"Tomorrow? Are you sure?" "Hm," Cathy nodded. "Mr. Declan said he would see you tomorrow afternoon, after he returned from his business trip. Moreover, recently many employees have been suffering from flu, even though work is piling up. We are short of nurses." I feel moved. This is the second day after I signed the divorce papers and officially became a widow, but Cathy was really trying to make me move on faster. "I hope Mr. Declan will place you in the same clinic as me, not at the branch office." I patted my forehead. "Ah! How stupid of me!" "Why?" Cathy asked. "You've forgotten how to treat patients because you've been playing house with that bastard Peter for so long?" I frowned when I heard my friend's teasing. "I left several books at home, they were in a suitcase on top of my cupboard. They were practical manuals for patient care, summaries of lots of important lecture material," I said glumly. "Let's go and get those books. You can study a little more before starting work," said Cathy enthusiastically. "I'll take you there." I took a deep breath. "Uh, I'm too lazy to go back to the house." Cathy put her arm around my shoulders and squeezed gently. "Don't worry. I'll beat them up if they dare bother you when you come." "When? Tomorrow, after coming home from the interview with Mr. Declan?" "Yes. I will ask permission to swap shifts with my friend later." I intend to clean Chaty's house today, while she goes to work. I don't have anything else to do until it's time for me to start working, who knows when. I'm not a spender and even though I didn't work formally during my marriage to Peter, I still earned money by being a freelance writer writing health articles on several internet sites. I processed the nursing knowledge I gained while studying and put it into written form, so that it became a source of income which, although not large, allowed me to save. I once worked as a nurse in a private clinic, but the shift work schedule made it difficult for me and Peter to meet, even though we were just married, so finally Peter asked me to stop working. Moreover, at that time Peter had started to get a position at the company where he worked. Now, I have to sharpen my memory of the nursing knowledge that I learned in college, so that I can return to work and support myself. I was just starting to take out the blankets and sheets to wash them in the big tub in the yard, when a shiny black Roll Royce stopped right in front of the fence. A burly man, with sunglasses and a black suit, came out of the passenger door next to the driver. He stood in front of the car and looked around carefully. I don't like talking to strangers, but his car is parked right in front of the gate, so I think I need to reprimand him and tell him that this house is occupied and he can't park his luxury car carelessly. I turned off the tap that was flowing water into the tub, then approached the man in front of the fence. "Good afternoon, sir, could you--" The man took off his sunglasses and gave me a half-body bow. "Ms. Leora Evani Jeremiah," said the man. "I'm glad to finally be able to meet you in person." What? "W-who are you?" I asked confused. "Y-you know my name?" "Of course, Ms. Leora," said the man with a friendly smile and his attitude remained polite. I felt awkward because I didn't know him and didn't know why he was acting so polite as if I was his boss. "But you're wrong," I said nervously. "My name is just Leora Evani, there is no Jeremiah behind it." The man smiled sweetly, then knocked gently on the glass window of the passenger door. The door opened and a man came down and smiled at me. He is very handsome, his body is tall and athletic, he has exotic tan skin and his appearance conveys the definition of the words expensive and luxurious in every object attached to his body. I took a step back, when he waved at me. "Hi, sister!" I think I'm dealing with strange people and the hairs on the back of my neck are crawling. Just as I decided to turn around to run home and call Cathy, the phone in my trouser pocket rang. I took the object and hoped it was Cathy, but it turned out to be Marry Ann, my adoptive mother. "Mom!" I said quickly when I received the call. "There are people--" "Leo, honey, have you met your grandfather and twins?" asked Marry in a loud, cheerful voice. I stared at the phone in my hand, confused. What is Marry talking about? Did she make the wrong number? "What... Uh, who? What do you mean?" I was confused. "Hm? How strange," said Marry. "They should have arrived at Cathy's house by now to meet you. You're still at Cathy's house, right? She said you weren't going anywhere today." "Mom, please, what are you talking about," I said, increasingly confused. The man approached me and took the phone from my hand. "May I?" Without waiting for my answer, he spoke to Marry. "Hello, Mrs. Marry, I just arrived and Leo looks very surprised." "...." "No, it's okay. I'll explain everything to her right away. Yes, okay, thank you, Mrs. Marry." He turned off the phone and handed the flat object back to me. I looked at him questioningly. "Leo, can we talk now? Grandpa is waiting for us at home and he can't wait to meet you," said the man cheerfully. My head is spinning and I feel dizzy. Am I being pranked? By whom? Why? "Who? Grandpa? I don't have a grandfather. I'm even an orphan!" I said in an annoyed tone. "Do you want to trick me? And how do you know my adoptive mother?" "Oh, of course we know her," said the man lightly. "She's our important informant. And of course you have a grandfather. You're an orphan, but you're not alone." "Who is my grandfather?" I asked weakly. "Jeremiah Kent IX," said the man calmly. "You must have heard his name." I was flabbergasted.Frank Lawson's face turned bright red, after he heard what Harold said throughout his conversation