CHAPTER 19

          Even if Genie had been awake for more than 3 hours, they still were late for breakfast. But it wasn’t her fault. Ann and Henry were just leaving the dining room as they were entering.

“You look like you didn't get much sleep last night, my friend,” Henry teased Phoenix. “I could use those bags you're sporting under your eyes like as floatation devices.”

          Genie wouldn't have been quite so blunt, but Henry was right. Phoenix looked as if he'd been out on a marathon the entire night. She had no idea what time he'd eventually turned in, but he'd still been having a drink at midnight, sitting silently in an armchair in the dark.
