Chapter 4

作者: Cher
“We have to leave.”

The moment I stepped into the living room, I heard Catherine’s voice.

She was standing by the fireplace, clutching a thick stack of documents. “I’ve contacted some old friends. The Monroe family still has a few remaining assets in Europe. If we sell them off, it’ll be enough for the four of us to start over.”

“No.” I cut her off.

Everyone turned to look at me. Then, they surrounded me with anxious expectation, as if hoping I had brought back some kind of miracle.

“Isabella?” Blair frowned. “You met the Godfather. What did he say?”

“Who exactly is his true love?” Catherine asked urgently.

I sat down on the sofa. My mind was still replaying every detail from the apartment earlier. The sense of discordance was overwhelming. Something didn’t add up. However, I wasn’t certain yet, and until I was, I couldn’t drag them into it.

“He said I’m his true love,” I said, forcing my voice to stay calm.

“If so, why are you hesitating?” Chloe burst out. “Run! You married him in your last life and still died!”

“We can’t run.” I shook my head. “The Costello family’s influence spans all of North America. Where do you think we can go?”

“Canada, Mexico, Europe—anywhere!” Blair screamed, her voice tipping into hysteria. “Anything is better than staying here and waiting for our deathbeds!”

Catherine set the documents aside, her expression heavy. “Isabella, what are you trying to say?”

I took a deep breath and said the decision out loud. Even I thought it sounded insane.

“I’m going to marry him.”

The living room fell silent.

Three seconds later, Blair jumped to her feet. “Are you insane? Has he brainwashed you?”

“Isabella, calm down.” Catherine walked over and tried to grab my hand. “I know you had a past with the Godfather, but you can’t be so reckless anymore.”

On the table lay that expensive diamond signet ring—the symbol of power of the Costello mafia family. Blair wore it and was thrown into the river to drown. Chloe wore it and died in a car crash, her body unrecognizable. Catherine wore it and had her face slashed before being thrown into a dungeon to die.

And me?

Chloe’s voice rang sharply in my ears. “Did you forget how you died the last time? You were covered in blood, stabbed so many times your wedding dress was soaked through!”

Of course, I hadn’t forgotten the agony of the hunting knife piercing my chest, the warmth of blood spreading through white fabric, and the madness burning in his eyes.

“You’re not her.”

Those words had echoed in my mind countless times.

“I have a plan.” I stood up and walked toward the coffee table, toward the ring.

“What plan?” Blair demanded. “At least explain it!”

I didn’t answer. Some things couldn’t be said until I was absolutely sure.

“Isabella!” Catherine’s voice sharpened. “We’re family. Whatever it is, we should discuss it together!”

After my father died, the four of us fought viciously over the inheritance. Catherine tried to drive me out of the house. Blair targeted me at every turn. Chloe schemed behind my back for even the smallest scraps of property. Yet, none of them had truly wanted me dead. On the contrary, the one I had loved did.

That slow, terrifying sensation of life draining away had filled me with despair so deep that even the three women who despised me couldn’t bear to look at my corpse. Now, we had a common enemy, and for once, we were standing on the same side.

“You want to know my plan?” I turned to face them. “It’s simple. I need to personally confirm one thing.”

“Confirm what?”

“The truth behind all of this.”

I picked up the diamond signet ring. The cold metal weighed heavily in my palm. The eagle crest on its face glinted under the lights, impossible to tell whether it symbolized salvation or disaster.

“Isabella, please think this through,” Chloe sobbed, tears streaming down her face. “We can escape together. Even if life is hard, it’s better than being stabbed to death!”

“I already said it,” I replied. “We can’t escape.”

I slowly slid the ring onto my ring finger. It fit perfectly, as if it had been custom-made for me.

The moment the cold metal touched my skin, a shiver ran through my body. This ring had once been everything I dreamed of—wealth, power, and love. Now, it felt like a shackle forged from death itself.

Blair tried to speak again, but Catherine stopped her. Catherine stared at me for a long time, complicated emotions flashing through her eyes.

“Are you sure?” she asked. “Do you realize you might be stabbed and sent back in a coffin? Last time, we couldn’t even bring ourselves to look at your body.”

“I’m sure.”

“Are you really the woman he loves?” she asked. “Who treats his true love like that?”

Seeing the fear and worry on their faces, I finally decided to give them something.

“When I met the Godfather last night,” I said, “he touched my right hand. In that moment, I realized who his true love is.”

“This person is indeed one of the four of us,” I continued slowly. “But the truth is… unbelievable.”

“Who is it?” all three of them asked at once.

“The woman the Godfather wants to marry,” I said, “is me.”

They still didn’t believe it, yet there was nothing they could do.

I looked at them and said quietly, firmly, “This is the only way all of us survive.”

