Chapter 3

مؤلف: Grogan
Layla was shocked by my words, but the elevator doors before me remained stubbornly closed.

It was taking too long.

I frowned and looked at Layla. "Do you have Dr. Chase's number?"

After a few seconds of hesitation, she recited the number to me.

I immediately dialed the number, but all of my calls were rejected.

A minute later, my phone suddenly started vibrating wildly. It wasn't due to Sylvia calling me back but message notifications from Wessen Hospital's staff group chat.

Sylvia had posted a screenshot of my incoming phone call to the chat. Underneath the image, she typed, "Stop harassing me, you perverted stalker! I'm working! If you call me again, I'll call the police immediately!"

The group members were instantly sent into a frenzy.

"Isn't that the new intern?"

"He's really got guts to hit on Dr. Chase on his very first day here."

Layla looked worriedly at me.

I sneered and tagged Sylvia directly in the group chat. "You diagnosed the patient incorrectly. There's a pulsation artifact on the CT scan's third slice. It's not an ordinary meningioma. The patient will definitely die if you operate on him according to your plan!"

The flood of messages in the chat immediately died down.

Three seconds later, Sylvia called me on my phone.

"You damn freak!" she shouted. "Just because you couldn't get my attention, you're now spreading malicious rumors about me! You're even cursing my patient! Do you even know how high the success rate of my surgeries is?"

"It'll only take three minutes for you to verify the truth of my claims, no?" I asked calmly.

Sylvia sneered. "Three minutes? Do you understand what it means to delay a surgery by three minutes?"

I heard Zoe's voice through the phone. "That intern is truly nasty! He's actually trying to ruin your reputation! Dr. Chase, just ignore him. The anesthesia has taken effect, so let's go on with the operation."

"Keep dreaming, loser!" Sylvia said coldly.

Startled, I was just about to continue trying to stop them when she hung up on me.

"Shit, we're out of time," Layla muttered. She immediately opened the nearby fire exit door before looking firmly at me. "Let's take the stairs!"

However, before we could reach the operating room, someone stopped me at the entrance.

Layla stammered, "D-Dr. Farrow…"

The man was Michael Farrow, head of the neurology department and our superior.

"Layla, what are you doing? I told you to bring the intern to my office to report in, but you brought him to disrupt Dr. Chase's surgery instead!" Michael snapped.

I frowned. "You can't let Dr. Chase perform the surgery!"

Michael's expression changed from anger to mockery. "Dr. Chase is among the top 50 surgeons in the country, while you're just a fresh intern who knows nothing. How dare you challenge her diagnosis?"

I ignored him, rushed to the operating room's observation area, and pushed aside the doctor who was currently watching the real-time footage.

On the screen, Sylvia was already standing before the operating table. She drew a line across the patient's skull, directly above the aneurysm.

I grabbed the microphone connected to the intercom and yelled, "Sylvia Chase, stop!"

Everyone in the operating room stopped moving for a moment.

Sylvia snapped her head up and glared at me through the observation window. "You again? Why won't you leave me alone?"

Beside her, Zoe screamed, "Where's security? Drag him away!"

The door to the observation room slammed open, and Michael rushed in, his face flushed.

"Xavier Russell! What do you think you're doing? Do you realize the consequences you'll face for causing trouble on your very first day of internship?"

Consequences?

I'd once taken responsibility for the lives of 300 people. What was disciplinary action from one department head in comparison?

"Sylvia, I order you to stop the surgery immediately!" I bellowed through the microphone.

Everyone was stunned. The entire observation room was silent.

Then, Sylvia's voice rang through the intercom. "The celebrity specialist here orders you to shut your damn mouth, idiot!"

She sneered at me through the camera before raising her scalpel.

It took a single stroke from her for the patient's blood to start gushing out, instantly soaking through the gauze.

A piercing alarm suddenly started blaring.

Zoe screamed, "Oh no! Dr. Chase! A hemorrhage! The patient is hemorrhaging!"

Sylvia's eyes widened in terror, and she stared dumbly at the patient, who was bleeding continuously.

