Chapter 2

Author: Tiptik
Alpha James lied to me again.

Because he didn’t come back soon at all.

I took a shower, but sleep wouldn’t come. So I sat on the living room carpet, staring blankly ahead.

Rowan’s voice was soft in my mind. “Clary, do you remember the first day we met him?”

Of course, I remembered.

The Moon Goddess assigns every werewolf their fated mate on their eighteenth birthday.

On my eighteenth birthday, the moonlight was especially bright.

I was sitting on the grass in the backyard, while Rowan hummed an off-key tune in my head.

Then, I caught his scent.

It was the scent of a powerful and commanding Alpha, carrying an authority that couldn’t be questioned.

I looked up.

Alpha James was standing just beyond the fence. He looked at me and reached out his hand.

Rowan screamed in my mind, “Clary! It’s him! It’s him! He’s your fated mate!”

In that moment, I felt like the luckiest she-wolf in the world. However, everything that came after proved just how naive I had been.

His family didn’t accept me. His friends mocked me. The rest of the pack looked at me differently.

So I rejected him.

James didn’t give up, though. Again and again, he confessed to me, coming closer on his own.

He even left the Northern Pack for me, staying with me in the Southern Pack.

In the end, my heart softened, and I agreed to be with him.

Sometime past midnight, rain began to fall outside the window.

With a click, the door unlocked. James walked in, carrying the chill of rain with him.

I could feel his exhaustion, his irritation, and a faint trace of guilt.

“Clary, you’re still awake?”

James sounded a little surprised. He came over to me, bending down to gently touch my cheek.

Then he lowered his head and pressed a kiss to my temple. “Baby, I need to head back north.

“You know my mom’s birthday is coming up.”

I lifted my head and stared at his face, catching every subtle change in his expression.

All of a sudden, the moment felt painfully ironic.

Was he really going back for his mother’s birthday? Or to comfort that Omega she-wolf?

“James, it’s raining outside.” I pointed toward the window.

A sudden flash of lightning tore across the dark sky.

It was a thunderstorm, the kind of weather I feared the most.

“I’m scared.”

I tugged at the corner of his shirt, my pale lips pressed into a thin line. I tilted my face up to look him in the eyes and at the small reflection of myself in his pupils.

The faint hope on her face, fragile like a flickering candle, made my eyes sting.

I was pregnant with his pup.

Six years together wasn’t something I could just let go of.

‘James, please don’t go.

‘Please, stay.’

I told myself silently.

If he stayed, if he chose to stay, I would forgive him.

However, he refused.

I turned around and saw her standing in the soft evening breeze. Her long hair was thick like seaweed, flowing behind her. She looked at me and smiled faintly, just like she would at an old friend.“Is she our daughter?”I pointed at the little one, cheeks puffed as she ate her candy.Clary shook her head, a hint of pride in her expression. “No, she’s my daughter. James, isn’t she beautiful? Doesn’t she look just like me?”I forced back the tears and nodded with a smile. “Yeah, she looks exactly like you.”The little one giggled and threw herself into Clary’s arms.Clary picked her up, and when she leaned down to kiss her cheek, my eyes stung. If I hadn’t cheated, and we hadn’t broken up, she would have been in my arms right now, acting spoiled, calling me Daddy.“Thanks for taking care of Alice just now.”Clary smiled at me again. Then she turned, holding her daughter, ready to leave.I couldn’t stop myself and asked, almost pathetically, “Do you have someone now?”Clary

Alpha James’ Side StoryAfter that, I never saw Clary again. She left the Southern Pack where we had lived together for six years.I heard that she dated from time to time, but never had a mate.I learned all of this from Seth, who knew anything about Clary because he was now with Maia.Yes, Seth managed to win Maia over. However, it took him even longer than me back then.He needed relentless persistence, switching between soft and hard approaches. More than once, he grew discouraged, just like I had, feeling desperate and ready to give up.But this time, he showed a rare kind of persistence. In the end, he actually succeeded. This was their third year together. He endured pressure from his family and relatives and was preparing to hold their mating ceremony with Maia.As Maia’s best friend, Clary would definitely come back to attend it.When I heard that news, I found myself growing inexplicably nervous.I got a haircut a week early, then kept picking out my clothes and

His clothes were soaked through, and his hair was damp. His face looked a little pale, yet those proud, arrogant eyes were now filled with searing anger.“So you already found yourself someone new. No wonder you wanted to break up with me.”James’s words caught me off guard for a moment, but the next second, they only made me want to laugh.Arthur’s expression turned cold. “What nonsense are you talking about? I’m here to sign a contract with Clary.”James let out a sneer. “Arthur, no wonder you suddenly became so passionate about work these past few years. Now it’s obvious you’ve been using work as an excuse to get close to Clary.“Arthur, I’ve known you for years, and this is the first time I’ve seen you care this much about a she-wolf.“But she’s my fated mate!”His smile twisted, dark and sharp. “Alpha Arthur, why don’t you explain when exactly you started setting your sights on my fated mate?“Do you even remember that we've been together for six years?”Arthur looked

Clary's POVI looked at the client sitting across from me.His name was Arthur, Alpha of the Southern Pack. He was a bit older, with a temperament that was steadier and more reserved. Even James treated him with a degree of respect.Every time we met, he had never once looked at me inappropriately, nor had he ever said anything mocking or dismissive. Back when I was constantly at odds with Seth and the others, Arthur had even spoken up for me a few times.I hadn’t interacted with him much, but I had always respected him.Like James, I called him Arthur. And when he spoke to me, he had never shown anything out of the ordinary.Which was why, at this moment, his sudden confession left me both surprised and unable to hide my shock.“I’m sorry. Did my sudden confession trouble you?” Alpha Arthur asked gently.I shook my head.I wasn’t exactly troubled. However, there was a faint, almost petty sense of disappointment in my chest.I had thought he chose to work with me because

The house was cleaned every day.It was spotless and neat, yet so unbearably empty.Though only lacking a she-wolf, it felt like all the warmth in the world had left with her.James casually took off his coat and tossed it onto the couch.Loosening his tie, he poured himself a glass of wine. His phone lay on the coffee table beside him.It vibrated from time to time. However, he knew none of it was from Clary. She was stubborn and fierce, the kind who couldn’t put up with even the slightest bit of nonsense. That was why, all these years, whenever he cheated, he made sure every wolf kept it from her.A sudden rumble of thunder came from outside.Lightning tore across the sky.Suddenly, James recalled that night. It seemed like the first time that when he said he was going back to the North, Clary had grabbed his sleeve, saying, “James, it’s raining. I’m scared.”James slowly straightened. It was as if something had just clicked.Had Clary already known something back then

Third-person POVThe day James left the Northern Pack, Seth and the others came to see him off.The Omega, however, didn’t show up.When someone asked about her, James only replied lightly, “We broke up.”Everyone understood.Still, compared to the others before her, that Omega had been a little different.Seth hesitated, like he wanted to say something but couldn’t.After that phone call the other night, Clary had blocked him.He had originally wanted to ask her for Maia’s contact. Thinking about it now, it felt almost ridiculous. He used to be the one who wanted Alpha James to dump Clary the most. Now, he was the one hoping they would get back together. After all, it was obvious that Maia and Clary were close, and Maia cared about Clary’s opinion. If Clary got back with Alpha James and he behaved himself, maybe Clary would put in a good word for him in front of Maia. However, looking at James’ expression, Seth had a bad feeling. In the end, he couldn’t hold it in and pul
