Chapter 4

작가: Sunny Summer
Daisy kneeled on the floor. Her knees were wet.

After the maids cleaned up the spilled water, she returned to her room with tears in her eyes, shut the door, and called her lawyer. "I want a divorce."

After hanging up, she curled up on the bed.

The sky gradually turned dark. At some point, her bedroom door was opened.

Dario leaned against the doorway. His tone was noticeably gentler. "Daisy, Julia's emotions have been unstable ever since the pregnancy. Don't take what happened earlier to heart."

Daisy said nothing.

After a pause, he continued, "Get changed. We have a fundraising gala tonight, and I need you there with me."

The fundraising gala was held at a private manor.

Daisy walked behind Dario and Julia the entire evening.

During the auction, a jade bracelet was brought onto the stage.

Daisy raised her paddle.

The moment Julia saw it, she immediately joined the bidding.

The price climbed all the way to two million.

When the auction hammer finally came down, Daisy was the one who won the bid.

Julia was visibly jealous. Even her hand, which held onto the bidding paddle, was trembling with rage.

She looked at Dario with a wronged expression. "Dario, I really like that bracelet."

Dario wiped the tears from her eyes and spoke gently. "Do you really want it?"

Julia pouted and nodded.

Dario glanced sideways at Daisy before whispering something to his assistant.

During intermission, Dario called Daisy into a private lounge.

He shut the door and turned his phone screen toward her.

On the screen was a secretly taken intimate photo of her while she slept. One side of her nightgown had slipped down, exposing part of her chest.

"Julia's upset that you took the bracelet she wanted. She's pregnant, so I need to cheer her up somehow. I'll have to inconvenience you a little."

His tone remained gentle and calm, as though discussing something insignificant. "How about trading this photo for the bracelet you won?"

Daisy's face instantly turned pale.

"You'll agree, won't you?" He tilted his head to look at her and smiled, but his gaze was cold as ice.

Daisy stood frozen. Her nails dug into her palms so hard they nearly broke skin. It felt like someone had jabbed a blade straight through her chest.

Dario gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Are you upset? Is it because I took your private photo, or because I'm asking you to give the bracelet to Julia?"

He chuckled before brushing a thumb against her cheek. "Don't be mad. The picture turned out beautiful. I'm not going to show it to anyone."

Daisy stared at him with a pale face before silently handing him the bracelet.

Dario accepted it and passed her a folder. "Alright. You've suffered enough tonight. Pick a property. Consider it compensation."

With that, he took the bracelet and walked straight off to find Julia.

Expressionless, Daisy slipped the signed divorce agreement into the folder. When Dario returned, she handed it to him.

"I want this one."

Without even looking, Dario took the folder and signed the document inside. After doing so, he handed it back to her.

Daisy glanced at Dario's signature. She then tucked the document into her purse.

As the car drove away from Verdant Manor, Daisy leaned back against the seat and stared out the window.Streetlights passed one after another outside, but her expression remained unreadable.Caleb kept one hand on the steering wheel. After a while, he finally spoke. "It's over now.""Yeah. None of that should've happened."Caleb glanced at her but said nothing else. The next morning, Daisy walked out from the east wing and stopped the moment she reached the living room entrance. The curtains had been replaced with new ones. A white tablecloth covered the coffee table, which was filled with fresh flowers.Candles flickered gently atop the fireplace mantel.Daisy stood frozen at the doorway for a moment.Caleb stepped out from the side.He had on a dark gray suit. The atmosphere inside Verdant Manor was heavy.Several doctors stood in the hallway. They were all invited from major families in the country. His complexion was a waxy yellow.Dario stood beside the bed while Julia sat in the corner. The doctors before Daisy had each taken turns examining Enzo, but none of them could find the cause. When it was finally Daisy's turn, she had barely crouched down before Enzo suddenly began convulsing violently."Enzo!" Julia screamed and ran forward before shoving Daisy away. "What did you do?"Dario's expression changed instantly as well. He stared at Daisy and asked in a deep voice, "What did you do?""I didn't even touch him." Daisy stood up."He was perfectly fine earlier!" Julia held Enzo tightly as tears streamed down her face. "The moment you came over, this happened. Did you do this

Dario stood at the doorway. His voice was deep.Julia's face instantly turned pale. "What did she do?""She hit Daisy with her car. The Anderson family dealt with her."Julia's fingers tightened around the fabric of her dress. "I didn't know. She never told me anything."Dario stared at her without speaking.Julia lowered her head to avoid his gaze."Aren't you two best friends?" Dario's voice turned colder. "She deliberately hit someone with her car, and you knew nothing about it?"Julia bit down on her lip. "She's been acting strange lately, but I really didn't know she would do something like this."Dario didn't look at her again. He turned around and left. After the door closed, Julia stood where

A few days later, Daisy was discharged from the hospital.Caleb brought her back to the manor and helped her sit down on the sofa."We found out who did it. It was Sophia."Daisy froze for a moment. "Sophia? Julia's best friend?""Yeah.""Why would she hit me with her car?" Daisy asked.Caleb was silent for a moment, "Probably because of me. She pursued me before, but I rejected her."Daisy slowly clenched her fists. After a while, she finally spoke. "So this is revenge over unrequited love?""Most likely." Caleb looked at her. "Once they bring her in, I'll take you with me."Daisy nodded. She looked out the window and stared at the gray sky outside. Two days later, Caleb's phone rang. After listening for a few moments, he looked at Daisy. "They caught her. Do you want to go?"Daisy stood up immediately. "Yes."Sophia had been brought into a room. Her hair was disheveled, and her clothes were covered in dust.
