Chapter 4

Autor: Beloved Farewell
"I have a clean spare uniform in the storage room. Go change before you catch a cold," Ethan said, his face etched with concern.

Seeing how worried he was, I forced myself to calm down and slowly unclenched my fists. "Thanks."

I turned and headed toward the storage room, which was also being used as an internal shelter-in-place room, at the end of the hallway, completely unaware of the smug, triumphant grin spreading across Daniel's face the moment my back was turned.

Once inside, I found the cabinet Ethan had mentioned and quickly changed into the clean uniform. As I buttoned my shirt, I took a closer look around the room. The whole reason I'd gone undercover at this branch was that our finance department had discovered serious discrepancies in its reimbursement claims. I'd already searched the showroom and offices without finding anything suspicious, but I hadn't had a chance to inspect the storage room until now.

I began rummaging through the shelves, examining every document I could find. Before long, I stumbled across a stack of records that immediately caught my attention. After flipping through a few pages, I let out a cold laugh. So, this was how Lily had been cooking the books!

She'd been secretly renting out several of the dealership's high-end test-drive vehicles to rideshare drivers and pocketing the rental income for herself. To cover her tracks, she'd been submitting reimbursement claims for the vehicles' wear and tear, disguising the expenses as routine depreciation caused by test drives. Now I understood why the numbers hadn't added up.

I immediately pulled out my phone and photographed every relevant page, making sure to capture the evidence clearly. Now that I knew exactly what Lily had been up to and had the proof to back it up, there was no reason to put up with another second of their abuse. It was time to settle this once and for all.

I grabbed the door handle and tried to open it, but the door wouldn't budge. A sinking feeling settled in my gut as I realized someone had locked me inside.

"Open the door!" I shouted, pounding on the metal with both fists.

From the other side, I heard Ethan's hesitant voice. "Adrian, I'm sorry. If I don't do what they tell me, I'll get fired, too. My mom is counting on me to help pay for her medical treatment. I can't afford to lose this job."

He paused before adding, "You're just too stubborn. You're never going to survive in the workplace with that attitude. Is it really so hard to swallow your pride and apologize?"

Before I could respond, Daniel swaggered over, laughing obnoxiously.

"You little punk! You brought this on yourself!"

Ethan's tone immediately shifted to one of nervous eagerness. "Mr. Dawson, so… Does this mean I can get a five-star rating for my service? My performance review is coming up at the end of the month."

Daniel waved him off dismissively. "Don't worry about it! Just do what I tell you, and I'll make sure you get your five stars."

He then strolled up to the barred door and glared at me through the gaps, his face twisted with malice.

"You little bastard! Weren't you acting all tough earlier? Weren't you threatening to call the cops? Well, let's see how tough you are now! Get on your knees and apologize. If you beg nicely enough, maybe I'll be a good sport and let you out!"

Lily soon joined him, folding her arms across her chest as she looked down at me with undisguised contempt.

"You're nothing but a low-level grunt, yet you actually think you're somebody? Let me make one thing clear: at this dealership, if you cross my cousin, you cross me!"

Trapped inside the storage room, I was so furious that I actually laughed.

"Lily, do you really think you own this dealership? I'm giving you one last chance. Open this door right now, or you'll regret it!"

"Oh, I'm terrified!" Lily mocked, dramatically patting her chest.

Her smile vanished a moment later, replaced by a vicious scowl. "Still running your mouth, huh? Clearly, you haven't learned your lesson. Maybe you'll finally wise up when you've hit rock bottom. I'm going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget."

With that, she turned and slammed the heavy blast door shut. Then, to my horror, she blocked the room's only ventilation opening, cutting off the already limited airflow.

"This is a specially reinforced blast door," she announced smugly from the other side. "It seals airtight, without even the tiniest gap! Let's see how long you last in there."

The storage room plunged into darkness, and the air quickly grew hot and stuffy. I pounded on the door again, but the thick metal barely rattled. With the ventilation blocked, every breath became more difficult than the last. My chest tightened as I struggled to draw in enough air. If I didn't find a way out soon, I was going to suffocate.

