Chapter Five - So now what?

Samael Wulf

“Freya? That bitch...” Selene hissed.

Without thinking I rushed her, grabbing her by the throat and smashing her into the wall. With her pinned to the wall with one hand, I pointed my finger into her face with the other. With gritted teeth I hissed into her face,

“Don’t you ever call her that. You hear me?”

“B... But, Sam...” She gasped out.

I suddenly let her go when I realized that she couldn’t breathe. She fell to the floor, clutching at her throat while she struggled to catch her breath. Usually, she’d have been able to throw me off of her with ease, but she couldn’t. She was weak.

“What’s happened to you? Why are you so weak?”

I walked away while I waited for her to answer. Opening up the drawer I took out a pair of boxers and pulled them on underneath my towel. Once on, I whipped the towel off and threw it into the washing bin. Opening up the drawers again, I took out some sweat pants and a t-shirt and got dressed. In the time it took me to do all that, Selene had only just dragged herself off of the floor. I had never seen her like that, it was a shock to say the least.

“I’m going to get some breakfast. You coming?” I asked her, but not really giving her an option as I left the room before she answered.

I could hear her coughing and spluttering behind me. I should have felt bad that I’d caused it, but cussing out Freya like that, was never going to end well. She knew how much I loved Freya, so she should have guessed that I’d react like that. I made my way to the kitchen with a wheezing Selene following closely behind. I opened up the kitchen cupboard and got two glasses out. I held one under the giant coffee machine and pressed the button. Out came thick warm blood. I filled the other glass up and took them over to Selene who'd sat herself down at the dining table.

“That’s a useful contraption. I might need to get me one of those,” Selene said with a chuckle, trying to lighten the mood.

I handed her a glass and watched as she gulped the crimson liquid down, not even bothering to stop for breath. When she’d finished, she gasped in some air, then wiped her mouth with her sleeve. I handed her my drink too, then sat down. She gulped that one down too, before slamming the empty glass down onto the table. She then sat back, clearly full.

“Better?”

“Yes. Thank you, I haven’t eaten in days. It’s been so long since I’ve had to hunt. You might say, I’m a little rusty,” she explained with an awkward chuckle.

“Since when do you have to hunt for your food? You usually just use your powers to calm someone, then feed,” I asked, not understanding anything that was going on.

“Since that bitch Frey...”

“Enough!” I bellowed, slamming my fist onto the table. She jumped back in her seat with a frightened hiss. “You can tell me your story without insulting my love. One more comment like that, and I’ll have my brood throw you out. Understand?” She rolled her eyes, but nodded her head in agreement. “Good. Now you may continue.”

“Well, Freya managed to find a way to take all of my powers. I’m going to need your help until I get my powers back. You owe me Samael.”

I stood up and replied,

“Sorry, Selene. I won’t help you. I won’t go against Freya, again.” With that said, I continued to stroll out of the dining room. “You can see yourself out.”

“You will help me Samael. You wouldn’t even remember who the fuck Freya was, if it wasn’t for me, and that!” She ran out in front of me and pulled my t-shirt collar down and pointed her shaky finger at my shoulder.

I looked down at my angel mark before scowling back at her. I pulled my t-shirt back up, then walked towards the front door, my plan was to throw her ass out myself. “Fine, if that’s not reason enough to owe me. Then how about I tell your brood what happened to your brothers and Kali?” She whispered.

Rage built up inside me instantly. I spun around grabbing her by the throat and lifted her into the air. I snarled up at her, and although she couldn’t breathe, she grinned sadistically down at me. My head spun around when I heard footsteps upstairs, so I quickly opened the office door and threw Selene inside. She slid along the floor and slammed into the desk.

“Tell me what you know,” I demanded.

Pulling herself off the floor she replied,

“Everything!” She snapped then walked around the desk and sat in my chair. “I’m still your lines sire, remember? I can access your thoughts. Especially when you’re dreaming and forget to lock me out.”

I sighed with agitation while taking a seat on the couch.

“What do you want Selene?”

“Freya’s head on a spike!”

