Chapter 2

Author: Frosty
Hayden did not expect Sylvie to come back so soon.

He was always the dominant one in this relationship, so he did not hold back and calmly told her his decision. "What's wrong with us not getting married?"

Seeing the casual expression on his face, Sylvie thought he was just angry, as usual. She did not take it seriously and took off her coat, answering icily, "You were the one insisting on getting married, and now you're saying you don't want to anymore. What are you doing now?"

Looking at the group of models standing around in the room in the dresses, Sylvie carelessly pointed. "Let's go with that one."

Hayden looked in the direction she pointed and saw the wedding dress. It was her favorite one from the video they watched yesterday.

Although he was a little surprised, he did not think much of it. He just glanced at her. "What did you do today?"

Sylvie lied calmly, her expression unchanged. "I was busy with work.

“Don't worry. I won't forget to keep my promise of sleeping with you every day."

Then, she began to take off her undergarments to go to the bedroom with him.

Uncharacteristically, Hayden pushed her away. "We don't need to do it for a while. You should sleep in the guest room."

Sylvie's hand paused, disbelief flickering in her eyes as if she were meeting him for the first time. "Didn't you used to pester me all the time, begging to sleep with me?"

Hayden offered a self-deprecating smile. "Didn't you always say you can't force someone to love you?"

Sylvie's gaze deepened. After a moment, she put on her clothes. "Suit yourself."

With that, she headed upstairs without hesitation and disappeared into the guest room.

The next day, Hayden woke up quite early.

A housekeeper brought him coffee and mentioned Sylvie's whereabouts. "Ms. Scott went out to work out first thing this morning. Would you like to wait for her to have breakfast together?"

Hayden shook his head. "I'm heading out shortly. I won't wait for her."

Hayden drove off after breakfast. After finishing the paperwork for his permanent residency in Areland, he found an open-air café with a panoramic view and enjoyed the scenery from the upper floor.

After spending some time on his phone, Hayden looked up and saw Sylvie.

She was being led by Joshua into a collectibles store below.

Joshua picked out two figurines from the display window, while Sylvie asked the staff to bring out the most expensive item in the entire store.

Upon seeing the black card in Sylvie's hand, the staff immediately retrieved a limited-edition figurine from the back, which was entirely different from anything on display in the storefront.

As expected of childhood sweethearts, she remembered his interests perfectly.

Hayden stared at the two of them, not taking his eyes off them.

When Joshua's collar was askew, Sylvie would tiptoe to fix it.

When he said he wanted to try her coffee, she handed it to him without a second thought and let him take a sip.

When he marveled at the new luxury cars in the showroom, she took him inside to pick one.

Watching them stroll around like a young couple on a date, Hayden felt as though he were seeing the real Sylvie for the very first time.

It turned out that when she was with someone she loved, she did not wear the icy expression he knew so well. Instead, she would laugh, crack jokes, and watch the other person's antics with affection.

She would not keep people at a distance or act indifferent to everything. Rather, she remembered the other person's tastes and preferences, even helping him coordinate his outfits.

She never said anything to kill the mood. No matter what they talked about, she would quickly find a way to keep the conversation going, never letting it die.

Around Joshua, she shed the cold facade she usually wore and became herself—the vibrant Sylvie, full of life and capable of loving with all her heart.

This was the authentic, lively version of Sylvie that Hayden had never seen before.

He finally understood that the gulf between love and indifference was as vast as a galaxy, and no amount of money could bridge it.

In the hospital corridor, the glaring red operating-theater light glowed. Sally slapped Sylvie across the face, her voice trembling. "You monster! That's Joshua! Joshua, who grew up with you! How could you say such things to provoke him?"Sylvie did not dodge. Blood seeped from the corner of her mouth. Her eyes were vacant, mumbling to herself, "I didn't mean for him to die...""What's the use of saying that now?" Flora suddenly lunged at her and began to beat her, her sharp nails leaving scratches all over her. "If anything happens to my son, I'll make you pay for it!"The operation light went out.The doctor pushed the door open and stepped out, his face grave as he sighed slightly. "Sorry. We did our best. Our condolences. "The corridor fell silent at those words. Then, Flora began wailing.Sally staggered back a step, while Sylvie suddenly burst into laughter. The laughter grew louder and finally turned into a hysterical fit of laughter. "Karma! This is all karma... We we