"They mooched free meals, destroyed 600,000 dollars worth of automotive paint, and then tried to burn someone alive! These people are fucking psychopaths!" one viewer raged.Another erupted, "I just sent that bastard a Super Thanks! Give me my money back! I want a refund right fucking now!" Daniel completely lost it. His hands shook as he frantically fumbled with his phone, desperately trying to shut down the livestream. "No! That's not what happened! Those videos are fake! They've been doctored! Just give me a chance to explain!"Lily was just as terrified. Her face deathly pale, she stumbled backward, seemingly unable to believe that their carefully crafted lies had unraveled so spectacularly. But before Daniel could even figure out how to end the stream, the screen suddenly went black. The platform had intervened and permanently banned his account.A glaring system notification appeared on the screen: "This account has been permanently suspended for serious violations of plat

The sound of shattering windshields echoed throughout the showroom as chaos spiraled out of control. As if things weren't bad enough already, Victor's phone suddenly rang. He answered, and his expression darkened almost immediately as the person on the other end delivered the bad news. "Mr. Sterling, we have a serious problem. The livestream has been maliciously edited and pushed to the top of the trending charts. The group's stock price is taking a massive hit. The market's been open for less than ten minutes, and our shares have already plunged eight percent!" Victor broke out in a cold sweat, his hand shaking so badly that he could barely hold his phone steady as he held it out to show me the charts."Mr. Sterling, if we don't shut down that livestream immediately, the losses could be catastrophic!" I merely sneered and calmly pushed his phone back down. "Why would we shut it down?" I asked, my tone almost amused. "Tell the operations team to pour money into promoting Dan

Lily had had enough of the arguing. She pulled out her phone and dialed a number. "Mr. Walker, we've got trouble at the dealership. Some people are making a scene and pretending to be senior executives from headquarters. Get over here with your security team and throw them out!" Less than five minutes later, Brandon Walker, the branch manager, stormed in with several security guards. He immediately stepped in front of Lily protectively before pointing an accusing finger at Victor and me. "Where the hell did you nobodies come from? You have some nerve to cause trouble on my turf."Without waiting for an answer, he barked at the guards, "Security! Beat these scammers up and throw them out! If anything happens, I'll take full responsibility!" The guards immediately closed in around us. Victor's face darkened with fury, and he looked ready to explode, but I raised a hand to stop him. Rather than waste my breath arguing with these people, I pulled out my phone and logged into the

Several bodyguards immediately grabbed fire extinguishers and unleashed a barrage of foam on the burning cardboard and tires. Meanwhile, Victor rushed over and hauled me to my feet. The moment he saw how deathly pale I was, his entire body began to tremble, and his eyes filled with panic. "Call an ambulance!" he roared at the bodyguards behind him, his eyes bloodshot."Mr. Sterling, please hang on! Please forgive me. I shouldn't have taken this long to come." He quickly shrugged off his jacket and wrapped it tightly around me, as though afraid he might lose me if he let go for even a second.Meanwhile, Lily and Daniel stood frozen, staring blankly at the sudden arrival of so many people. Lily, however, had no idea who Victor was. As my family's butler and a member of the corporate headquarters staff, he was hardly someone she could afford to offend, but she had no way of knowing that. Instead, she strode toward the doorway, folded her arms across her chest, and glared at the in

The area outside the storage room fell silent. The only sound was Lily's rapid, panicked breathing. "Who the hell are you?" she demanded. "I was so careful that even the store manager had no idea what I was doing! How could you possibly have found out?""That's none of your business." I stood in the water, my voice cold and unwavering. "Let me out now, and we can still work something out." Lily had clearly been rattled. She was just about to unlock the door when someone suddenly slammed the lock back into place."Lily, have you lost your mind?" Daniel hissed, his voice low and vicious. "He has evidence against you! If you let him out now, he'll turn around and have you thrown in jail!" "Then what the hell are we supposed to do?" Lily's voice trembled. "He even took pictures of everything." "What are you so afraid of?" Daniel sneered. "Now that he knows everything, we can't afford to let him walk out of here alive!" My heart sank. I hurriedly pulled out my phone, hoping to c

The air grew more stifling by the second as I stumbled through the darkness, struggling to breathe. My vision blurred, and waves of dizziness washed over me as my brain struggled to function without enough oxygen. The blast door was sealed so tightly that not even a sliver of light could penetrate it. Lily wasn't just trying to teach me a lesson. She was willing to kill me. But I wasn't about to die in this godforsaken room. Forcing my trembling legs to keep moving, I braced one hand against the wall and felt my way along it until I found the ventilation opening high above me. Someone had covered it with a metal sheet, completely blocking the airflow. Gripping an iron rod, I raised it with what little strength I had left and swung at the sheet again and again, each strike sending a jarring vibration through my arms. Finally, with a shrill screech of tearing metal, the sheet gave way, leaving a hole barely large enough for fresh air to rush in.I immediately pressed my face against
