CHAPTER TWELVE – ASHES AND ALLEGIANCES

The ridge cracked beneath our boots, flames roaring up like a living creature determined to swallow us whole. The spark plug, teetering on the edge, sent a shiver down my spine. One wrong move and it could ignite everything—Bishop’s plan, the ridge, and anyone foolish enough to be caught in its path.

Luca’s hand gripped mine tightly. “Riven… we’re going to die!”

“Not today,” I growled, dragging him down behind a jagged rock. Every muscle in my body was tense, every nerve alive with adrenaline. My eyes flicked toward the ridge. Bishop was there, a shadow among shadows, smirking as if he had orchestrated the world itself.

“You think you can stop me?” he called, his voice carrying over the roar of the fire. “You’re too late. Too weak. Too predictable.”
