LOGINKaylee pov My body is hot, and it aches in places I didn't think it was possible to ache. It's all too hot under my blanket when I toss it off me before placing my feet on the cold floor. It's still dark outside, and I don't think I've slept much since the last time I was up and thought I saw him standing outside the window on the other side in the dark alley. I had to stay there for a long time, waiting for him to walk out of his hiding, but he didn't, and at one point I had to give up and go to bed. I probably imagined I saw him, that's the only logical reason. Heading over to the bathroom, I do my business and wash up. Looking into the mirror, I see droplets of sweat on my forehead. Washing my face with some water, I try to remember if I had a nightmare, but I can't recall if I did. It would explain why I was this hot, but there are a lot of strange things going on lately. My body aches, and I've got some swelling around my ankles. Looking at my stomach, it looks even bigger
Liz pov Looking around us, I try to trace the scent, but I can't find it again. I turn my head to look at my mate where he stands. "I have to try and find the scent, I need to see who it belongs to," my mate mind links me while I look around us. Try to find the smallest trace but there isn't anything. "I can't sense anything," I mind link him back while taking a soundless step to the side. "I'm afraid I recognized it from somewhere, and if I'm right, then it's nothing good. Head back and make sure everyone is safe," he mind links me. I see him being ready to shift. I'm not going to let him search by himself, I'm going with him. "No, Heidi will handle it. I'm coming with you." I mind link and shift, sniffing in the air. "They had to leave for a bit, both of them," he mind links when I halt in my step. "Leave?? Where? When?" I mind link him while my wolf turns to look at him. This is all new to me, and they left without telling me? "Yes, they needed to meet up with a person
Liz pov Walking out of the building, I'm pissed, or to be fair, I'm beyond pissed. How could she keep this as a secret from me during all years? Doesn't our friendship mean anything to her? I let my wolf take over, she's as furious as I am with the fact Heidi has been hiding this from us for all these years and I know before my wolf even starts to run where she's going. There is only one place that we can release some anger and make it feel a little bit better. Shredding the clothes, I let my wolf shift when she takes off to the shortest way into the woods, just behind the large fabric at the outskirts of the city. Reaching the treeline quickly, I let my wolf run freely and the run doesn't take long. Stopping by the bushes to listen if anyone is near by before walking through them. This dark and hidden spot is the best place Heidi ever could have chosen, but I don't think if she knew I had found this place and what I'm doing here, it would be a positive thing for me. She wou
Heidi povI wish I could tell him, but not today. "I can't reveal it yet, I promise you will know before I'm checking out. Should there be any problem, you can contact that person I gave you the number to. You will have all the information you need." I tell him, and he gives me a nod."I'm honored for you trusting in me, I will do whatever it takes to keep her safe," he says, and I give him a smile. I know he will, there is no doubt. "I have to go for a bit, you need to handle everything tonight." I tell him while he looks intensely at me. "What information is it that you need?" He asks, and I'm surprised he has figured out that's why I have to leave. "I know there is a story behind what has happened to Aron, and I need to find some answers. Both for Kaylee's sake and everyone around her," I explain while he sits calmly in his seat. "I've already taken care of that," he says, and I'm surprised while he simply flashes me a smile. "I knew there was more to his story back there, he
Heidi pov I knew this was going to happen. I have known Liz for so long I knew she was going to react this way. I can understand her, but it's another reason why I haven't told her about it before. I knew none of them were going to see it from my point of view if I didn't tell them the whole truth, and that's something I have to take with me into the grave. I have to keep my daughter safe after I'm gone as well, and her life depends on me hiding the truth from everyone. "This has nothing to do with you, Liz. I trust you with my life and my daughter's. But for everyone's sake I'm forced to keep this to myself. I just want to know you will be there for Kaylee and my daughter once I'm gone?" I tell her, knowing she will have to take her time and calm down before I'm able to speak to her again about this. "If you truly knew me, you would never have to ask me that! I have done nothing to make you feel like you can't trust me," she snaps while I see her arms get coated in fur. I know h
Liz pov Looking at Heidi like she has grown two heads all of a sudden, I don't know where to even start with all the thoughts and emotions I have with this new knowledge. I have known her for years, and not once has she even mentioned a man, let alone a mate on top of it. I can't sort my thoughts, and everything wants to come out at once when I feel my mate trying to contact me through mind link. "Not now, I'm fine." I open the link, telling him it quickly, and shut the link before he even gets a chance to speak. Holding my walls tighter around me, I can't let them fall, or he will feel my emotions, and then he won't give up until he gets the information out of me, and right now I can't let him know. "You have to explain, I don't get it. I've known you for years Heidi and not once have you mentioned a single thing about a mate. " I say, looking at her where she stands by the window. Her posture is cut off, but I see small changes in her face, and I know she is sad about it. Who
Heidi pov I know I need to look further into her, and once Frederic has walked up the stairs with her, I head over to the kitchen, hearing Liz walk after me. I know she has tons of questions right now, and she doesn't wait until we are inside before she starts. "Where did you find her, where doe
Kaylee pov I hear Liz walk around the car when she comes to stop beside us. "Oh, I'm fine. Just not used to traveling in a car," I say to Heidi, trying to sound convincing. I haven't been in a car more than a handful of times, but I have no problem going in one. "Where have you been hiding all
Heidi pov They all look at me in silence for a moment, and I know Aliza understands it all. She has lived too many years as a rogue to know the dangers we are facing and who we need to stay far away from. "No, Heidi," she says when I just look at her. Fear and worry are written all over her face
Kaylee pov I can tell by the hand over my mouth and the other that is wrapped around my shoulders, it is a woman and not a man. I feel calmer and hope it's the woman who found me before when she turns me around and gestures to me to keep silent. When I see it's her, I let out the breath I was ho