Online public opinion was originally overwhelmingly critical of Hayden, but it reversed overnight. The evidence Liam released was like a grenade, shattering Joshua's carefully crafted image of a victim.Chat records, surveillance videos, and even hospital diagnosis certificates showed that Joshua's so-called suicides were carefully designed. The most damning voice recording was of Joshua smugly boasting to his friends on the eve of Sylvie and Hayden's wedding."That fool Sylvie! All I have to do is pretend I'm going to jump off a building, and she'll do whatever I say. I even managed to stop her from going to the wedding to Hayden for me. So what if he's her official boyfriend? He still can't compare to me."The insults suddenly turned on Joshua, with everyone piling on him at once.Sylvie was just stepping out of the airport when she received the news.A call from her assistant interrupted her as she was heading to collect her luggage. "Ms. Scott, this is terrible! Mr. Gillman

"You didn't have any evidence either, but you still firmly believed that I bullied Joshua, didn't you?"Hayden’s emotionless words left Sylvie frozen in place. The man in her memory, who always smiled gently at her, now wore an unfamiliar, distant look.Hayden supported Jasmine, lowering his gaze at the trembling Sylvie. "Why are you always so self-righteous? You protected Joshua without any reason before, and you accused me of being vicious when I did nothing. “You simply brushed aside the harm you caused me and said he was still young. I think I made myself clear enough yesterday. Sylvie, who is it that keeps pestering me and making a fuss non-stop?"Sylvie's eyes were red as she opened her mouth to say something, but Hayden was not looking at her. He supported Jasmine back to the mansion and closed the door with a thud.Once they were away from the view of outsiders, Hayden indifferently pushed Jasmine away from him. "Jasmine, who asked you to do all that?” His voice grew c

The moon hung high in the sky. Sylvie followed Hayden and Jasmine, eventually parking her car at the entrance of the Simpson villa. She watched Jasmine help Hayden enter the mansion and not come out for a long time. Seeing the mansion brightly lit inside, she did not dare go up and ring the doorbell. The curtains in the master bedroom upstairs were drawn, and she could vaguely see two figures moving inside. Soon, the lights went out, and the mansion fell into a silent darkness.Sylvie's hand, hanging at her side, tightened, her sharp nails piercing her palm. She did not even feel the pain. She pondered, 'Who is that woman? She has nothing in common with Amelia. Why did Hayden allow her to stay by his side?'Sylvie thought she most resembled Amelia. As long as she could stay by Hayden's side and as long as he could change his mind, she would do anything he asked. Her thoughts were in a complete mess. Her eyes were red, but she dared not approach the mansion. She seemed to have l

"Joshua kept threatening suicide. If I didn't pretend to agree with him, it would have been a life lost... Besides, my family members have always... “Anyway, Hayden, come back with me. This time, I'll ignore them. You're the one I love. I have to be with you. They’ll understand eventually!"The cool night breeze carried Sylvie's words straight to Hayden, sobering him up almost instantly. He looked at the panicked Sylvie in front of him and smiled sarcastically. "Sylvie, you knew all along, didn’t you?"His voice was light, but his words cut like a knife. "Joshua faked those suicide threats."Sylvie's pupils contracted suddenly, and her lips trembled. "I... No, he... He really...""That came later." Hayden interrupted her, his gaze clear and cold. "You kept enabling him again and again, and that is what made him more and more twisted."He straightened his windblown clothes, his voice frighteningly calm. "Just like how you knew I was using you as a substitute, yet you still chose

Business receptions abroad were much the same as back home, filled with people in elegant outfits, clinking glasses, and flowing drinks.Hayden held a bottle of champagne and stood in the corner, watching the unfamiliar faces. No one here knew his past. They only knew that he was the sole heir of Simpson Group. Everyone's gaze toward him contained only respect. No one looked at him with pity or nosiness."Mr. Simpson." Jasmine appeared beside him at some point, holding a cup of water. "Don't drink so much liquor."Her fingertips felt cold as they removed the glass from his hand."Why don't you mingle with the others?""My job is to follow you." She replied as if it were the most natural thing. "Of course, I will follow you wherever you go."Hayden's eyes crinkled slightly. "No need. You can leave work early today."Jasmine looked straight at him and suddenly asked, "Can I ask you a question?""Go ahead.""Do you regret coming to Areland?"Hayden froze. For a moment, he did n
