Chapter 7: Late Night Sneaking

“Is she asleep now?” Lennox whispered, his breath warm near my ear.

I looked at Mia, who was curled up between us like a tiny kitten. She was breathing slow and steady, holding onto my nightgown.

“Yeah, I think so,” I whispered back, gently moving her hand off me.

Lennox slowly sat up, careful not to shake the bed too much. The moonlight made his chest kind of glow. I tried not to look, but wow... this man had muscles.

“You should go back to your room,” he said softly, not really looking at me. “She moves a lot when she sleeps.”

I nodded and carefully got out of bed, very aware that my nightgown was very short. I could feel him watching me, and my face felt hot. This nightgown barely covered anything.

“Goodnight,” I said, pulling the fabric down as much as I could.

“Goodnight, Cathy,” he said, voice a little rough.

I rushed back to my room and closed the door with a quiet sigh. My heart was beating fast. I didn’t know if it was because it was awkward… or something else.

I checked my phone. Just after midnight. Perfect time to do what I really came here for.

I couldn’t sleep anyway, so I might as well get to work. I needed to find evidence—anything that would prove what Lennox was doing with those weapons.

I sat on my bed for about 30 minutes, waiting for Lennox to fall asleep. Then I opened my door slowly and looked out. It was dark and quiet.

I remembered there were security cameras in the main parts of the house. I had to be careful. Shadowbird had given me a little device that could loop camera footage, but I'd have to get close enough to use it.

Barefoot, I stepped into the hallway, walking close to the wall. Remembering where I'd spotted cameras during Mia's tour. There was one at the top of the stairs and another in the main hall.

I got to the first camera and quickly stuck the gadget on it. It blinked for three seconds, then the light turned green. That meant it was now looping empty hallway footage.

The house was so quiet I could hear my heartbeat. I went downstairs, stepping only where the floor didn’t creak. My nightgown kept riding up, and I had to keep pulling it down. Not great spy clothes at all.

I knew Lennox’s office was downstairs, past the kitchen. I saw him go in there during dinner to take a phone call. If I was going to find proof, that’s probably where it would be.

The office door was dark wood with a fancy handle. I tried to turn it slowly, but of course, it was locked. I pulled out a tiny lockpick from the charm on my bracelet and started working on it.

I was so focused, I didn’t hear anyone coming until it was too late.

“Looking for something?”

I froze. Lennox was right behind me. I could feel his breath on my neck… and then I felt something else—something hard pressing against my lower back through his pajama pants. My stomach flipped.

“I-I couldn’t sleep,” I said fast, hiding the lockpick in my hand. “I thought maybe you had some sleeping pills in your office.”

I tried to turn around, but Lennox placed both hands on the door, trapping me between him and the wood. I could feel how warm he was behind me. My nightgown felt way too thin right now.

“So you were trying to break into my office?” he said in a low, serious voice. “Just for sleeping pills?”

I swallowed hard. “The door was locked. I just thought—”

“What are you really doing down here, Cathy?” He was so close now that his lips brushed my ear when he spoke. “Or is that even your real name?”

My heart was racing. Did he know the truth? “What do you mean?”

“I mean,” he said, moving even closer, his body pressing into mine, “I don’t know who you really are.”

I had to do something fast. Before I could think, I turned and kissed him.

For a second, he didn’t do anything. Then he let out a low groan and kissed me back—hard. It wasn’t gentle at all. It felt like he’d been holding it in for days.

His hands left the door and grabbed my waist. He turned me around fast so I was facing him. I dropped the lockpick as he pushed me back against the door, still kissing me. His tongue slid into my mouth, and it made my legs feel weak.

I kept telling myself this was just to distract him. I needed to stay in control. But my body didn’t care. My chest felt tight, and I could feel the heat growing between my legs.

He pulled back, breathing hard. “We shouldn’t—”

“We should,” I whispered, pulling him close again. I had to keep him from asking more questions.

He let out a growl and picked me up, holding my butt in his hands. I wrapped my legs around him, and I could feel how hard he was against my center. Only the thin material of my panties and his pajama pants separated us.

He carried me away from the office, through the quiet house, kissing my neck the whole time. I knew I should be thinking about the mission, about how to get into his office… but all I could feel was the heat between my legs.

When we got to my room, he kicked the door closed and laid me on the bed. The moonlight came through the window, just enough to see his face. His eyes looked dark and full of want.

“Are you sure?” he asked in a rough voice.

No, I wasn’t. This wasn’t part of the plan. But my body said yes.

“Yes,” I whispered, reaching for him.

That’s all he needed. He pulled my nightgown off in one quick move, leaving me in just my black lace panties. His eyes ran over my body like he was starving.

“Damn,” he whispered. “You look so good.”

He put his mouth on my chest, licking around my nipple before sucking it. I gasped and lifted my back off the bed.

“Ohhh,” I moaned as he moved to the other side and did the same.

His hand slid down over my stomach, slipping into my panties. When he touched me, I was already embarrassingly wet.

“God, you’re soaking,” he said with a groan, sliding one finger inside me.

“Ahhh,” I cried out, moving my hips toward his hand.

He added another finger and moved them slowly in and out, while his thumb rubbed that sensitive spot. It felt so good I could barely think straight.

“I wanted you since the first time I saw you in that lingerie,” he said, his voice low and rough. “It’s been making me go crazy.”

I should’ve been thinking clearly, figuring out if he suspected me. But I wasn’t. I was too busy pulling down his pajama pants, needing to feel more of him.

He stood up just for a second to take them off, and then he was fully naked. He looked even hotter than I imagined—muscular but not bulky, with a line of dark hair going down to his hard length.

He grabbed my panties and pulled them down my legs. Then he got on top of me again, his warm skin touching mine. He kissed me hard as he got between my legs.