In less than 20 minutes after Stanley ended the call, the door to the medical committee boardroom swung open. He quickly walked in and immediately spotted me. "It's good to see you again, Dr. Russell!"He bowed his head slightly toward me in utter deference. "I never would've thought you were staying under the radar at this hospital this entire time."Having the president of the Medical Association bow to me proved beyond a doubt that my title, "God's Hand," was well earned. Sylvia panicked, biting her lower lip so hard it bled. Michael and Zoe, who were standing beside her, went stiff, lacking the courage to even look up. Their arrogance, schemes, and false accusations proved utterly pathetic when stacked against true skill and status.Stanley reached out and took my hand in a steady grip.I tried to pull away a few times but couldn't. "You can let go now, Stanley.""I'm just worried that if I let go, you'll disappear on me again, Dr. Russell," he said, cracking a joke.Layla

"W-What did you just say?" Sylvia stood frozen on the spot, looking completely stunned.Stanley's mention of "God's Hand" echoed clearly across the entire boardroom, instantly shattering the dead silence. Every single committee member and staff member stood in absolute shock, turning to stare at me all at once."G-God's Hand? Does he mean the legendary doctor who performed open-field surgeries with minimal equipment on the front lines and saved hundreds of lives?""You've got to be kidding me! How could someone like that be at our hospital? Isn't Xavier just an intern?"Several senior committee members shot to their feet."He's God's Hand? You're telling me the world-famous, top doctor in the entire country is actually Xavier Russell?""I had no idea he was so young—and handsome, too!""It's no wonder he spotted Dr. Chase's misdiagnosis instantly! It turns out a high-profile figure was undercover as an intern this whole time!" There were surprised whispers erupting among the c

"Stop the recording!" Sylvia reached for my phone, trying to knock it away.I sidestepped effortlessly, stepped back, and slipped the phone into my pocket.Sylvia missed completely, stumbling into the podium. She clung to the edge with both hands to steady herself, leaned into the microphone, and frantically denied it. "That recording was taken out of context and edited! I did panic and asked for the people in the observation area for help when the emergency happened yesterday, but I was calling for Dr. Farrow!"She shot me a look of pure disgust and continued, "You're just an intern without a medical license! Why on earth would I ever ask you for help?"Michael froze for a moment, then took the opportunity to jump in. "That's right! Dr. Chase came to me for help first when the emergency broke out in the operating room. "Xavier, who was under my supervision, ignored my orders and insisted on rushing in himself. I tried repeatedly to stop him, but he wouldn't listen. Thankfully,

Standing at the podium, Sylvia's expression was cold as she said in an unyielding tone, "I was the lead surgeon throughout yesterday's operation, following all standard protocols. "It was just a routine bleed during the operation, but Xavier barged into the operating room without authorization, and without any permission, he forced his way into the surgical field and performed emergency intracranial hemostasis on his own!" She looked around the room and deliberately raised her voice. "Surgery is an art of precision and planning! You're an intern who hasn't even finished training, yet you were arrogant enough to change the emergency plan on your own! "You're lucky that nothing went wrong in the operating room. Otherwise, Mr. Garcia would have died. It would have humiliated the whole hospital and ruined the ceasefire agreement! Do you really think you can bear responsibility for that?"Before I could even respond, Zoe exclaimed indignantly, backing Sylvia up, "That's right! Mr. Ga

The smell of blood hadn't completely faded from the operating room yet.Sylvia was drenched in cold sweat, looking like someone who'd just been rescued from drowning.Seeing that I hadn't answered her question, she walked over and continued asking persistently, "Who exactly are you? I'm asking you a question! Do you not hear me?"Empty vessels made the most noise.I took off my blood-stained surgical gloves and walked away without so much as glancing at her.Furious at being completely ignored, Sylvia shouted after me, "Xavier Russell! Hold it right there!"The operating room door slid open soundlessly, and Layla walked quickly up to me, her eyes shining with admiration."Thank you so much for stepping in to save the operation just now!"I didn't expect Layla to be the one to express the gratitude that should have come from Sylvia. As I walked forward, I replied indifferently, "You helped me out too."Layla smiled at me with genuine appreciation. "Even experienced doctors woul

The heart rate monitor beeped wildly, and the entire monitoring screen's view of the surgery was wholly taken up by the sight of blood spurting from the patient's artery. It was complete chaos in the observation room as everyone rushed to the windows.Michael's face was deathly pale. He yelled fearfully, "Why did the patient suddenly start hemorrhaging? Didn't Dr. Chase say that the surgery was guaranteed to succeed?"Sylvia's hand trembled uncontrollably around the scalpel. It looked as if she was questioning her own judgment for the first time.Zoe scrambled to hand her a neurosurgical patty and hemostatic dressings. But even with the suction device turned to its maximum setting, the gushing of blood could not be stopped.I frowned. If they carried on like this, the patient was sure to die.I stared fixedly at the screen, silently working out a clear emergency response plan."Systolic blood pressure is dropping below 70! Heart rate is 142!" the anesthesiologist called out urge
