AVA

“Is it true?” Fallon, one of my friends and classmates asked, falling into steps beside me as we made our way to class.

“I heard. Everyone is talking about it.” Our other friend, Avery interjects, joining the conversation.

“Really? Words travel fast around here.” I sighed, feigning innocence, like that isn’t exactly the effect I was hoping for.

We were about to enter the classroom, same time as Maddie. One would think she would pause for us to walk through, seeing that we got to the entra

  • For Better, For Honour   Chapter 41

AVA I wake up the following morning with questions still nagging at me as I got ready for school. What’s the deal between Cade and a member of the Xaviers gang everyone believes was dead? It isn’t impossible to think Cade framed them on purpose when he ran away. Having the two rival members with an established beef going at each other’s throat. And now!? He’s probably helping them plot revenge on the family. Emerging from the bathroom some minutes later, I reach for my phone, knowing I have to warn the family ahead of whatever Cade is planning. But what if he’s monitoring my phone’s activities? That explains why he always knew when Asher called me and vice versa. No, I can’t risk him listening to my phone call or whatever. I look around the room, thinking hard on what to do. The idea finally lands in my brain a few minutes later. I get dress in a hurry, draping my bag over my shoulder, I pick my note and exit the bedroom. Rosita appears at the bottom of the stairs just as I reac

  • For Better, For Honour   Chapter 40

AVA My eyes open at the gentle knock on the door. I turn to look at it without moving my body. I pause, hoping whoever is on the other side will go away if I don’t respond. “Mrs Demir?” Rosita calls, knocking on the door again. “Come in,” I sat up. On my command, she steps into the room, leaving the door ajar. “Ma’am, you haven’t left your room since last night, we are all worried about you. Would you like me to set up brunch downstairs or bring it up here? It’s a lovely day today, Diane and I could help you set it up on the balcony.” “How thoughtful, but I’m not hungry.” I lower myself back on the bed, facing the other day. “And please, don’t forget to shut the door on your way out.” “Of course, ma’am.” Hearing the door closed, I let out a deep sigh, shutting back my eyes. Although I haven’t been able to go back to sleep since I woke up this morning. I also don’t know what type it is until after Rosita mentioned brunch. Safe to assume it’s noon. Suddenly, the door flings op

  • For Better, For Honour   Chapter 39

AVA The second Cade goes still again, I immediately reach to place his head back on the coffee table, feeling like I could breathe properly again. With his head facing me, I take out one tablet, applying pressure on his cheeks to open his mouth. When his mouth cracks slightly open, I pause realizing it isn’t a wise decision to give someone medicine without water while they are passed out. Letting out a frustrating sigh, I got up from the floor, taking the leftover dishes back downstairs with me. The kitchen is empty when I walk in, I simply dump the plate into the sink, take out another glass cup and pour some water in it. I stroll back upstairs, finding Cade exactly where I left him. Settling down on the floor next to him once more, I force his mouth open. Pouring a small amount of water in his mouth, I immediately drop the tablets in before he swallows the water first without the drugs. He stirs, gulping down the content in his mouth. Finally! I place the glass on the coffee ta

  • For Better, For Honour   Chapter 38

AVA Skipping over the pile of junk on the floor, I stroll out of the room, making my way towards the kitchen. “Rosita?” I called, appearing at the doorway. “Yes, Mrs. Demir?” She answers, wiping her hands off. The poor girl was probably sick of me bothering her. “I’m having trouble sleeping lately, so I’m wondering if you have any idea where I can get my hands on some, y’know… sleeping pills?” I blink innocently at her. There’s a pause from her end. “Oh? I think Miss Diane has some, I’ll help you get it.” She responded, leaving to do exactly that. I signal towards the other maid. “Could you please dish out a new set of food and arrange them on a tray. Also, where is Arrow's room located?”“The men's quarters are located in the garage, I can ask someone to take you there, Ma’am.” “No, don’t bother, simple directions will be fine.” “Take the elevator down to the garage, you won’t miss it. It’s the mental door by your right, the left one is the auto-shop. You're more likely to

  • For Better, For Honour   Chapter 37

AVA I drag in a shaky breath as the elevator slides open, revealing Cade on the other side. With his arms folded across his chest, legs braced apart, he stared on.I dart a look in Arrow’s direction, wondering if he told him about who I met up with, despite begging him not to. Although it was no surprise if he did, I didn’t expect his loyalty to be with me instead of his boss. From how they interact with each other, I almost want to believe they share a close friendship but I know Cade isn’t capable of anything of sort. The closer I get to where he stands, the slower my steps become. “Boss—“ “With me, now.” He hiss, turn and walks away. Arrow hands me the package, going after Cade. I stand there, watching until they both disappears from my view. Only then did I let out a puff of air fill with relief. “Rosita?” I called, walking into the kitchen. She appears a few seconds later. “Mrs Demir, is there anything I can help you with? Lunch? Snacks?” “No, I just wanted to give you th

  • For Better, For Honour   Chapter 36

AVA Dropping the glass of water, I sit down. This time, with no presence or sign of Cade, I eat my meal enthusiastically. Rosita comes out of the kitchen just as I finish eating, her right cue to always enter a room makes me wonder if she has been watching and waiting for me the entire time. She approaches me with a piece of paper, I take it from her knowingly. Even though Cade had been the one to destroy the cellphone, I couldn’t ask him. He made it entirely clear that he wants me to stay away from me, which works with him. Once he finishes taking his drugs, I’ll do my best to abide by those rules. I took the liquid medication, realizing he didn’t take it. Well, some other time. At least I was able to get him to use that tablet, that counts as a win in my book. I return upstairs, poking my head into the room to make sure it’s empty before letting the rest of my body in. After putting the medications in the nightstand drawers, I sat down and dial what I’m guessing is Arrow’s ro