I felt the tip of him right at my entrance, and for a second, I remembered— the condoms were still in my bathroom.

But before I could say a word, he pushed inside me all the way with one big move.

“Ohhh god,” I moaned. The way he filled me made me forget everything else.

“Fuck, you feel so good,” he groaned, staying still for a bit. “So tight.”

Then he started moving, pulling out almost all the way before pushing in again. Every thrust made me feel so good. I wrapped my legs around him, wanting him deeper.

“Ahh—Yes, just like that,” I gasped when he hit the right spot. “Right there.”

He went faster, breathing hard. One of his hands moved between us, and he started rubbing my clit in circles, matching the way he moved inside me.

“Ahhh, oh god, yes,” I moaned, my nails digging into his back.

“Say it,” he said, his voice deep and rough. “I wanna hear you say it.”

“Please—,” I breathed out. “Please don’t stop.”

He groaned and pressed his face into my neck. “I’m not gonna last much longer,” he said, moving faster. “You feel too good.”

I was almost there too, the feeling inside me getting stronger and tighter. Every move he made got me closer.

“I’m gonna come,” I gasped. “Ohhh, I’m coming!”

“Yes,” he growled, going harder. “Come for me.”

The pleasure hit me all at once, making my whole body shake as I cried out his name. My inner walls clenched around him, and with a final deep thrust, he stiffened above me.

“Fuck, Cathy,” he groaned, his length pulsing inside me as he came.

It wasn't until I felt the warmth of his release that I remembered about the condoms again. Too late now.

We fell back together, both breathing hard. Slowly, my mind started to clear, and the truth hit me. What did I just do? This wasn’t the plan. Sure, I was supposed to get close to him—but not like this.

Still, when he pulled me into his arms and I lay on his chest, I didn’t feel bad. That’s what scared me the most. It felt really good... even though I knew it was all wrong.

“Stay with me tonight,” he said softly, already half asleep.

I nodded, not saying anything. As he fell asleep, I stared at the ceiling, thinking too much. What did this mean for the plan? For me? Why did part of me feel satisfied… but also kinda guilty?

After a while, I got tired too and fell asleep in his arms.

---

“Good morning, Cathy!”

I woke up, confused. That was Mia’s voice—but not from beside me. I sat up fast and realized a bunch of things: I was naked, I was alone in bed, and Mia was knocking on the door, not inside the room.

“Uh, one second!” I shouted, grabbing my nightgown from the floor and putting it on. All the stuff from last night came rushing back, and I felt my cheeks burn.

I opened the door and saw Mia bouncing with excitement in the hallway. “Come eat breakfast with me! Grace made pancakes!”

“That sounds great,” I said, trying to act normal. “Just gonna take a quick shower and change, okay?”

“Okay, hurry!” she said, skipping away. “I’ll wait for you!”

I shut the door and leaned on it, breathing deep. What did I just get into?

The shower helped a bit. I felt a little more normal. I changed into jeans and a t-shirt from my bag—thankfully, Shadowbird hadn’t replaced all my clothes with lingerie.

When I came downstairs, Mia was already at the table, happily pouring way too much syrup on her pancakes.

“There you are!” she said when she saw me. “I waited forever!”

I smiled and sat next to her. “Sorry, sleepyhead. I guess you're an early bird.”

“Why weren’t you in Daddy’s bed when I woke up?” she asked, looking at me with big innocent eyes. “I thought we were having a sleepover.”

I almost spit out my coffee. “Oh, um, I went back to my room. Remember? I told you I snore.”

She laughed, then pointed at my neck with her sticky finger. “What’s that? You got a bruise!”

My hand flew to my neck. I touched the sore spot. A hickey. Great.

“Oh, uh, I bumped into the door last night,” I said, trying to fix my hair to hide it.

“Does it hurt?” she asked, worried.

“Nope, I’m okay,” I said quickly. “Hey, where’s your daddy?”

Mia shrugged and looked a little sad. “He always goes to work super early. He leaves before I wake up most days.”

“Oh,” I said, kinda surprised. “Will he be home for dinner?”

“Sometimes,” she said, moving her pancake around. “But most nights he comes home really late, after I'm sleeping. We don't eat dinner together a lot.”

That made my chest feel heavy. Poor Mia. And Lennox had just left this morning like nothing happened? After everything?

“Well,” I said, trying to sound happy, “we can have fun together today, just us girls. What do you want to do?”

Mia started telling me all the fun stuff she wanted to do. While she talked, I kept thinking about Lennox. Why did he just leave? Was he feeling weird about what happened? Or was this just how he was—go to work early and leave his daughter behind?

More importantly… what did this mean for my mission? I messed up last night. I didn’t get into his office. But I was already in his house now. Part of his life. I’d find another way in.

And next time, I’d be smarter. No more getting lost in kisses or touches that felt way too real. I had to stay sharp.

Even if part of me still felt warm from last night.

“Do we really have to do this now, Shadowbird? Midnight meetings are seriously getting old,” I said with a sigh as I sat in the cold metal chair across from my boss. The room felt like a freezer—typical for this secret basement place. I rubbed my arms and wondered why spy places always had to feel like Antarctica. Maybe they thought cold air made us smarter or something?Shadowbird didn’t even look up from her tablet. “Nice of you to show up, Phantom.”Ugh. I hated that name. It made me sound like a ghost or some weird legend. But I guess that’s the point. I sneak in, grab the info, and vanish. No mess, no drama. I’ve done twenty missions in four years. Never failed. Never slipped up.“This better be worth dragging me away from my Netflix binge,” I said, leaning back in the chair. “It was just getting good.”Shadowbird finally looked up and gave me one of her classic cold stares. “When do you ever get to the good part, Vale?
