was supposed to remember. Numbers I tried not to hate.I told myself the chaos helped—kept my mind from wandering back to New York, to everything that had gone wrong there.Today was no different. One of my father’s staff was walking me through the vineyard, explaining something about harvest schedules and grape acidity, when my phone buzzed.Lila.“Have you heard?” she said before I could even say hi. “Vivienne and Eric are both locked up. Locked. Up. And Kael? His casino and reputation are getting torn apart by gossip columns. The whole New York mafia scene is getting a deep cleanse.”She sounded positively gleeful.I didn’t mean to douse her excitement, but truthfully, I didn’t care. Not anymore. So I said the only thing I felt, “It’s about time.”Lila didn’t linger. “How’s Italy? Have you met any cute gu

Kael’s POV“Mr. Viremont,” my assistant said over the phone, “We’ve secured Vivienne Walter inside your casino. But her mental state seems... unstable. As for Eric Williams—he disappeared from the hospital. He hasn’t made any public appearance since. We suspect he’s waiting for your story to break first, then planning to stir the waters.”I hummed in acknowledgment and ended the call.I’d left the hospital in such a hurry—so desperate to chase after Seraphina—that I’d let that bastard Eric slip away. But at least I still had Vivienne.Keeping her close was strategic. She was leverage. Eric wouldn’t stay away forever. Not when the woman carrying his child was in my hands. And if this scandal went public, it would blow back on both of us. Eric wasn’t just some nobody—he was publicly known as my friend. He’d go down too. So I hoped I can negotiate a meeting with him. But I hadn’t realized just how far gone he was.On the third day—right after I’d left Vivienne’s room (where she still ref

  • Fell for My Father’s Best Friend   Chapter 10

Kael’s POVMy jaw clenched.Eric went on, tone mocking. “I was just tired of playing your shadow. I’m just as smart as you. Just as rich. But no—you always had to be the golden boy. The one everyone looked up to. You think being friends with you makes people grateful? Like you’re some damn godfather doing us favors?”My pulse was a dull roar in my ears.“My family’s drug empire only took off because of your contacts?” Eric sneered. “Yeah, keep believing that. The mighty Kael Viremont—single-handedly helping everyone make their fortune. Want a medal for it?”He pulled out his phone. “Just wait. Let’s see how well your precious casino holds up when the headlines drop. I hope you enjoy watching everything burn.”Vivienne chimed in, “I still can’t believe that stupid girl Seraphina actually loved you. Honestly, I don’t know who’s dumber—her or you.”She tilted her head mockingly. “Oh, wait. Speaking of Seraphina… you’re free now, aren’t you? Ready to chase her down like some tragic hero?”
