Chapter 4

ผู้เขียน: Moore
A sudden panic rose in Cesare's heart. Instinctively, he tried to go after me, but Sonia grabbed him tightly.

"You made me a promise. This is to be a secret between us!" Sonia hissed warningly into his ear, her head raised arrogantly.

Cesare stopped in his tracks, his eyes flashing with impatience. "Don't push it, Sonia. She's my Donna!"

Sonia simply snorted, her gaze scornful. "Your family doesn't even recognize her. You'd better not forget about our deal, Don Fontana!"

Cesare lowered his eyes. While his stance made him seem agreeable, his voice was icy. "Don't make things humiliating or uncomfortable for Rosalia. That's where I draw the line."

However, Sonia wasn't the least bit afraid. She even clutched his arm and nuzzled her head against his shoulder in an intimate manner.

"The Moretti family will be meeting with the Fontana family tomorrow. It seems to me that you'll probably need my help then."

Cesare said nothing more. He only clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms.

Once they were done with Sonia's prenatal checkup, they went to the mall to buy a ton of baby supplies before having a lavish dinner as well. The moon was high in the sky when they finally got back to Fontana Estate.

The house looked cold and empty. The household staff had already retired to their rooms for the night. In the past, I would always leave a light on for him and stay up in my room, patiently waiting for him to return.

But tonight, the entire house was dark, including my room.

The unease in Cesare's heart kept growing, but Sonia still refused to let him leave her side.

"My papa will show his support for you during the meeting tomorrow, but your uncle has far too many supporters as well. Even if we, the Moretti family, back you up, it's no guarantee that you'll maintain your position as the Don of the Fontana family."

Tilting her chin upward, she added with a haughty expression, "I already told you that as long as you marry me, the Moretti family will do everything in its power to support you. This is a win-win situation for both of us!"

However, Cesare flung her hand off, his expression frosty. "And I also told you that Rosalia is the only one I would ever marry. Pretending to be the father of your child is already as far as I can go.

"If you're going to insist on crossing the line, I don't mind using my position as Don of the Fontana family to declare war against the Moretti family!"

Sonia's eyes flashed with fury, but she soon lifted her head and chuckled. "Relax. This was just a joke. We already have an agreement, don't we?"

Scoffing, Cesare pushed Sonia's hand away and hurried up to the second floor.

The guest bedroom I'd chosen had been the furthest one from Cesare's master bedroom. It was right by the household staff's quarters.

Cesare knew that he'd hurt me deeply with his actions, but he had no choice. He bought a set of diamond jewelry at an auction, hoping he could use it to make it up to me. But after entering the room with the jewelry box in hand, he froze.

The room looked spotless and untouched. There was no trace of me having stayed there at all.

Frowning, Cesare woke up his butler, Giovanni Russo.

"Where did Rosalia move to? Bring me to her now!"

Suppressing a yawn, Giovanni glanced into the room while saying, "But this is Donna Fontana's room, Don Fontana. She didn't move anywhere else."

Cesare's expression darkened. "Have you grown too comfortable on the job? Is that why you've made such a careless mistake? Open your eyes and take a good look at the room again. Does it look like anyone is staying here?"

Shocked, Giovanni lowered his head and apologized to Cesera, "My apologies, Don Fontana. I've been negligent. I'll find Donna Fontana's room at once!"

Alas, there was no way Giovanni could find me. I was already on a flight bound for Ressonia. I'd left Navarino for good.

As if sensing my sadness, Cesare did something unprecedented. He tried to console me. "You've already proven yourself to be an exceptionally capable person, Rosalia. I apologize for having underestimated you before."His gaze was nothing but sincere as he continued, "During this time, I've seen how hard you work and how brave you are. I've come to realize how egotistical I'd been in the past. I thought that it would be good enough if I just made all the arrangements for your life. I never stopped to consider your feelings."My face started to heat up a little. The stuffy feeling in my chest made me feel like crying.Cesare abruptly grabbed my hand. He seemed to have come to some sort of decision. "There were a lot of things I should never have kept from you. I thought it would be better for you that way, but it turned out that not knowing only caused you even greater pain."He told me about the plot he'd set in motion, as well as everything that happened afterward. It was only afte

