CHAPTER 49

EZRA

I woke up to silence. No birds, no Genevieve knocking on my door, no buzzing notifications.

Just the soft gray light creeping through my curtains.

I turned to my bedside clock. 6:00 a.m.

“Happy birthday, Mom,” I whispered. My voice cracked halfway through.

I stared at the ceiling for a long time. Normally, I’d at least cry on this day. But today, I felt… nothing.

Not peaceful. Not healed. Just numb.

Like something in me had switched off overnight.

By the time choir practice came around that afternoon, I’d convinced myself to just go through the motions. Sing. Nod. Leave.

Genevieve had stopped me in the hallway, pressed her hand to my cheek like she used to when I was a kid, and said, “Your mother would be proud, Ezra. Don’t let your grief drown your light.”

I smiled politely, mumbled a thank you, and kept walking.

Inside the choir hall, Lily waved when she saw me. Jordan gave me one of her quiet nods from the corner.

I stood in front of the choir. The piano was warm under my fingers. Music always helped me breathe.

“Alright,” I said, clapping my hands lightly. “Page thirty-four. From the top.”

Voices rose. The room filled with melody. For a brief second, the numbness cracked, and I felt something stir in my chest. Not joy. But something close enough to hold on to.

And then Nico walked in.

Like a shadow sliding through sunlight.

His slicked-back hair. That too-clean smile. The way he always scanned me like he was peeling away layers.

He leaned against the doorway and just… watched.

The choir finished the verse, and I took a breath to correct the altos when he stepped forward.

“You have a natural gift,” Nico said loudly. His voice dripped with charm that felt fake. “Your voice commands the room. It’s… intoxicating.”

Several people turned their heads. A few giggled awkwardly.

I forced a tight smile. “Thank you, Father Nico. Let’s continue—”

“And the way you lead them.” He stepped closer. “Strong. But gentle. Very rare for someone so young.”

The room went still. His hand landed on my shoulder. Again.

That same disgusting, claiming touch.

I froze.

“Father, we’re in the middle of practice,” I said softly.

He leaned in just enough that only I could hear. “I know. That’s what makes it fun.”

Something in me snapped.

“Get your hand off me,” I said. Out loud. Clear. Sharp.

The entire room went quiet.

Lily’s eyes widened. Jordan’s brow shot up. A soprano gasped.

Nico blinked, looking surprised for half a second before smiling. “Oh, Ezra, no need to be dramatic—”

“I said,” my voice rose, shaking now with anger I didn’t know I had, “get your hand off me.”

He lifted his hand slowly, like he was humoring me. “Apologies,” he said smoothly. “Didn’t mean to upset our little star.”

I saw red.

I slammed the music sheet shut and stormed out of the room.

The hallway was cold. My shoes echoed against the tiles as I walked fast, almost running. My chest burned. My hands shook.

“Ezra!”

I froze.

His voice. Deep. Commanding.

Father Dorian.

I kept walking.

“Ezra,” he called again, footsteps behind me now.

And then his hand caught my wrist. Firm. Unyielding. He pulled me into one of the side corridors, the kind people rarely used.

The second the door shut, he wrapped his arms around me.

I stiffened. “Father—”

“Stop,” he said quietly. “Breathe.”

His chest was solid against my cheek. His hands pressed against my back like he was holding me together.

And that’s when everything broke.

I started crying. Loud, messy, ugly crying. The kind that rips out of you because you’ve held it in too long.

“I—We—” I choked, trying to pull away. “We sinned. I can’t—I can’t let you—”

He didn’t let go.

“Ezra,” he said firmly. “Look at me.”

I shook my head.

“Ezra,” his voice hardened. “Look. At. Me.”

I lifted my tear-streaked face.

His eyes were dark and intense. “You are not dirty,” he said slowly. “You are not broken. And you are not alone.”

“But we—” I hiccuped. “We did… that. And today’s my mom’s birthday and I—how could I—”

My knees buckled, but he caught me.

“You’re human,” he said. “You’re allowed to feel. To want. To hurt. None of this makes you less of the person your mother loved.”

I sobbed harder, pressing my forehead against his chest. “I hate this.”

“I know,” he murmured.

“I hate him,” I whispered.

“Nico?”

I nodded.

“I do too,” he said darkly. “But he doesn’t get to own a single part of you. You hear me?”

I nodded again, shakily.

He squeezed me tighter. “You’re stronger than you think.”

Something warm spread through me—not lust. Not guilt. Just… something steady. Safe.

For once, I didn’t push him away.

When we finally walked back toward the choir hall, my eyes were puffy, but my chest felt lighter. Lily was waiting outside like an anxious mother hen.

She looked at me, then at Dorian behind me, then back at me.

“You good?” she asked softly.

I wiped my face. “Yeah. I think so.”

Jordan peeked from inside the room and gave a small nod like she approved of whatever had just happened.

Nico was nowhere to be seen.

Good.