Freya Rose

I’d had a meeting with the twins, Finn, Savanah, and the witch teens. I needed to work out what to do with Selene. She needed to be out of my life for a while, but I was worried if I cut her loose, that she would continue to hunt witch and warlock kids. I needed ideas and fast. We all drove out to a secluded location, far enough away from the cabin. I had the rest of the pack keeping guard of Selene and Gideon. I hadn’t told them anything. I didn’t need Selene fishing it out of their heads, then tricking them into letting her escape. The twins fed her some more sleeping meds, and we hoped they would last long enough.

The cars pulled up into a clearing and we all got out. I found a fallen tree and sat down. The witch teens sat on the floor in front of me, Savanah next to me, with Finn and the twins stood behind the witches.

“Why are we out here?” Draco asked with agitation.

I could tell it was more nerves than anything else, he was just trying to cover it up.

“I need a way to get rid of Selene,” I replied.

“Like, kill her?” Lorena asked with more hope in her voice than the twins liked.

Marik growled at her, making her duck down in fear. Draco stood up ready to challenge Marik. I didn’t know what he thought he’d achieve, Marik would have snapped his neck in seconds.

“Stop. Sit down!” I screamed at them.

Marik gave me a confused look and placed his finger on his chest, silently asking me if I meant him too.

“Yes. All of you. Sit.” The twins and Finn looked at me like I was insane. But I was fed up of all of them acting like fucking children. This was a serious situation, and I needed to take complete control. “Now!”

They all jumped at my bellowing voice and did as they were told. The grown men looked ridiculous trying to get comfy on the dirt, and it was difficult to keep the grin from my face, especially when Finnley lifted his ass to pull a stick out from underneath him. I found it amusingly fitting, and by Mina's chuckles in my head, and Savanah's giggles beside me, I wasn’t the only one that thought he had a stick up his ass.

“No, I don’t want her dead. She is the mother of us all, I have no idea what would happen to us all if she was killed.” The twins shot me daggers for even thinking of ending their mother’s life. I rolled my eyes and continued, “and I still love her regardless of what she’s done. Although, with Azael, Kali and Gideon to deal with, I really don’t have the time or energy to keep an eye on an unstable, murderous, Moon Goddess.”

Traian and Marik both nodded their heads in agreement. Although they loved their mother, they didn’t particularly have a close relationship. It was more the bond that tied them together, and once we went ahead with our mating bond, they would soon grow even more distant.

“So, anyone got any ideas?” I asked as I looked from one face to another. Each one gave me a blank stare. “Nothing? Really?”

“Well…” We all turned to look at Savanah. “No, it probably isn’t an option.”

I grabbed her arm and replied,

“What? What was you thinking Savanah?”

She glanced over at Draco and sighed.

“We have a way of stripping Selene of her Goddess power.”

“Really? How?” I asked with excitement.

“Gideon has been feeding Selene his covens’ power for years. His father and grandfather were feeding her beforehand, in exchange for Phoenix's.”

“No, that’s not true, my father would never do that!” Draco screamed out.

Lorena placed her hand on his shoulder, and with sympathy in her voice said,

“Draco, please calm down. You know this makes complete sense. The coven has been getting weaker for generations, and we didn’t know why.”

Draco lowered his head and sighed, clearly accepting it as truth. He quietened down and let Savanah continue.

“As I was saying, Gideon has been feeding her power in exchange for Phoenix’s. Generations ago, Phoenix hunters weren’t as rare as they are now. You can thank Selene for their near extinction.”

We all sat there shocked and intrigued by her story. I could feel everyone’s emotions building up. Draco felt anger and embarrassment. Train and Marik were frustrated. I was livid, and struggling to keep myself in check. Not only did the woman kill innocent weaker witch children, and drain the powerful, she also killed God knows how many hunters. I knew she wasn’t a Saint, but I wasn’t expecting her to still be doing this kind of stuff. How could I take over as the leader of all supernatural beings, and promise them peace and harmony, when I had a monster like her by my side?