I thought Cesare would give up and leave, now that I'd stated things clearly to him. To my surprise, even though he no longer bothered me, he stuck around as a tourist and rented the log cabin closest to mine.I forced myself not to pay any attention to him and treat him as an ordinary guest.Yet, I couldn't help wondering why he would show up here alone, without even a single bodyguard.Sonia was nowhere to be found, too. Weren't they in love? After I left, the two of them must have ended up together, right? She should've also given birth by now. Was she looking after the baby alone while he came running over here to look for his ex-wife?The more I thought about it, the more pissed I became. I even started treating Cesare with outright disdain. However, he seemed to be oblivious to my stony expression and would show up in front of me every day. But at the same time, he was thoughtful enough not to disturb me or cause any disruptions to my life.During the winter, the log cabi

The visitor was a man named Peter Graham. He was a butler and had come to inquire about the rates for renting the log cabin.Startled, I shook my head and explained, "I'm sorry, but the resort cabins for the ski resort are on the other side. This is private property."Peter looked visibly disappointed. He even continued to glance around the log cabin with a reluctant expression."Are you sure you don't want to rent this place out?" he asked. "My employer is willing to pay twice the usual rates. Those resort cabins within the ski resort aren't half as picturesque as this one. It's such a shame."Feeling slightly tempted, I asked tentatively, "How much is your employer willing to pay to rent this place?"Peter named a price I couldn't possibly turn down. He even added, "My employer will only be staying here for two weeks, but we will pay you a full month's rental!"Well, was there any reason for me to hesitate?Afraid that Peter's employer might change his mind, I swiftly nodded,

Before anyone could even understand the situation, Cesare had already swiftly seized the Moretti family's territory, doubling the Fontana family's power. He was now irrefutably the most powerful man in Navarino. On the day she was driven out, Sonia fell to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably. "You can't do this to me, Cesare! We grew up together. Are you really going to be so ruthless as to run us out like that?"Expression icy, Cesare simply replied, "Did you consider our childhood friendship when you humiliated my wife, forced me to acknowledge your bastard child as mine, and got your father to seize my territory?"Biting her lip, Sonia said with a pained expression, "I only did all that because I love you! That was the only way I could have you to myself—""But I don't love you. I will only be with my wife," Cesare cut her off in disgust.Alas, Sonia refused to give up. "Rosalia has already left, Cesare. Why don't you just forget about her and be with me instead? We're the perfec

The news of Leonardo's decision soon reached Antonio's ears. He was so thrilled that he popped a bottle of champagne."Now that his biggest supporter is gone, Cesare is a sitting duck forsaken by all!"After downing a glass of champagne, he clenched his teeth, snarling, "His father stole the position of Don from me. This time, I'm going to take back what's rightfully mine!"He reached out to Leonardo and expressed his willingness to marry Sonia.Leonardo kept a faint smile as he escorted Antonio to the door, but his expression darkened the moment Antonio left.He even spat on the floor before growling, "Hah! How dare the likes of him even think about marrying my daughter? If not because of Cesare, I wouldn't have even bothered saying a single word to someone like him!"Sonia also emerged from a room with a look of repulsion. "What makes him think I'd choose to marry an old and ugly man like him? Papa, are you seriously going to support that hideous buffoon to become the next Don?

Cesare didn't sleep the entire night. He searched every place I might have gone and sent out many of his men to ask around for news of me.In the end, he found out which flight I had taken and saw the divorce papers I'd left in the drawer. He stood in a daze, clutching the divorce papers. Not for the life of him could he remember when he'd ever signed any divorce papers. There was no way he could've signed those divorce papers.Yet, the divorce document in his hands now made it clear that I'd left him for good. How could he possibly allow that? But now, he didn't even have the freedom to look for me.When Sonia saw how haggard Cesare looked, she snapped in dissatisfaction, "The guests have already gathered in the conference hall downstairs. You know very well how important today's meeting is, yet what have you been doing, huh? Are you going to miss this crucial meeting over someone who doesn't even matter?"Cesare looked at her, his demeanor turning cold and intimidating. "My wi