CHAPTER 65DORIANI tried calling Ezra three times. No answer. He had replied to my message earlier — short, distant, polite. “Yeah. Just got in. Tired.”Tired. That was all he’d said. Nothing else. No teasing. No warmth. Now I was pacing my study like a restless animal. The rain outside had stopped hours ago, but the air still smelled like thunder. My jaw ached from clenching. He wasn’t ignoring me, was he?No… he wouldn’t.Unless Genevieve—A sharp ring sliced through my thoughts. I glanced at the phone on the table, the screen flashing a name I hadn’t seen in months.Adrian Cross.I stared at it for a full five seconds before I picked up. “Adrian.”“Father Dorian,” came that low, velvety drawl that always sounded like mockery. “Or should I say… ex-lawyer Dorian Vale?”My grip tightened around the phone. “What do you want?”A soft chuckle. “Straight to business, as usual. You never change.”“Adrian,” I warned. “I asked what you want.”He sighed dramatically. “Relax. I just wanted to

CHAPTER 64EZRAThe ride home was wild. Everyone was still running on leftover adrenaline from the win — singing off-key, cracking jokes, replaying videos from the performance. Dorian even smiled a few times, which was rare enough to make Lily whisper, “Did you see that? He smiled. Write it down. It’s a miracle.”By the time we got back to town, it was almost sunset. The moment the bus parked in front of the church, chaos broke loose. People were dragging bags, hugging each other, shouting “See you tomorrow!” like we hadn’t all just spent a week breathing the same air.I mumbled a quick “Bye,” to Lily and Jordan, clutching my backpack like a zombie. I hadn’t slept properly in days. My bones were humming with exhaustion. The moment I got home, I dropped my bag by the door, kicked off my shoes, and face-planted into bed.Sleep hit hard.I didn’t know how long I was out before the sound of my door opening made me groan. “If that’s Lily, I swear—”“Ezra.”My eyes snapped open. Not Lily.G

We’d done our part. But standing there, waiting for results with forty voices breathing the same nervous air, it felt like every heartbeat could break me.The stage lights were blinding again. Ten choirs lined up side by side, matching uniforms, anxious smiles, and too many whispered prayers to count.Jordan leaned toward me, muttering under her breath. “If we don’t make it, I’m switching to hip-hop.”Lily nudged her. “If we don’t make it, you’re joining me in therapy.”Ryan groaned. “I’ll just move to a forest. Live off berries.”I tried to laugh, but my throat was too dry.Genevieve stood ahead of us, hands clasped neatly. She looked composed—like this was any other day—but I saw her tapping her index finger softly against her palm. That was her version of panic.Dorian was to the side, his arms crossed, eyes fixed on the judges’ table. Even from here, I could tell his jaw was tight. The announcer came

My hand hurt. My heart hurt more. But it was done.I exhaled shakily and leaned back against the headboard. For a second, I just stared at it—my song. The one we’d sing tomorrow. The one that, hopefully, wouldn’t get us laughed off stage.A soft knock.I turned, already knowing who it was.“Come in,” I said quietly. The door opened, and Father Dorian stepped in, still wearing his black shirt. His collar was slightly undone, sleeves rolled up, looking unfairly human for someone supposed to be holy.“You’re still awake,” he said, voice low.I rubbed my eyes. “Barely.”He walked closer, hands in his pockets. “Genevieve told me to leave you alone earlier,” he said, stopping near the bed, “but it’s almost midnight.”“Yeah.” I looked down at my notebook. “I finished it.”His brows lifted. “Can I

CHAPTER 61EZRA“St. Maria's Parish!”The auditorium exploded in cheers. Lily screamed so loud I think I lost part of my hearing. Jordan threw her arms around Ryan, both of them yelling, “WE DID IT!” while Genevieve smiled—just slightly—but that tiny smile was worth a thousand confetti cannons.I turned to look at Dorian. He wasn’t smiling. Not exactly. But his eyes—warm and proud—found mine, and that was enough to make my stomach flip.“We made it?” Lily gasped, looking around like she needed confirmation.Jordan snorted. “Yes, unless they meant another St. Maria's.”Ryan raised his hands. “Fifth place, baby! We’re in the finals!”Genevieve clapped her gloved hands once—elegant, controlled. “Excellent work, everyone. A commendable performance.”The MC walked back to the stage, voice booming again.“Congratulations to our top five! But before you all run off to celebrate, it’s time for a special announcement.”Everyone fell silent. The air felt… loaded.“The final round,” he said dram

EZRA “Practice,” I gasped, arching up. “Lots of… practice with you.” He chuckled, starting a slow, deep rhythm—nothing like the frantic pounding from before. This was deliberate. Intimate. Every thrust dragged over my prostate, making me whimper into his mouth. “Like that?” he whispered, kissing along my jaw. “Slow and deep? Or you want it hard again?” “Both,” I whined. He nipped my earlobe. “You feel so good wrapped around me. So hot. So wet from my cum. Like you were made for this—for me.” I moaned, clenching around him. “Dorian—” Then he pulled out—slowly—and I whined at the loss, but he was already moving, sliding up my body until his cock hovered over my lips. “Open,” he said, voice rough. “Want that mouth again.” I obeyed instantly, tongue out, eager. He fed me his cock—slick with my ass and his cum—and I sucked him deep, hollowing my cheeks. “Fuck—just like that,” he groaned, hips rocking gently. “Take it all. Show me how much you love Daddy’s dick.” I moaned around
