“I'm two months Pregnant!”
“But…how? I-” she paused for a moment, quickly recalling the events of that fateful night, two months back. Amelia left the doctor's office. The look on her face gave out the impression that someone had died, and in a way, someone did. Her dreams of becoming an accountant were slipping away. Living under her father's roof, barely surviving, she couldn't imagine raising a child in her current state, let alone while still attending her lectures. It was all over. ************************ Amelia had gotten home, the test results in an envelope hidden behind her back. She quietly snuck into the house and made her way towards her room. “And where do you think you're going” A sharp voice demanded. It was Amelia's stepmom and Erica's mother, Liliana. “Didn't you hear me? You little wretch!” “I-” Amelia trembled as she spoke. Liliana was your typical evil stepmother, adoring no one else but herself. She never liked Amelia from the start and the last thing Amelia wanted was for Liliana to find out about her pregnancy. “I went to the library.” “Liar!” She raised her hands and struck Amelia with an ear-deafening slap. “I'll ask just once more.” Liliana's voice echoed all over the house. “Where have you been!” Amelia, now on the floor, looked up at her stepmom with tear-filled eyes. She couldn't understand why Liliana had so much resentment towards her. “I went to the libra…” Slap! Liliana didn't spare another minute before laying her hands on Amelia again. She derived a sense of joy from seeing her suffer. “You're just like your worthless Mother.” With that, Liliana made her way towards the door to leave. “Don't talk about my mom that way” Amelia mumbled under her breath. She was used to the insults and the constant pain inflicted on her. But if there was one thing she could never tolerate, it was when Liliana or Erica talked about her mom. “Why you little b*tch..” Liliana walked towards Amelia, arm raised, no doubt going in for another slap, but as if karma were waiting for the right moment, Liliana slipped and fell butt first to the hard-tiled floor. “Mum!” Erica rushed to her mom's aid after hearing the thump sound. She picked her up, and they both glared at Amelia, who was still on the floor. “Amelia you witch! My mum could have seriously gotten hurt because of you.” Just then, Amelia's Dad, Jake Quinn, came rushing in, for he also heard the thumping sound coming from the living room. “What's going on here?” He demanded to know. Eyes widened at Amelia, he didn't utter a word or do anything to at least help her. “Darling!” Liliana clung to Amelia's Dad like a leech does its host. “Amelia pushed me and I fell.” on her face was planted a devious smile. “Amelia! Is this true?” The look of disappointment was written all over his face. “No, Dad, I-” Before she could finish, Erica had snatched the envelope from behind her back. “Oh, what do we have here?” Erica smirked as she unfolded the papers and skimmed through the test results. “What the...?” Erica handed the results to her mother and stepfather with a sly grin on her face. She lived for moments like this. “Dad, I can explain…” “I want you out of my house now!” His voice was cold, a stern look on his face. He had never really paid much attention to Amelia ever since he remarried. All he did for her was to pay for her master's program and put a roof over her head. “Get out! You are no daughter of mine.” *********************** Amelia was thrown out of the only home she had ever known. Erica and Liliana were more than happy to pack all her belongings out, saying good riddance to the one who didn't fit in the family. With literally nowhere else to go, Amelia just sat there on the edge of the pavement. She searched through her bag, looking if she had any money that she could use to take a cab to her friend's house, who was already aware of the situation at hand. Just then, as if a sign from God, the business card she had kept from that night two months ago fell out of the side pocket of her Jacket. “What's this?” She picked it up and gave it a little clean to see the name written on it. “Kris Fox?” She exclaimed, “He's got to be the father of this unborn child. Other than him, I haven't slept with anyone in two months. let's see…” Her eyes scanned the card for clues to who he might be. “Fox Enterprise, huh? I'll start from there.” Someone's bound to know who he is right? ************************ Fox Enterprise was not just any other company in the City, it was the Largest Business Empire in the states, anyone who worked there had an average pay of $1000 per month, and aside from the fact it was the pillar of all businesses, it was also where Kris Fox, Amelia's mystery man, worked. “Uhm excuse me?” Amelia gestured to the receptionist, but she gave her no