CHAPTER 147

~Blaze's POV~

The moment I stepped into the house that evening, I knew I didn’t want the night to end like the others had lately—wrapped in tension and half-finished conversations.

Kaia had been... distant. Not cold. Just elsewhere. Floating through our days like a ghost in the shell of the woman I’d fallen for.

But tonight, I wanted to bring her back. Not with questions. Not with pressure.

Just... with presence.

Dinner. Just the two of us. No distractions. No talk of contracts, family, or expectations. Just us.

I walked upstairs, leaned against the doorframe of our bedroom as she sat brushing her hair.

“What do you say to dinner out tonight?” I asked.

She blinked up at me, surprised. “Like... out out?”

I nodded. “Fancy restaurant. Good wine. Me trying to remember how to flirt.”

She gave a soft laugh—the first one in a while that didn’t sound forced.

“You’re serious?”

“Dead serious,” I said. “And no pressure. I just want to see you smile. Really smile.”

*************CHAPTER 151~Kaia’s POV~The sound of my sneakers hitting the treadmill filled my ears as I kept a steady pace, eyes forward, sweat slicking the back of my neck. The gym was mostly quiet, a few early risers in their zones, focused and breathless. It was my favorite time to be here—when the world hadn’t yet caught up and I could just be.No pressure. No contracts. No media headlines. Just me.The treadmill beside mine beeped to life. I barely glanced to the side until I heard his voice.“Didn’t peg you for a morning gym rat,” Kayne said, grinning as he stepped onto the treadmill, adjusting the speed settings with a casual flick of his fingers.I offered him a faint smile. “Didn’t peg you for someone who wakes up before noon.”He laughed, dark eyes twinkling as he matched my pace. “Touché. But I make exceptions for interesting company.”I arched a brow. “This isn’t a date, Kayne.”“Didn’t say it was. Just good cardio,” he replied, lips twitching in amusement. “But if you

*****************CHAPTER 150~Shyne’s POV~“Wait… you asked him to come over?” Crystal shot out, her voice laced with disbelief as she surged from the pool, water dripping from her like she'd been splashed with scandal.I blinked at her, entirely unfazed. “Umm… yeah. Was I wrong doing so?”She grabbed a towel from the lounger, wrapping it quickly around her waist like the presence of Kayne Kyle was more threatening than public indecency. “Not wrong, exactly... just risky. What if someone sees us—with him?”I tilted my head, amused. “Exactly why I invited him here. Private property. No cameras. No nosy socialites eavesdropping between champagne glasses.” I lowered my voice slightly. “Or would you prefer to be seen huddled in a booth with him at that God-awful café you like so much?”Crystal bit down on her thumbnail, eyes narrowing in thought. A pause. Then, with a slow nod, “Fair point.”I smirked. I usually had those. The doorbell rang.I straightened up and smoothed my satin lounge

*****************CHAPTER 149~Shyne’s POV~The engine purred to life under my palm, and I pulled out of the driveway of my house with a flick of my wrist and a smug grin playing on my lips. Traffic barely registered in my mind as my thoughts had become too loud. Kaia’s little secret was about to become my opportunity.Ten minutes later, I was outside Crystal’s house.Or rather, her palace. Crystal didn’t do average. Her white-walled villa was edged with sculpted hedges and a shimmering lap pool that practically begged for attention. I stepped out of my car, heels clicking against the tile, and walked up the front steps.“Crystal!” I called out playfully, letting my voice bounce through the front hallway as I stepped inside. “Oh, Crystal!”A moment passed before she peeked from the hallway, already dressed in a sleek black swimsuit that hugged every curve.“Right here, girl. She said with a grin. Finally!” Crystal exclaimed, striding forward to hug me.We embraced like the devious si

It’s... bigger than we thought.”The words landed like a cold slap across my chest.I stopped mid-step, turning to glance behind me. Kaia was still inside my office, sipping her coffee, oblivious. I reached out, pulling the glass door shut as quietly as I could, sealing her behind a layer of silence. Then I walked fast down the hallway, phone pressed tighter to my ear than necessary. “Wh… what do you mean by that?” I asked, my voice strained, thinner than I liked. I cleared my throat and straightened my shoulders. “What did you find?” I asked again, sharper now. There was a moment of static on the line. A hesitation. Then the investigator spoke. “Sir… this might be very difficult to explain.”“Try me,” I said, pushing past two employees. One offered a greeting, and I nodded stiffly, not breaking stride.“We’ve gone through everything,” he said. “Every hospital archive, child welfare system, foster home registry, s

****************CHAPTER 146~Kaia's POV~The drive was short, but my mind felt like it had traveled miles.Bethany had texted a location—a small restaurant tucked along the quieter side of Westview Road. I recognized it the moment I pulled into the lot. Warm lights spilled from inside, casting a soft glow through the wide front windows. A handwritten chalkboard menu sat propped up outside, and the faint scent of baked bread and roasted garlic hung in the air as I stepped out of the car.It was the kind of place you’d miss if you weren’t looking. Cozy. Familiar.I pushed through the glass door and was greeted with the subtle hum of soft jazz playing from a speaker overhead. The air inside was warmer, thick with the aroma of coffee and spice, the clink of cutlery blending with murmured conversations from scattered diners. Then I saw them—Bethany and Tiffany—tucked into a corner booth near the back, their heads tilted toward each other until Tiffany spotted me and waved with both hand