with me. "That bastard, he thought he could make my sister his money machine," Frank cursed while clenching his fists. "Did you know, that the York family is in huge debt because the future head of the family is addicted to gambling?" "Really?" I asked in surprise. "I didn't think it was that bad. How did you know?" "I didn't like Harold, since the first time my sister brought him home. But he's a sweet-talker and his behavior is perfect, in front of my family. I hired a private investigator to investigate him and just got the results two days ago," Frank said with a gloomy face. "But, he just won a bet on a stallion named Harry Potter?" I said. "And his winnings were quite big." "Yes," Frank said. "He immediately deposited the money to the loan shark who lent him the money a few months ago, because the loan shark had started calling his mother and younger siblings to collect the m
"No wonder you are so easy to throw away millions of money, it turns out you are the famous Mr. Evran Jeremiah," said Harold. I actually felt uncomfortable with the compliments he threw, but forced a smile for the sake of achieving my goal. I added more wine to his glass. He turned out to be a low-tolerance drinker, but he was high on style. Only three glasses in and he was already looking like a wreck. I stared at my favorite bottle of wine with satisfaction. It had been worth the long wait to open it."It's nothing," I said. "You will marry Emily?" I asked while pointing at Emily with my chin. "A very good choice. She is very beautiful and charming." Harold looked at Emily who was talking to another woman not far from our table. He is chuckled. "Actually, it was my mother's choice," said Harold half whispering. "I hope this time she can give me a son, unlike my previous wife." "Oh, have you been married before?" I asked."Yes. She is a beautiful woman, but she is poor. At firs
"Uncle Eva!" The little girl's scream behind me made me turn around spontaneously. Soraya ran towards me while waving something in her hand. I caught her little body and carried her easily. She was so small and light. "Hi, what's that in your hand?" I asked while poking the tip of her sharp nose. "It's a potato," Soraya said while opening her fist. "Look. Uncle Lindon said that this potato was scattered from its mother. It was impatient and climbed up, so in the end it couldn't grow properly." "Oh, poor thing. It must be because she was naughty, that's why she became like this, right?" I said pretending to be sad. "Yes. But, I'm not naughty. I obey everything my mother says, so I can stay healthy and grow big," Soraya said seriously. "Good," I praised her while massaging the tip of her nose gently. "A good child will always obey her mother. Oh yeah, do you want to go with uncle to my garage this afternoon?" "What's going on at your garage?" Soraya asked with shining eyes. "
Lenore wouldn't let me take her home and I respected her wishes. I told my driver to take her home and only asked her to let Elena know when she got home. "Why didn't you take her home?" Elena asked, when Lenore had already texted her that she had arrived home. "I thought you took them to a theme park?" "Yes. She didn't want me to take her home," I said. "I didn't want to force her. I was worried she wouldn't feel comfortable, because there was never anything between us since long ago, right?" "You said you liked her," Elena said confused. "Yes, I do. I not only like her, but I also love her. But, I shouldn't force her to have the same feelings as me. If she doesn't feel comfortable with what I feel for her, I'd better stay away." Elena sighed. "I'm worried about her. She's carrying all her problems and suffering by herself. Even her parents don't know anything. They think Lenore is fine." "She said that her ex-in-law and her sister-in-law are still after her. Why? Isn't she div
Lenore stared into the distance in front of her, not knowing what was on her mind right now. "If it's hard for you to tell me, then you don't have to," I said in the softest tone possible. I didn't want to burden Lenore. After all, her story was hers. I was no one to force her to tell it and make her uncomfortable. "Uh, I... I'll tell you," Lenore said. "The gist of it, at least." I nodded, feeling sure that she would see my head move even though she wasn't looking at me. "After graduating from high school, I received a scholarship to Yale, but my parents went bankrupt and my grandfather was seriously ill, so my mother had to borrow money from a loan shark to pay for the hospital bills," Lenore said. "I forgot about Yale and worked in a textile factory, but that didn't last long. The son of the factory owner was interested in me and he was willing to pay all my family's debts if I would become his wife." The beginning of the story alone made me upset. She had a friend as rich a
"E-evran... Th-this room, uh... Too luxurious," Lenore said in a squeaky voice like she was scared. "It must be very expensive. I d-don't deserve to be here...." I glared at her. "Who said that? Why are you degrading yourself? You and Soraya, you deserve to be here. Or... Do you want another room? Larger? More spacious? Come on, then! There's a presidential suite on the top floor. Come on, let's move there." I prepared to lift Soraya's body who was already lying on the bed, sleeping soundly. She must be exhausted. After taking them away from the reception, I took them to an all-you-can-eat restaurant. Soraya ate a lot and really enjoyed everything I offered, while Lenore looked anxious, until I forced her to eat too. After leaving the restaurant, I took them to one of my mother's department stores and told one of the staff to get whatever Soraya pointed at. Meanwhile, Lenore was busy preventing her daughter, until I held her hand and took her to the women's clothing boutique sect
