Chapter 5

Lena had grievances she couldn't voice, but seeing Joanna so exhausted, she didn't want to say anything.

Joanna placed a new set of pajamas on the bed and said, "There is an en-suite bathroom in your room. You should go and take a shower and rest. I'm so tired today that I won't chat with you anymore."

Lena nodded and calmly said, "Thank you."

She saw Joanna walking towards one of the bedroom doors and knew that the other room was hers.

She grabbed her pajamas and took a shower. Afterward, she finally felt much more comfortable.

Just as Lena was about to fall asleep, she received a new message on her phone.

When she opened it, she saw that it was from her younger brother, Randy Dawson.

"Lena, I'm on vacation and just arrived home. Today is Leah's birthday. Why aren't you here? Mom said you ran away from home again. Why are you always acting like this? Come back soon. I can't get used to the food the maid makes. I still prefer the food you make. Tomorrow morning, I'll have mashed potato salad. Don't forget it."

"Leah cried tonight. When you come back, remember to apologize first. Don't you feel tired of causing these troubles every time? Even Hayden doesn't like you. Sometimes, because of you, I feel embarrassed in front of other people."

Lena's heart ached again. She tightly grasped her phone, feeling as if the whole world loved Leah.

On the other hand, Lena was considered useless since she was young. She was always considered a nuisance.

Even if Lena had lost her memories, she still instinctively felt the pain.

The next day, Lena woke up very early. There were noticeable dark circles under her eyes.

She went to the kitchen and started cooking. Unexpectedly, she discovered that her culinary skills seemed to be quite good.

Joanna walked out of her room and smelled the fragrance inside the house. She let out a sigh.

"Are you bringing breakfast to Hayden again? After all these years, have you ever seen him eat anything you made? A dignified young lady wasting her time studying culinary skills, not working after graduation, and chasing after him for years—only to end up being ridiculed by everyone. What are you even hoping for?"

Lena's hand paused as she held the spoon. She wanted to say that she wasn't cooking for Hayden.

But at present, no one believed her.

She served several small dishes and brought them to the dining table.

Joanna's resume was on the dining table. Lena glanced at it and declared, "Joanna, I want to go find a job. What was my major in college?"

Joanna looked at the few dishes on the table, furrowing her brows and pondering for a while.

"Lena, you're acting better than usual."

A bitter feeling welled up inside Lena as she pushed the plate of soup forward. "Just say it."

Joanna sat down and took a few bites, then sighed.

"You studied finance, but your family's company belongs to your younger brother. You probably don't even know where the office entrance is. Even Leah holds ten percent of the shares, yet you have nothing. When you graduated, you had the opportunity to intern at the company, but you refused—because working would mean you wouldn't have time to chase after Hayden. And now, Leah is doing well in the company. Everyone knows her as the second daughter of the Dawson family. But no one even remembers that there's an eldest daughter."

Lena took a few bites quietly and suddenly said, "Then I'll go to work at the Reid Group. Hasn't Hunter returned? I want to chase after him."

Joanna coughed violently.

Joanna choked on the soup in her mouth as if she had heard some incredible fairy tale.

She quickly grabbed a tissue and wiped the corners of her mouth.

"Didn't you use to hate Hunter the most? Because Hayden doesn't like his uncle, you also don't like Hunter. Every time Hunter's name is mentioned, you'd have this annoyed look on your face. Anyway, do you know what kind of man Hunter is? He graduated with dual degrees from Harford University at the age of eighteen, and at nineteen, he founded the largest acquisition company overseas and became a regular in Wall Street financial newspapers. If it weren't for the accident that crippled his legs two years ago, there wouldn't be a woman in the entire capital who wouldn't have a crush on him."

Lena remembered the pleasant voice she heard from that phone call and couldn't help but ask, "What does he look like?"

Joanna looked it up online and found a photo taken by a foreign media.

"Here you go."

The man in the photo was wearing a black suit. The buttons of his shirt were fastened up to the top. He had a somewhat restrained appearance, with a cold gaze as he looked towards the camera, resembling a sea surface on a freezing winter night as if hiding terrifying waves and storms.

This was the most stunning face Lena had ever seen in her life. He was even more handsome than Hayden by more than a hundred times.

Joanna chimed in, "It's a shame. After the car accident, he never returned to Westfell. There has been no news of him in domestic and foreign newspapers. With his face, even if he were disabled, there would still be a large number of women following him." She clicked her tongue.

Lena took a sip of soup and suddenly said, "Hayden said he is my boyfriend. I want to go to the Reid Group."

Joanna's expression was somewhat difficult to express. She raised her hand to rub at her brows.

"It's up to you whether you are going to the Reid Group for Hayden or for Hunter. If you can win Hunter over, I'll never lecture you again."