  • Four Deaths Later, Who Is She?   Chapter 10

“No… This can’t be…”I collapsed onto the floor, feeling as though my heart had been torn into pieces. Dante was really dead. The man who had once gently traced the scars on my body and promised to protect me for the rest of my life was gone forever. I closed my eyes, unable to stop the tears from spilling over. Just then, Blair steadied me. She exchanged a look with Catherine and Chloe. The three of them shared a complicated, unspoken understanding.“Isabella,” Catherine suddenly said, her voice hesitant. “There are some things we need to tell you.”“About what?” I lifted my head and looked at them.“About Dante,” Blair said, taking a deep breath. “There’s something we never told you.”“What do you mean?”“Dante… wasn’t only your lover,” Chloe said quietly. My mind went blank, a loud buzzing filling my ears.“What are you talking about?”“Why else do you think the three of us tried so hard to marry him in those past lives?” Catherine said slowly, pulling a letter from her b

“That’s impossible!” Chloe exclaimed. “His appearance, his voice, and even his habits are exactly the same!”“Yeah,” Blair said in disbelief. “Even his cologne smells identical. There’s no way we could’ve mistaken him.”“At first, I wasn’t completely sure either,” I added awkwardly.“What do you mean?”“When Dante and I were dating, he knew I had a scar on my left wrist. Every time we were close, he would unconsciously touch it. But when I met him before the wedding, he reached for my right hand instead. That’s when something felt wrong.”I raised my left hand. Beneath my sleeve, a thin white scar was faintly visible.Seeing the suspicion on their faces, I quickly continued, “That alone might’ve been too hasty. What really confirmed it was later, when I tied him up.”“He asked me whether I wanted money or power, but the real Dante had transferred his assets to me. A man who had decided to give me everything he owned would never ask me that question.”He had handed over all his

“How did you get here?” I asked, my voice trembling, utterly shocked.Chloe spoke up, worried. “How could we leave you here alone? That psycho Godfather has killed each of us before! He was acting so strange tonight. We couldn’t possibly stay calm. What if this is the night he takes your life?”Looking at the three of them, a warmth I’d never felt before surged through me. Tears welled up in my eyes.Catherine, noticing our expressions, looked a little awkward. “We’re just temporary allies, helping each other out. After this, I’ll still make the nanny cook the dishes you don’t like.”I couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle. All three of them blushed slightly, and I decided to change the subject. “I’m still curious… How exactly did you get in?”Even though all the servants and guards in the bridal suite had been sent away, there were plenty stationed at the doors and along the way.“We worked together to trick the guards at the gate,” Chloe said proudly. “I played the pitiful

The Godfather was utterly shaken by my words. His face twisted as he roared in rage, “You’re the woman I love! Stop doubting me and untie me right now!”I let out a soft laugh and leaned closer to him. “Ha. You still think I’m an idiot. The woman you want to marry—the so-called true love of your life—she probably doesn’t even exist.”“Don’t rush to deny it,” I continued calmly. “You and I both know what the truth really is, don’t we?”I gripped the hunting knife tighter and drove it hard into his thigh. My smile was chilling, and my hand didn’t loosen in the slightest. It was as if I were avenging the four women who had died so miserably in their previous lives. No matter how much pain I inflicted on him, it could never make up for theirs. Like an act of revenge, I shoved the hilt in even deeper.Still, the Godfather stubbornly clung to his lie. “You’re the one I love most. How could I ever kill you? I was only trying to scare you earlier…”Since he refused to tell me the truth,

The bridal suite had been decorated for the wedding. Red roses covered the entire bed, and candlelight flickered softly, the air heavy with an overly sweet floral scent. The curtains were made of deep crimson velvet, thick enough to block out every trace of moonlight. The servants of the estate had all tactfully withdrawn, leaving the space to the Godfather and me alone. On the table sat an apple and a fruit knife. A flicker of unease passed through me, but I knew there was no point hiding it. After all, the weapon that killed me in my last life had not been that knife.I sat on the edge of the bed, hands resting neatly on my thighs. Then, I heard the lock turn. My heart slammed violently against my chest, but my face maintained the shy composure expected of a bride.“My bride.” The Godfather stepped inside and closed the door behind him. “Have you been waiting long?”“No,” I replied, standing up and forcing myself to look obedient. He walked toward me, his movements slow and eleg

“Are you really going to do this? There’s still time…”That morning, on the day of the wedding, Blair was adjusting the hem of my gown, her voice barely above a whisper as she asked me.“Positive.” I stared at myself in the mirror. The white wedding dress made my face look pale. “So don’t worry. I just need you guys to believe that the plan will go smoothly.”Chloe peeked in through the door. “The car’s here.”The Costello estate was far more heavily guarded than I had imagined. The black limousine passed through three security checkpoints, each manned by armed guards. Surveillance cameras covered every inch of the high walls, and the iron gates were as heavy as those of a prison. In our previous lives, each of us had been married to the Godfather in a church before being sent to the estate. This time, however, the ceremony was taking place directly inside the estate—a sign that something was different.“Oh my God,” Catherine whispered, “this place is like a fortress.”“It’s ea
