Colette

I was scrolling through my phone that morning when the news about me and the twins with Oliver popped up again.

I wanted to ignore it like I'd been doing for the past week because the news had been circulating constantly and I knew that the internet just needed one new event or scandal to happen and my own news would stop being spread everywhere.

People had short attention spans and something else would capture their interest soon enough.

But I thought against ignoring it this time.

  • Five Years On The Run: The Billionaire's Secret Baby   COLLISION

ColetteI went to the burger spot Oliver had mentioned the next morning.I told myself it was just because I was curious about the food and that it had nothing to do with him. That I would have checked out any restaurant recommendation from anyone regardless of who it came from. But I knew I was lying to myself. It was a small, loud, wonderful spot tucked between a dry cleaner and a bookstore. The kind of place you could walk past a hundred times without noticing. Inside it was crowded with people sitting at mismatched tables and the smell of grilling meat filled the air.I ordered at the counter and found a small table in the corner. The burger arrived quickly and it was exactly as good as Oliver had said. Perfectly cooked with fresh ingredients and a sauce that I couldn't identify but wanted to eat by the spoonful.I was sitting there alone halfway through my meal when Oliver slid into the seat across from me.I looked up startled and nearly choked on my food. "Oliver? What are you

  • Five Years On The Run: The Billionaire's Secret Baby   REALIZATIONS

OliverI'd always known that Elijah wasn't like other kids.He was smarter and more perceptive and more expressive in a way that made even adults feel like he was older than his age. He noticed things that most four year olds wouldn't pick up on and he asked questions that showed he was thinking deeply about the world around him.On the drive to school that morning Lea was quiet in the backseat looking out the window while Elijah sat next to her looking thoughtful. I glanced at him in the rearview mirror and saw him watching me with those gray eyes that were so much like my own."Dad?" he said."Yes?""I think you like Colette."I almost swerved the car. "What?""I think you like her. Like the way people like each other in movies. The way they look at each other and smile and want to be together all the time.""Elijah, that's not something you should be thinking about.""I think about a lot of things," he said matter of factly. "And I think you should just confess to Colette already

  • Five Years On The Run: The Billionaire's Secret Baby   Aftermath

ColetteThe kiss was soft and careful even.It wasn't rushed in any way but it had a whole lot of emotions packed into it that made my chest feel tight and my head feel light. His lips were just like I remembered them from years ago when we'd been two strangers in a hotel room, but they were even better now because the emotions and everything were actually there this time.We both knew who we were kissing and why we were kissing and what it meant. His hands stayed on my face holding me gently like I was something precious and my hands pressed against his chest feeling his heartbeat racing just as fast as mine. The kiss deepened and I felt myself melting into him and forgetting where I ended and he began.I was the one who broke the kiss because I was starting to feel lightheaded and dizzy. I just had to break away from him before I passed out right there in the hallway. I pulled back gasping slightly and trying to catch my breath.Oliver looked down at me with his eyes dark and hi

  • Five Years On The Run: The Billionaire's Secret Baby   BEGINNING

ColetteThat evening Oliver came to the hotel for the first time since my suspension and it wasn't for work.I was in my office finishing up some paperwork when I looked up and saw him leaning against my doorframe with his hands in his pockets. He was wearing jeans and a casual shirt instead of his usual suit and he looked relaxed in a way I wasn't used to seeing."Hi," I said."Hi. Are you busy?""Just finishing up. Why?""I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner with me."I looked at him trying to figure out what he meant. "Dinner?""Yes. Not as co-parents scheduling custody arrangements. Not as employer and employee discussing hotel business. Just dinner."My heart started beating faster. "Like a date?""If you want to call it that. Or we could just call it two people having a meal together and see what happens."I looked at him for a long moment trying to decide if I was ready for this. We'd been through so much together and we'd built something real but taking this step felt

  • Five Years On The Run: The Billionaire's Secret Baby   CORNERED

VivianI'd been charged and the arrest was coming any day now.The charges were conspiracy, corporate sabotage, and embezzlement interference. My lawyer had tried to explain what each one meant and how serious they were but I'd stopped listening halfway through because I already knew I was finished.Oliver's legal team had built a case that was impossible to fight. They had recordings and documents and testimony from Julian and Sarah and dozens of other people I'd thought were on my side. Every move I'd made for the past three years had been documented and analyzed and presented in a way that made me look like a criminal.I was restless and terrified and I badly wanted to run away from the country. If I could just get somewhere far enough away I could wait for this to blow over or find a way to start fresh where no one knew my name.So I went to the airport with a bag packed and a ticket to Paris in my hand. I'd picked France because they had complicated extradition laws and because

  • Five Years On The Run: The Billionaire's Secret Baby   AGREEMENT

LeaElijah and I had clearly been conspiring and we were very proud of ourselves. We'd spent all afternoon working on our special project and now it was finally ready to present to Mama and Daddy. Elijah had done most of the writing because his handwriting was neater than mine but I'd added lots of drawings in the margins to make it look prettier. We called it the Family Agreement. We waited until both Mama and Daddy got home from work and were sitting in the living room having coffee. Then Elijah and I marched in together holding our document and looking very serious."We have something important to show you," I announced.Daddy put down his coffee cup. "What is it?"Elijah handed him the paper and I stood next to Mama so I could watch her face while she read it. They both looked at the document with very carefully controlled expressions like they were trying not to smile or laugh. Our Family Agreement had rules that we thought were very important:Rule 1: Mama and Daddy must eat d
