Chapter 15: Emily's Dad

“Are you crazy?” I snapped.

“Oh, honey, it’s called raising awareness. God forbid I use my platform for something good. If Bridal Luxe sees this, they'll be covering my wedding for sure.”

Roman finally looked up, jaw flexing. “Turn that shit off. Now.”

Chloe tilted the phone toward her fake-teary face and forced a sob. “This is a family tragedy. And I—”

The phone was snatched from her hand mid-sentence.

Alyssa stood, eyes red, hair falling messily around her face. “You want tragedy?” she hissed. “You want attention, Chloe?”

“Alyssa—”

The crack of the slap silenced the room.

Chloe’s head snapped to the side. The silence after was thick and ringing.

Alyssa hurled the phone against the wall. It shattered into pieces like her restraint had.

“Get. Out.”

“You’re overreacting—”

“OUT!”

Roman stood. Lizzie jumped. Even Dean moved as Chloe stormed out, one hand cradling her cheek and eyes glistening—not from pain, but rage.

Dean moved to pick up the broken pieces of Ch

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Putting On A Show

Chapter 24: Putting On A Show Savannah The hostess ushered us out of the booth where we were previously seated, past soundproofed walls and loud moans. Past the sound of whips and the rattling of chains. Past the rough grunts and painful cries of people living out their erotic fantasies. Until we stopped in front of a door. Room 6.Roman’s arm was still around my waist, gripping. I could feel how tense he was. The hostess ushered us in and shut the door. The silence in the room was deafening. It almost felt like a shooting range. It was soundproofed to mask a battle. And tastefully furnished for wealthy men with taboo fantasies. Black velvet walls. Gold trim. Crystal lights that dripped from the ceiling like frozen rain. The scent of expensive perfume, leather, and a whisper of something darker clung to the air. Everything pulsed with quiet decadence. The kind of place that made men lie and women become legends. The music was low, almost seductive. Not loud enough to drown conver

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    The Snake And The Weasel

Chapter 23: The Snake And The Weasel Roman“When we agreed to go on… this with you, I never thought we'd be coming to a place like this.” Chloe took a sip of her drink, “Well, Dean brought the idea. I just went along… but isn't it wonderful? We get to have such scandalous fun before the wedding.” She giggled like a junkie while gesturing to the lush environment. It wasn’t sleazy like some of the ones in Philly. This is upscale and luxurious. You could tell that shit goes down in here and not a whisper of it is heard outside these walls. No blinking neon signs or sticky bar stools. The lighting was low and warm, casting honeyed shadows over velvet booths and polished floors. Everything smelled like money, expensive perfume, cigars and mystery. Dancers moved like silk across the stage, twisting, curling, bending in ways that made physics weep. Wearing nothing but skyscraper heels and diamonds. And yes, I've frequented lots of these places. I'm actually a VIP client at one back home

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    A Gentleman’s Club

Chapter 22: A Gentleman's ClubLater That Day RomanShe took her sweet time. I was already dressed—black shirt, white slacks, black shoes, nothing overdone, but clean. Classic. I sat on the edge of the bed, legs crossed, scrolling through my phone without actually seeing anything on the screen. I was trying not to think about Savannah’s dress. She’d been teasing it all morning, saying it was “a little red,” and “a little tight,” with that crooked smirk she wore whenever she knew she was about to ruin me. And I let her. Because I'm masochistic that way. I enjoy the destruction. The bathroom door creaked open.I looked up.And the air left my lungs. She wasn’t just a vision. She was a threat. Red latex, sculpted to her like it had been painted on by the devil himself. Her legs—long, bare, dangerous. Her bob framed her face in this sharp, devastating way. That neckline? Deep enough to make religion tremble. My phone slipped from my fingers and landed on the carpet with a soft thud, t

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    You Always Have A Choice

Chapter 21: You Always Have A ChoiceBy the time we made it downstairs, we looked like any other couple—maybe even a little too perfect.I was in a dungaree and Roman was in shorts and a white cotton shirt. We looked normal. Too normal. Emily was radiant, seated at the center of the room like the returning queen she was. A birthday cone was sitting on her head and a giant cake in front of her that you'd think it was her birthday. Her hair was braided neatly in a french plait, eyes sparkling with health, her stuffed unicorn sitting beside her plate of lasagna. There was champagne, wine, red velvet cake, and family crowding every space.Even Lizzie's mom, Aunt Carol, was present. Alyssa beamed when she saw Roman, mouthing a silent ‘be right back’ to Uncle Jace then began to walk in our direction. She pulled Roman into a hug, whispering, “Thank you so much.” I awkwardly stood by the side, hands folded at my back, watching the exchange like a stranger.‘The wheels on the bus’ was pl

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    A Train Wreck In Slow Motion

Chapter 20: A Train Wreck In Slow Motion The morning light forced its way into the room, casting that perfect golden glow on everything it touched. Except me. So many memories of us like this, in this position, resurfaced. It was always because I had a breakdown. I'd always come crying to him. And he'd hold me close and never let go until I was fine. Roman never had any of such episodes, he always had his shit together. I was sprawled over him, one leg draped lazily across his waist, my cheek resting against the warm, steady rise and fall of his chest. His arms were still around me, loosely now, like neither of us wanted to be the first to let go.We were both awake. I could feel it in the way his fingers flexed gently against the small of my back, the way his chest tensed beneath me each time I exhaled. But we didn’t say anything. Not for a long, long time.Until I did."Am I really that difficult to love?" I asked softly, voice barely above a whisper. It wasn’t even meant to

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Zane With A Silent G

Chapter 19: Zane With A Silent G Zane.Chloe's ex, Zane, with a silent G. His hair was messier than usual, like he'd been running his hands through it. His green t-shirt clung to his frame, his jeans low and relaxed. His brow piercing and lip piercing glimmered in the million lights inside the mall. He still wore that careless grin that always felt like a dare. Like he knew you knew something he didn't want you to know, but he's not bothered because no one else is going to know. Yeah… cocky. God, I'm losing my mind, aren't I? “Savannah,” he said, like he’d been expecting me.My heart thudded. What the hell was he doing here?“Zane?” I asked carefully. “Shopping for stilettos now?”He smirked. “Nah. Just came to check out some… old habits.”His gaze flicked toward the boutique where Chloe was giggling with Dean again, pointing at a teddy bear in a police costume. My stomach dropped. They weren’t here coincidentally. “You two came together?” I asked. He gave a vague shrug. “She
