Rhys's POV

I hurried away from the beach, but the image of Becca was burned into my mind.

In the moonlight, her eyes shone like stars.

That close contact almost made my wolf lose control.

The "bond of fate" my father mentioned—I could feel it now, clear as day.

It was a yearning that came from the depths of my soul, making me want to protect her, possess her, mark her.

Damn it.

I punched the trunk of a nearby palm tree.

She was carrying another wolf's child. I shouldn't be having these thoughts.

"Alpha?"

My second-in-command, Marcus, stepped out of the shadows.

"How's the patrol?" I forced my voice to sound normal.

"All clear. But..." Marcus hesitated. "There's something you need to see."

I followed him to the island's sacred center.

A legendary, ancient Moonwood tree grew there. It had been dormant for centuries.

But now, it was blooming.

Silver flowers glowed softly in the night, breathtakingly beautiful.
