Jeffery’s POV

Just before chaos strikes, there's a moment when everything slows down.

That's how walking into R.R. Conglomerate's New York headquarters was felt for the first time since delivering Edward's downfall to the board. Only this time, the tension wasn't just in the air and my bloodstream. Every step I took felt heavier like gravity had tripled.

The sleek marble floor stretched ahead like a warpath. My reflection in the glass elevator doors was a perfect lie: clean-cut suit, slicked-back hair, and calm green eyes. No one would've guessed I was carrying the truth of a black-ops project designed to cripple markets and erase people from history.

Project Argon wasn't just an illegal cover operation—it was a weapon.

And my father had built it using my name.

Now, he wanted me erased, too.

As I stepped into the elevator, the doors closed with a whisper. I tapped my foot once, twice. The ride was too smooth. Too clean.

And that's when I knew.

He was already watching.

  • Fool Me Once   On the Edge of Eternity

Cassie’s POV There was only blur and wind rushing past in mad disarray. My hand bit deep into the muscle of Jeffery's throat as he pulled me into his hard chest. His own wild heartbeat pounded in sync with mine, beat for beat. The wind screamed past us, and with it came the dawning understanding that this leap could be the beginning of it all—or the end of it. My own stomach dropped as gravity drew us down into darkness. The rigid body of Jeffery constricted around mine, each of his muscles under my grasping hands as unyielding as steel. Even at this horrible moment, I was achingly aware of him—rope-made muscle in the breadth of his shoulders, the heat of his body so entwining mine. Despite the danger, I was safe in his powerful arms, reassured by the conviction that I was safe with the one person who could save me, and that person was Jeffery. We fell hard, the only cushioning provided by the heap of trash stacked high in the alleyway below us. The bags of trash burst open when we

  • Fool Me Once   Trust No One

Cassie’s POVWith the moon's dim lights peeking through the leaves above, darkness engulfed us like a shroud as we ventured into the dense woodland. Jeffery's fingers closed firmly around mine, pulling seductively as his big body moved over the tangled underbrush with ease and without hesitation. The only solace amid our despair was the solid pressure of his broad shoulders and the comforting stretch of muscles beneath the ripped cloth.Fear and adrenaline hammered at my chest, causing me to pant and gasp with short, desperate breaths. The ruthless reminder of Edward's relentless pursuit was the screaming that cut through the atmosphere behind us. Friends and adversaries had the same face, and the world was suddenly suspicious. My conscience was plagued with mistrust following Andrew's death, which paralyzed my entire being. Jeffery was the only constant in the chaos, so I clung to him.Jeffery abruptly halted and quickly dragged me around behind the enormous fallen tree trunk. The en

  • Fool Me Once   Veiled Truths

Jeffery’s POVThe golden, warm, rolling firelight played over the cabin walls, illuminating the loveliness of Cassie's face as it lay nestled in the crook of my arms, asleep. Her head had settled into me, her body gently curved against mine, warm, comforting, and irresistibly appealing. The sweet, homey, warm scent of her hair was like a soft caress.I drew her into the firm, muscular contours of my own body, enjoying the feel of her lush curves pressed against mine. The soft murmur of satisfaction that spread across her face as she surrendered to the contact expanded my chest, filling it with a primeval need to protect this incredible woman. And as we hugged each other, night fell over us, unresolved secrets and broken truths hanging over our temporary home. The trust had been broken by Andrew's lies, and the oppressive silence was filled with unresolved questions to which neither of us was brave enough to speak out loud. Our sanctuary was fragile, fleeting, at best temporary, as his

  • Fool Me Once   Shadows of Deception

Cassie’s POVWe were hidden behind the old bridge, and the oppressive shroud of darkness surrounded us. Jeffrey's massive, taut form surrounded me, transferring his strength, comfort, protection, and body heat. For a brief time, I thought that we could remain this way forever, hidden from the chaos outside, as my body melded with his stiff body like a long-lost puzzle piece. But at its core, it was always rife with fear. We were never left alone by Edward and his crew. We would be stalked mercilessly until we were apprehended or until Edward's own unethical practices and deceit had been exposed. Jeffery's father appeared to be untouchable, wealthy, and ruthless. Nevertheless, we had a chance when we were placed together.I was enveloped in the firm hug of Jeffery around my middle, pulled in towards him into his chest, his pounding heartbeat and racing pulse against the side of my face. His tone was soft yet carried determination and compassion. "Cassie, I promise you—we're going to ge

  • Fool Me Once   The Eye of the Storm

Jeffery’s POVAs I was racing around, I could hear footsteps coming along the warehouse. Her entire body was pressed up against me, flushed against my firmness; even in peril, I could feel the electric charge. Her footsteps pounded out in double time with mine, her own hammering heartbeat throbbing against the hand I had placed over her.I looked down into her big, expressive eyes, which were fixed firmly in mine and gleamed with trust despite her apparent fear. Her lips parted almost imperceptibly in an open, welcoming line, with steely determination behind the little breaths. Every bodily shape, including the breast's rise and the hip's slim line, pressed against mine in a single, alluring fit."They're here," she breathed, tightening her hand around my armI nodded resolutely, jaw closing tightly, "Stay with me. You're safe here."Her eyes softened at once, emotions overflowing over finely carved features. "Jeffery, be cautious, please,"Her pleading silence constricted in anguish

  • Fool Me Once   Through the Flames

Jeffery’s POVMy chest burned with each wheezing breath, the adrenalin smoldering as we sped along at impossible velocities along the alleyway. Cassie's hand trembled in mine yet was firm and resolute. Our feet pounded earth to the same rhythm—accelerated yet unbroken, as though our own hearts pounded within us while the tumult behind us closed shut. The shadows on the ground were distorted by streetlights that twisted before my eyes. Each shadowed corner was danger, each sound amplified under the looming specter of impending calamity. I looked over my shoulder, my body covered in coarse, tattered material. My pounding heart was filled with the sound of people moving along the dark alleys, their unbalanced footfalls, and subdued sounds closing the gaps between us."They're closing in on us," breathed Cassie, her rough, resolute tone barely over her own ragged breaths. Her wide, pursed lips separated, and short, shallow puffs of air burst past them. Despite what was happening, somethin
