Chapter 3

Author: Northern Slumber
Three years had passed since my divorce, and it was the third year since I had re-entered the workforce.

The project I was in charge of made the company a lot of money.

With the project bonus, I signed my daughter up for the piano and dance classes she had always wanted to take.

After being reborn, I paid great attention to my daughter's material and psychological needs.

I didn't want her to be easily moved by a boy's cheap concern in the future due to the lack of family love and the lack of material and psychological fulfillment.

To my surprise, I saw Jason again for the first time in three years at the entrance of the youth activity center.

Jason was also surprised to see me and Anna. Noticing my daughter's practice clothes, he scoffed and said, "You sure are willing to spend money on her, Luna! These extracurricular classes aren't cheap. Are you really trying to make something out of trash?"

Jason's cutting words made my daughter swallow the word "Daddy" that she was about to call out.

She looked at Jason in confusion, not understanding why her father disliked her.

With a frown, I warned him seriously, "Jason, Anna is your daughter too! Even if you don't like her, you don't have to talk about her like that!"

I had been constantly educating Anna about Jason in the last three years.

I feared that the sensitive Anna would trap herself in the mindset of "how to make her father like her", leading to her acting obedient in order to please him.

Therefore, the first thing I taught her was to accept that her father didn't love her.

Accepting that a parent may not love you is a problem many adults can't solve.

But I wanted Anna to know that she didn't have to please anyone or stand for unprovoked malice.

Anna had grown a lot in the past three years, in all aspects.

Now, hearing Jason's malicious remark, she only showed a brief disappointment before telling Jason righteously, "I'm not a wild hen! I'm Mommy's daughter, Anna Combs!"

"You even changed her surname!"

Jason snorted and continued, "Luna, since we were married for seven years, let me give you a piece of advice. Some children will always be inferior because of their genes. They're hopeless! No matter how hard you try to educate and cultivate them, you'll only end up raising an ungrateful wretch! Be careful, or you might end up raising a pregnant teenage girl who doesn't respect herself and runs away with a hooligan!"

I couldn't stand that smug face anymore. I raised my arm to slap him.

But my action was suddenly interrupted by a child's voice.

"Mommy?"

It was Shawn, the son whom I hadn't seen for three years.

Jason warily picked him up.

"I'm warning you, Luna, the court awarded me custody of Shawn. Don't even think about abducting my genius son!"

That was the reason why Jason had been preventing me from visiting Shawn for the past three years.

The current Shawn was no different from the way he looked in my memory. He had an innocent face, beautiful round eyes, and a mouth that was adept at telling lies.

I suddenly had a bad feeling. What was Jason doing at the youth activity center with Shawn?

Hearing my question, Jason smiled confidently.

"What else? For classes, of course! My son inherited the best genes from me, so he's way smarter than other kids his age! I heard there's a new programming class at the youth activity center, so I brought him here to enroll. My son will be going straight to MIT in the future, so he must start learning these skills from a young age!"

I was shocked.

"Shawn is only three years old! Jason, are you crazy?!"

Hearing what Anna said, I suddenly understood the significance of my hard work over the years. The service at my apartment complex turned out to be very efficient! After Jason was sent away, Anna asked me hesitantly, "Mom, was I too heartless?"I shook my head with a smile. Over the years, Anna's feelings towards Jason had always been complicated. On one hand, she detested his irresponsibility as a father, yet on the other, she couldn't completely forget him due to their biological connection. To be honest, I feel the same way about Shawn.Even though I now knew the truth about my previous life, when I recalled how he had actively let go of my hand and jumped that day, I still couldn't move on."Anna, you did nothing wrong. Family ties can sometimes be the most inexplicable things in the world. But remember, you must first love yourself; everything else comes after."-In late September, Anna moved to the capital for college.Jason, who had disappeared for a long time, sudden