“So, what I was thinking was, if we could strip her of her power, we would be able to send her away and not have to worry about her,” Savanah said with a shrug.

“And how would we do that exactly?” Traian asked.

“Well, we would have to ask Gideon to reverse the spell, but it would mean giving up the Phoenix power that he has collected over the years…”

She was quickly interrupted by Draco.

“There is no way he will ever give that power up.”

“Then we'll make him,” Marik retorted, punching his fist into his other hand.

“No. You don’t understand, power means more to my father than anything else. He will never give it up. He'd sooner die...”

“Then maybe we tell him that we, have you?” Marik snarled.

The boy shook his head and replied,

“He won’t care.”

“You need to tell them Draco,” the soft voice of Lorena spoke up to her boyfriend.

Draco nodded as he sat back down, and we all listened carefully to his story.

“See, we didn’t know where she came from, but a baby girl was dropped off on our doorstep. My mother found it difficult to conceive children, so she begged my father to keep her. He agreed and life was great. Six years later my mom fell pregnant with me, and when I came along, we were one big happy family.”

Lorena placed a reassuring hand on Draco’s arm. He patted her hand and let her know that he was okay before continuing.

“As far as I knew, Helena was my sister. We lived a normal life, until I was ten years old. We were having a party for Helena's birthday and some of the other witch girls began teasing her about not having her powers yet. Anyway, a few of them got really nasty, shoving and hitting her, until she couldn’t take anymore.”

He paused for a moment, clearly choked by what he was remembering. I felt awful for the boy, whatever it was, had him in a complete state. Lorena squeezed his arm and as Draco lowered his head, she continued for him.

“Helena couldn’t take the teasing anymore, and when Draco's mom broke up the fight, she wanted to get back at the girls. She was so angry for them ruining her birthday, that she tried to channel her powers. I guess she thought that they would leave her alone then. Well she did manage to channel that power. It just wasn’t the power that anyone expected.”

“She was a Phoenix, wasn’t she?” Savanah asked, but by the sound of her voice, I knew it was a statement more than a question.

“Yes,” Draco replied. He had calmed himself enough to continue his story. He looked like it was a task he needed to conquer. “As soon as she burst into flames, all the teenagers and children ran away screaming. My mother was so panicked, she kept trying to calm Helena down, saying that my father couldn’t see her like that.”

Draco became increasingly upset while he was telling his story, and I wasn’t sure if he would be able to continue. But after a few deep breaths he began to carry on.

“It was too late. My father had already sensed her power. He came charging out of the house, chanting already in full swing. As soon as he got close enough, Helena began to levitate into the air, and her screams were like nothing I’d ever heard before. My mother tried yelling at my father to let her go, but she couldn’t get through to him. He was so focused on Helena and her flames. It was like nothing else existed.”

I could see where this was going and my heart broke for the boy. After feeling Gideon’s wrath for myself, I knew how much pain that girl would have gone through. I was lucky enough to have my pack, and the twins to help stop him, but it was a close one. That poor girl wouldn’t have known what hit her. With tears flowing, Draco finished his story.

“When my mom couldn’t get through to him, she had no other choice. She began chanting and hurling her magic at him. He was just hitting it away with ease, like he was swatting at flies or something. When she stood in the middle of them and begged him to stop, he held his hand up and threw a fireball at her.”

Draco collapsed onto the floor crying his heart out. The boy’s sobs were killing me, all I wanted to do was hug the poor thing and tell him that everything was going to be okay. But I couldn’t, I knew I couldn’t lie to him. The boy had been let down so much in his life, there was no way I could give him false hope. Luckily for me, Savanah got up and made her way to him. He was beyond consolable, and even his girlfriend’s efforts were futile.

Savannah knelt in front of the boy and placed her hands on his temples. She tilted her head back and within a few moments the boy’s sobs calmed, and she gently lowered him to the floor. Once peacefully asleep I mind linked Finnley and asked him to take the boy back to the car. He did as he was asked and picked up Draco. Lorena followed along, and soon they were gone. I looked at everyone and with a defeated tone asked,

“So, now what?”