attention. She kept her eyes glued to the computer in front of her. “I'm looking for Kris Fox.” The receptionist froze at the mention of the name. “Do you have an appointment, Miss?” She asked while stuttering. Of course, Amelia didn't have an appointment, but she wasn't leaving that building without seeing Kris. “Yes, I do, actually; I'm his, eh..” her eyes caught a glimpse of the time; it was 9:40 am. “I'm his 10 o'clock.” Amelia started to sweat internally, she knew she'd be kicked out if anything went wrong. “Let…me…see” The receptionist checked her computer, scrolling through what Amelia assumed to be appointment schedules. “Oh yes, Miss Linda from Balls and Beauty.” The receptionist looked up at Amelia. “Mr. Fox is expecting you; just take the elevator to the top floor and make a left turn at HR.” Amelia was surprised, she honestly couldn't believe that worked. Amelia followed the directions the receptionist had given her, and before long, she found herself standing in front of an office door; she slowly knocked, hesitant at first; what if he didn't want to hear me out? “Come in.” Amelia walked into that office like she had walked into hell; she felt unease, and her spine tingled with anxiety. “Hello, sir.” The office chair slowly turned around, revealing a man dressed in a brown suit; his hairline had receded at least 5 inches back, and his face was saggy and droopy. His shoulders were like that of a woman, his voice not sounding anything close to the voice that had haunted her dreams. Was this really Kris Fox from that night? “And you are?” He asked while relaxing back on the office chair. “C'mon lady I don't have all day!” Amelia was unsure of what to say; the Man she remembered, and the man in front of her were two different people. She first thought she had made a wrong turn to the wrong office but seeing the name tag on the table proved her otherwise. With a deep breath, Amelia explained everything that had happened to her up to that moment and presented him with the pregnancy test. “Hahahahaha” He bursted into laughter. “Lady, I don't know who put you up to this, but you've got the wrong person. Please leave before I call security!” He managed to mutter out between laughs. “Please believe me, Kris, I'm telling the truth!” Amelia tried to plead, knowing that he was her only hope of redemption. “You're the father of this ch-” She was cut off. “Do you think you're the first to pull this kind of stunt? Please, if I had a penny for every time some pregnant chick came here mumbling nonsense, I'd build a house in a week.” His voice had gotten steeper, his gaze now fully focused on Amelia. “Leave now! Don't make me throw you out myself!” Amelia's heart fell apart, not even the father of her unborn child wanted to help her. She slid the pregnancy test results onto the table and, with that, went on her way, tears full in her eyes. Just then, a man came into the office, someone matching more of Amelia's description. This man was the real Kris Fox! “Collins, who was that girl I just saw running out of the office?” Kris looked at his friend Collins who was still seated in the office chair. “Just another chick coming to trap you with a pregnancy that isn't yours. How these ladies come here with such audacity is beyond me!” Collins takes a look at the pregnancy test results. “This one really went all out” “Hey, Kris? How do you know one of these ladies isn't actually pregnant for you?” “Easy Collins, There's a one in a million chance that I'd get a lady pregnant, and that'd be from some sort of miracle,” Kris explained. “Why? What do you mean?” Asked Collins, who was also eager to know. “I have Azoospermia!”Amelia stumbled back a little as Kris leaned in, his lips brushing dangerously close to hers. Her heart skipped a beat, but instinct took over, and she wriggled out of his grip."Kris!" she scolded under her breath, stepping away just in time for the door to creak open.Tony the butler stood at the doorway, eyes wide, then quickly covered them with a dramatic gasp. "Oh dear heavens! My apologies, young master, Miss Quinn. Lunch is ready. The family awaits you in the garden."Amelia’s eyes widened. "It’s not what you think!"Tony gave a suspicious cough and turned around, still peeking through his fingers. "Don't worry Miss, I didn't see anything. Nothing at all," he muttered before shutting the door behind him.Amelia spun toward Kris and stomped on his foot. "What was that? I told you no funny business! If this fake relationship is going to work, I need to make a good impression. We need your family’s blessing if we're going to pull this off."Kris, rubbing his foot with a wince, chu
