Chapter 4

Author: Slate Gray
"Mr. Keller, do you really think I'd be dense enough to skim kickbacks from a farm that you personally own?" I asked.

Ethan looked up, a sharp glint flashing through his eyes. "You knew that was my place?"

"I found out while putting the team-building trip together. When Julio was coordinating with me, he brought you up quite a few times."

Ethan let out a low snort. "That brat can't keep a secret to save his life."

He slid the printouts slightly closer to me. "Then what is all of this?"

"Marilyn fabricated them. She tried to force me to source from her cousin's company, and when I turned her down, she held a grudge."

I pulled up my phone, playing the video clips and audio recordings for Ethan to see.

The moment Ethan heard the recording of Marilyn threatening Julio, he slammed his palm onto the desk. "This is unbelievable! To think the finance department has bred such a toxic parasite!"

I said quietly, "Mr. Keller, she's currently planning to forward this fabricated evidence to HQ. She's even talking about doing a livestream."

Ethan calmed himself down, thinking for a brief moment. "If she wants to make a scene, let's let her blow it completely out of proportion. Go home and rest for a couple of days. I'll tell everyone you've been suspended."

I knew exactly what Ethan was getting at.

He was baiting the trap. He wanted to cut out all the dead weight in the company in one clean sweep.

"Understood, Mr. Keller."

As I stepped out of his office, I deliberately put on a thoroughly devastated expression.

Seeing this, Marilyn immediately began jeering at the top of her lungs. "Look, everyone! Sheryl just got suspended! That's exactly what you get when you're greedy for cash!"

She whipped out her phone and actually went live on a streaming app. "Hey, guys! Today, I'm giving you a front-row seat to some real corporate anti-corruption. Our administrative manager just got caught red-handed taking kickbacks!"

Keeping my head down, I quickly packed up my things and left the company.

Behind me, Marilyn's piercing laughter blended with the sneers of my colleagues.

Once I got home, I didn't waste any time.

First, I reached out to Julio. "Julio, send over the full footage of Marilyn shaking you down for that kickback. Make sure it's in full HD."

Julio worked fast. It hit my inbox in less than ten minutes.

In the video, Marilyn's face was horribly contorted as she pointed a finger right at Julio's nose, spitting threats.

Next, I reached out to a few friends in the tech community to trace the origins of Marilyn's screenshots.

Sure enough, she had paid for a shady online workshop specializing in forging documents and photos.

The transaction records showed she had spent 500 dollars requesting a transfer receipt that "showed the names clearly but kept the details blurry".

What shocked me most was that to make the whole thing look legitimate, Marilyn had actually transferred 50 thousand dollars out of the company's financial accounts.

She assumed that as long as she got me fired, the missing funds could simply be written off under the admin department's expenses.

She was absolutely blinded by her own greed.

Over the next two days, the company chat was a non-stop circus.

Marilyn went live every single day, boasting about how she had stood her ground against corporate corruption to expose the truth.

She had successfully packaged herself as a goddess of workplace justice.

There were even clueless netizens tipping her.

Ben tagged me in the group chat. "Sheryl, I thought you wanted to clear this up face-to-face. Why are you hiding at home like a coward? Are you busy laundering the money?"

I didn't reply. I just sat back and watched them put on their little show.

Marilyn even posted a celebration on her Instagram. "The cancer has been removed, and the air is finally clean! Barbecue tonight!"

Many colleagues liked the post.

I sneered. "Eat up, Marilyn. It might just be the last peaceful meal you ever have."

On the morning of the third day, my phone rang. It was Ethan. "Sheryl, come back to the office. Today is the quarterly business review. All of our business partners will be present. I'm going to settle this score for you in front of everyone."

Her hair was brittle, and her eyes were hollow and vacant. When

"Sheryl! You bitch! You teamed up with her to play me!"I stood a few paces away, coldly watching the spectacle. She was right. This was a trap. The moment those photos leaked last night, I had contacted Millie.I forwarded her every shred of evidence detailing how Marilyn had hired someone to stalk us and orchestrate a blackmail scheme.Millie was a smart woman. She realized instantly that she was being used.I had her slap me earlier to make Marilyn lower her guard entirely and force her to reveal her final hand. Now, Marilyn was beaten black and blue, curled up on the carpet, and wailing.Suddenly, the conference room doors rattled violently from the outside. The lock gave way, and Thomas stormed into the room with some thugs.Catc

The next morning, the second I arrived at the office building, I was instantly ambushed by a swarm of internet influencers and livestreamers wielding smartphones."Ms. Gibson, are the photos online authentic?""Did you actually sleep your way to the top for a promotion?""Please answer the netizens' questions directly!"Microphones were practically shoved into my mouth.I ignored them entirely and used a security escort to wedge my way through the crowd and into the lobby. The moment the elevator doors slid open on our floor, a huge commotion caught my attention from the admin department.A woman dressed in extravagant designer labels and drenched in heavy jewelry stood in the center of the open-plan office. It was Ethan's wife, Millie Byrne. She practically never set foot in the office, but that day, she was radiating fury.To my surprise, Marilyn was there too.Seated in her wheelchair, she was actively fanning the flames from the sidelines."Mrs. Keller, I was terminated

Thomas took a step forward and pointed the tip of his blade directly at my face. "Sign it now! And you're going to pay us a million dollars in emotional damages!"I stared at them coldly. "And if I don't?"Thomas cursed loudly and swung the knife down toward my arm.I twisted out of the way, but the blade still sliced a gash through my jacket, leaving a stinging pain on my forearm.Without a second of hesitation, I whipped out the pepper spray and unleashed a heavy stream into Thomas' face.He let out a shriek while clutching his eyes as he collapsed to the concrete.Seeing that, Marilyn screamed and lunged forward, clawing for my hair.I drove my foot forward and kicked her squarely in the knee. She lost her balance and crashed heavily onto the floor. Every single colleague who had dragged my name through the mud and mocked me in the group chat was now staring down at the floor, not daring to meet my eyes.Ethan stepped onto the stage and took the microphone. "Sheryl has carried an immense, unfair burden over the past few days. Effective immediately, she's promoted to administrative director, with her salary doubled."Furthermore, for anyone who participated in spreading these rumors or joined the dogpile to attack her, your bonuses for this month are entirely forfeited, and you will receive a formal written warning."A collective groan rippled through the room, but nobody dared to utter a single word of protest.Standing on the stage, I scanned those familiar faces.I used to think working in administration was simply about being of service to everyone.I now understood that in the corporate world, your kindness must be armed with a sharp edge.Once the meeting adjourned, Julio walked over to me. "Sheryl, that was legendary.

Marilyn's face turned pale instantly, and her entire body trembled. The doors to the conference room were pushed wide open.Julio stepped inside in a well-fitted suit. Holding a digital tablet, he connected it directly to the projector setup."Hello, everyone. I'm Julio Keller, and I run the farm where the team-building trip took place."The room erupted into an absolute uproar.Marilyn collapsed back into her chair, her lips trembling uncontrollably. "Y-You're Mr. Keller's son?"Julio let out a cold sneer, not even bothering to look her way. "Sheryl, everything is ready."The image on the big screen shifted. The blurry screenshots were gone, replaced by high-definition security footage. On screen, Marilyn was cornering Julio in the farm's back courtyard, grabbing him by the arm."Listen, handsome.
