We ate our meal, chatting about everything and nothing; It was nice to just forget my problems and relax. I knew that was what Jason was after and I couldn’t help but appreciate him more. I can’t begin to imagine life without him and I’m not just saying that because I have a crush on him, being without Jason would definitely throw my life off balance. I guess you can say he makes me feel whole.
Is that how Dad feels about Abigail? Either that or something way stronger. Like soulmates!
“You ready?” I nodded and he took my hand again while we left the restaurant. Either Jason is naive or he’s just very good at pretending, there’s no way he doesn’t notice that holding hands and going to restaurants makes us look like a couple. Coming from a girl who got all her romantic ideas from novels. Either way, I was loving the appearance; besides, Jason could leave for school at any moment.
“How long will you be here?&rdq
“I didn’t mean to.” I burst into tears, reaching over to hug him tight. He hugged me back. “I’m really sorry for being a brat, I wish I can everything I said back.”“It’s okay, my child, It’s fine.”“It’s not!” I drew back. “I have to make it right, I have to bring Abigail back.”“Claire...”“I can find her, please just let me try.” He shrugged.“I’ve called everyone, no one knows where she is. Antonio said he’s tried but she’s just gone.” He exhaled and pinched the tip of his nose. “This feels like when I couldn’t find you and your mom anymore. I’m worried about Abigail, she hasn’t done this before and she’s been in a pretty bad shape since you got into a coma. She told me... she told me she’ll give up on our love if you ask her to, as long as you’re awake and heal
Just like when I went to Los Angeles with my Aunt and cousins, the plane only had us onboard, when I say “us” I mean, my Dad, Antonio and I. Is it a thing for rich people? Traveling on an aircraft alone? Where’s the fun in that?“No nuisance, that’s the fun.” I turned a frown to Antonio, he could read my mind again. His idea of bonding was to teach me stuff about psychics and now my mind is an open book to him again. Besides that, we could communicate without saying anything and we can share visions too. Well, I guess that’s useful... right?“Get out of my head.”“Make me.” He smirked. I so badly wanted to slap that smirk off.“This is what you wanted, right? To get into my head? Now you can’t tell me how to block you out.” He chuckled.“If you want me out of your head, you’ll figure a way to block me out.”“You...”&ldquo
Dad wasted no time in getting on one knee and opening a ring-box, the ring we picked out was right there! How did he get it so fast?‘The dude is rich, what do you expect?’ I chose to ignore Antonio. I focused on Dad and Abigail; Abigail’s eyes were already glittering with tears.“Abigail...” Dad began, holding the ring-box up to her. “I know I’ve done this before, but it was never proper and I didn’t keep my promise to you. We’ve been through a lot together and we’ve come a long way too together. I know my love for you is bigger than the whole world, yet it surprises me by growing even bigger everyday.” He paused, taking out the ring. “Will you make all my dreams come through and marry me... this time?” Abigail giggled. She opened up her mouth to reply, but then she shut it and turned to me, as if seeking permission.“Urh, I think the word you’re looking for is ‘Yes&
“It’s true!” James put in. What in the actual hell? Did they brainwash him?“What did they do to you?”“Nothing. They didn’t hurt me, I promise! They were nice all the time.” He was actually smiling, which was getting me more confused.‘You should read the girl. The only way to find out if they are saying the truth is to read her past.’ Antonio had a point but how do I go about doing it?“Look, I don’t believe you one bit. Gimme your hand.” Jacey ordered. For some reason, she’s especially mean to Tessa. She made to take the girl’s hand but Tessa moved away.“Don’t touch me!”‘Claire, she hates Jacey and you guys are the only ones who can read pasts. Get her to give you her hand.’ I nodded to Antonio’s suggestion. It’s really amazing how someone can communicate secretly; I was loving every bit of it.&lsqu
“Come on, Tessa, back to bed.” Catherine led the kid back to her room and tucked her in bed.“Who was that man?”“No one you should worry about.” Catherine replied tiredly.“Was he in an accident? Why was he covered in blood?”“Go to sleep, Tessa. I’ll answer all your questions tomorrow.”“Okay...” Tessa’s face fell. “But will he stay here? Who really is he?”“Oh boy!” Catherine muttered, exhaling. “His name is Fred... or urh Frank, he changed his name.”“Why?”“Well, he wanted a fresh start, I guess. The thing is, he’s my cousin but then he got a job and moved to Mexico where he met his beautiful wife Anna.”“Ooh, where is she?” Tessa seemed interested, but I didn’t want to know how that story would end; she’ll definitely feel bad that her Dad blame
“You’ll be fine, just imagine that she’s your beloved... James, was it?” She turned around triumphantly and made for the door, grabbing her purse and keys on her way out. Frank had a sour look on his face, like he could throw up any second. And the object of his disgust chose that moment to walk into the kitchen.“Good morning!” Tessa said cheerfully to him, climbing a stool. Frank didn’t reply, he gulped down the contents of the soda can and threw the it into the trash can, walking away.“Wait! I need breakfast.” Tessa called after him but he totally ignored her as he made for the sitting room, lying down on the couch.“Hmm...” Tessa jumped down from the stool and went over to stand next to him.“I need breakfast.” She repeated. Frank kept his eyes glued to the ceiling.“I can’t make cereal for myself because I always make a mess and Cathy hates it when I mak
It was really late at night when they returned in a cab. Catherine helped the weak Tessa down from the cab but when she offered to carry her in, Tessa refused.“You sure you don’t want me to?”“Uh-huh, I’m fine.” Tessa gingerly went for the door and into the house; Catherine was on her heels. They both stopped to look at Frank who was sitting on the rug, looking like his whole life was over.“Tessa? Why don’t you go up and get ready for bed, I’ll be there to tuck you in.”“Urh... okay.” Tessa was hesitant, but she pushed herself towards the stairs.“Can you manage by yourself?” Catherine called after her.“Yes.” She waited until she heard Tessa’s room door shut, before she gave her attention to Frank.“We got you dinner.” She said calmly to him. “Come with me.” When he didn’t move, she actually gra
“...ess so.” I was staring back at Tessa. I was back in the hospital and everyone was around me but I wanted to go back to Tessa’s past, I needed to know more about Renee.‘Claire?’ Antonio called in my head.‘How long was I gone?’ I asked, telepathically.‘How long? You just took her hand.’‘It felt like months.’ He chuckled in my head.‘Trust me, if it takes that long to read a person, no one would want to do it.’“Are you okay?” I looked back into Tessa’s eyes, so glad I got to meet her. Now I’m one step closer to catching my mother’s killer.‘I think I found out who murdered my mother...’ I said to Antonio.‘I know, did you forget you’re an open book now? Hold her hand with the both of yours and finish that vision.’ I mentally nodded and placed my other hand on Tessa’s.The v