Amelia stood in the entrance of the Fox mansion, dressed in her favorite pair of high-waist jeans, a tucked-in white blouse, and sneakers. Her hair was brushed back into a sleek ponytail. It was casual and more importantly comfortable, but judging by the way Mr. Richard Fox, Kris's father, was staring at her, you'd think she'd walked in wearing pajamas. "Kris," Mr. Fox began, his gaze sliding slowly from Amelia's shoes up to her face, "didn't I tell you we were having a proper lunch? Not a picnic?" Amelia's lips curled into a tight smile. "Good afternoon, Mr. Fox." He gave a stiff nod and turned back to Kris. "Lunch will be served in exactly one hour. Show... Miss Quinn around. I'm sure she's never seen a building of this size before." The sting of his words hit Amelia like a slap to her face, but she didn’t let it show. She smiled again, even wider this time. Kris slipped his arm around her waist and leaned in, whispering, "To me, you look lovely." She knew he was just trying
Amelia groaned as her phone buzzed loudly against the wooden nightstand, it's screen flashing a name she didn't want to deal with—Kris.Without bothering to check it, she hissed under her breath and tapped the screen to silence it. “It’s too early for whatever drama you wanna drag me into, Kris,” she muttered, swinging her legs off the bed. After freshening up and getting dressed, she called Mikey to hurry up, “Mikey you're going to be late, again! Hurry up please" But as usual, he took his sweet time brushing his teeth and zipping up his school bag. Once he was in the car, munching on a granola bar, she slid into the driver’s seat and exhaled.“Ready?" She asked as she fastened Mikey's seatbelt. Her phone buzzed again.Kris.She rolled her eyes and put the phone on silent. “Whatever it is will have to wait,” she whispered to herselff. She dropped Mikey off at school, waving goodbye before heading off to work. “Time to start the day" ********As she reached the office, Mrs. P smiled
The dining table was unusually quiet except for the sound of forks clinking against plates. Kris sat at one end of the table, looking surprisingly comfortable for someone who was technically just a guest. Mikey, however, was far from comfortable. He kept staring at Kris, his eyes narrowing with every bite of his meal.“Which is it?"Mikey folded his arms and tilted his head. “I mean it would explain a lot of things. Like why are you always at our house?”The question, blunt and direct, caught Kris off guard. He blinked and glanced at Amelia, who avoided his gaze by sipping her water.“Mikey!” Amelia said, her voice firm. “Don’t be rude”Leo, sitting beside Mikey, looked at his dad curiously. “Wait, is that true Dad? Are you always here?”Kris shifted in his seat, unsure of how to respond. He glanced at Amelia again, silently asking for help, but she was busy glaring at Mikey. Finally, he cleared his throat.“Well, you see, Amelia and I are getting ma…” Kris began, but Amelia quickly
“Uhm Ryan, right?” Amelia asked, feeling her cheeks heat up. “Last night was uhm... interesting.”“Interesting? That’s one way to put it,” Ryan said with a laugh. “You were pretty feisty for someone who doesn’t look like she parties often.”Amelia rolled her eyes. “Well it’s not exactly my scene. I just needed a break, you know.”Ryan tilted his head, his expression softening. “Tough day?”Amelia sighed. “Tough life. Let’s just say I’ve had a lot on my plate lately, and last night was my way of forgetting it all, even if it was just for a moment.”Ryan nodded, his gaze steady. “I get it. Sometimes you need to let loose. But hey, if you ever need another escape from reality, I’d be happy to join you.”Amelia hesitated. “Uhm, I don’t know if that’s a good idea…”Ryan raised an eyebrow, a playful grin spreading across his face. “Huh? Are you saying no to a good time, Amelia?”She laughed despite herself. “Fine. But don’t expect me to be all dancing and acting crazy again.”“Nah, I'll be
Amelia made her way up the stairs, her body heavy with exhaustion. She was tired of everything. All she needed now was her son, Mikey. As she entered the apartment, Mikey came rushing toward her, arms wide open. “Mom!” he cried, holding her tightly as though he never wanted to let go.“Honey, are you okay?” Amelia felt tears roll down his cheeks. “Don't cry, Mikey… Mummy's here” She gave him a reassuring pat on the head. Amelia loved Mikey with everything in her. She wasn't going to let anything or anyone come between them. Not even Kris. If he didn't want Mikey, she'd take care of him herself, just like always.“Where’s Mel?” she asked, hoping to thank her for watching over Mikey.“She’s still at work, but Sherie’s here,” Mikey answered.“Hi, Mrs. Quinn,” Sherie greeted from the kitchen, smiling. She was the regular babysitter when Mel and Amelia weren't home.“I’ve told you, Sherie, it’s just Amelia.” She didn't want anything to do with the Quinn family; bearing their name was bad e