Jason was rushed to the hospital.Because of the trauma of the college admission party from my previous life, I had specifically instructed the banquet hall to avoid sharp knives and forks this time. Therefore, the knife Shawn used to stab Jason was made from plastic, so it only injured Jason's spleen and stomach and did not endanger his life.Anna's college admission party ended in this absurd manner.I felt guilty and suggested holding another party to make it up to her.But Anna said it was fine. She told me she had a dream recently where she had two children with no degree and no job. She lived under Jason's watchful eye, becoming someone entirely unrecognizable to herself.Anna said she had a new life now, so everything's good; she was content. After the incident, Jason turned his attention to me and Anna again, perhaps because he realized he had lost everything. For the first time in this life, he realized that he still had a daughter. He started to intercept Anna on he

Jason was shocked."What are you talking about, son? H-how can you think of me like that? No one in the world loves you more than I do, and I've always wished for your success!""Stop deceiving yourself, Jason Langford. You don't love me. You love the talent that you imagined I had! Why don't you take a piss and look at yourself? A waste who doesn't even have a high school diploma is dreaming of his son being a genius. I think you're the biggest fool in the world!"Shawn held the microphone and berated Jason with fervor.Jason fumed with anger."I was wrong about you, Shawn. You carry some of Luna's inferior genes, so there's no hope of success for you! I fed you and took care of you for years, yet you disappointed me..."I had no idea which word struck Shawn's nerves. He grabbed a cake knife, charged at Jason like a madman and plunged the knife deep into Jason's abdomen.Once, twice...Jason was soon covered in blood.Shawn, fueled by anger, looked ferocious, and none of the

Whoosh! The lights went out, casting the entire venue into darkness, including the big screen that had yet to load the scores.Jason yelled angrily, "Luna! What's the meaning of this? Are you playing dirty because you can't beat me? Turn the lights back on immediately, or else!"What does this have to do with me?After comforting my frightened daughter, I was just about to check on the situation when the lights in the venue turned back on.Shawn stood not far away, still out of breath, seeming to have just arrived.Seeing Shawn, Jason stopped yelling at me. He introduced Shawn to the audience."Everyone, this is my son, the top student, Shawn Langford! Don't be surprised when you see his score! I'm sure MIT will call with a scholarship offer soon! My son only managed to achieve this because he inherited my excellent genes! It has nothing to do with that woman over there!"Lost in his fantasy of glory, Jason completely failed to notice the darkening expression on his son's face.

Ten years passed in the blink of an eye. My daughter Anna got accepted into her favorite university. Her grades weren't outstanding, but at least she had developed in a well-rounded manner and found a major she loved, which was art design. She even got an early admission. At the party I threw for Anna, Jason showed up uninvited. He ridiculed Anna and I, spouting the same old lines about lacking quality genes and being mediocre for life.To be honest, I never wished for my children to become top students. Even when I raised Shawn, I merely corrected his bad habits. He got into MIT purely on his own effort. To see the change in trajectory in Anna's life and to see her grow up healthy and happy was more than good enough for me.When neither Anna nor I paid him any mind, Jason brought up a big piece of news."Shawn also took the SAT this year!"He had crashed Anna's party to publicly announce Shawn's exam results. He wanted to prove he was the more successful educator!Over the pa

"So what if he's only three years old?"Jason was immersed in his dream of having a successful son."You can already tell how a kid will be as an adult when they're three, and how they'll be as an old person when they're seven. My son is smart, of course I can't let his talent go to waste! Let me tell you, in addition to programming, I've also signed him up for Olympiad classes, computer classes, and preschool physics competitions. Luna, not everyone is as mediocre as your daughter!"I was furious."You're gonna suffocate him! He's only three years old! You should be cultivating his self-care ability and his morals. His body can't handle this many after-school classes!"In my previous life, I raised Shawn for over ten years, so I knew him best. His eyes looked dazed and unfocused, which was an obvious sign that his body was working beyond its capacity.I recalled hearing from a mutual friend that Shawn had pushed a girl in his class into a pond during a field trip and almost dro
