Chapter 7

Author: Dawnie
That was when Tina's mewling voice rang, "Are you there, Mr. Sachs?"

Lina turned, stunned as she watched Tina enter after keying in the passcode.

She did so without hesitation—it clearly wasn't her first time.

Lisa almost laughed despite herself.

And this house was supposed to be hers and James'?

James was surprised too, distracted by Tina. "What are you doing here?"

Tina didn't answer, instead bowing her head at Lisa and sniffling loudly, "I'm sorry! Lisa! It was just Truth or Dare, but everyone got drunk. We thought it was an innocent little kiss that was no big deal, but we didn't expect you to get so upset…"

Pursing her lips, she then held out a pair of glass figurines to Lisa. "I made these myself—it's a couple set, meant to be a blessing for your marriage with Mr. Sachs!"

Her words immediately struck a chord with James, as he really approved of how mature and understanding Tina was.

As for Lisa… He frowned even as he turned to her.

However, as Tina ran up to Lisa, asking for forgiveness while hounding Lisa to accept her gifts, that two-faced behavior only made Lisa sick.

But when Lisa sidestepped Tina, Tina fell backward as if she was pushed forcefully.

"Argh!!!" Tina screamed as her hip struck the corner of the glass shelf, as the figurines shattered audibly.

"It hurts so much!" she bawled out loud, her tears gushing as if she was grievously wounded. "Lisa, I didn't get upset when you slapped me and even apologized, but you hurt me again…"

James' knuckles were clenched as he promptly held Tina in his arms to calm her down, his chest hurting as if her tears burned him too.

Taking a deep breath, he turned to glare at Lisa, snapping sternly, "You have gone too far this time! What did Tina do to you?! Why do you have to keep hurting her?! Apologize to her right now!"

"That's not going to happen," Lisa retorted, raising her head proudly, her cool gaze reflecting the man and woman clinging to each other. "I'd never stoop to Tina's level of pettiness, but as your fiancee, you never explained to me why you were kissing Tina, among other misdeeds.

"And yet, you're demanding that I apologize to her instead? Don't make me laugh. So stop trying to avoid the question—are you in love with Tina Childe or not?"

Her voice was clear and strong, and it really burned James' ears.

All the flaring emotions in him seemed to be extinguished while his unease grew, as he got the feeling that he would lose Lisa if he kept avoiding the question.

And he'd never allow that to happen.

However, he still hesitated as he looked down at Tina, who was still clinging to his arms, and began, "No, I—"

"Oh, no!!!"

That was when Tina pointed behind him, exclaiming in surprise, "Lisa… Why did you burn those plane tickets?!"

James turned stiffly when he heard that, his breath leaving his lungs.

After a long while, James closed his eyes, his voice restrained as he told Lisa, "Go… Right now."Lisa didn't hesitate as she leaped to her feet, straightened her clothes and headed for the door, which was opened on James' order. Before she left, he asked softly, "Is there no way to make things right?"His voice was raspy from the singe of alcohol, and he had his shoulders slumped in desolation.Lisa didn't answer, but he knew the answer. He laughed shortly, both at himself and in utter devastation, as he called out behind her, "Then don't forget me… And please don't hate me."-When Lisa left the hotel, dark clouds were blocking out the skies. Cool winds were pelting her right in the face, sending chills—it was really poor weather.Lisa's minds were blank, her fingers stiffly tapping between social media apps. After just a few steps, she noticed a van lurking in the shadows not that far away. The headlights were on, but it was too dim outside, and the glare obscured the bul

It was soon evening, and once Lisa entered the private room, she was stunned to see several safe deposit boxes left open on the table. There were stacks of cash in there, and from a brief glance, it really looked like it was worth ten million. However, that didn't delight Lisa at all.If anything, she sensed danger!Though she stopped and instinctively turned to leave, it was too late—the door was shut in her face and locked with an audible click.Lisa's eyes widened and she ran over, yanking the handles, but it just wouldn't open."Lisa…"Hearing James' familiar voice, Lisa couldn't hold back her rage at his stubborn persistence. "What do you want?!" she demanded. "Do you not understand what I said?! It's too late for us. I've already begun a new life!"James' dark gaze was fixed on her as if he was the victim. "Did you forget? It's my birthday—we promised we'd never miss each other's birthdays. "And do you see all that money? I've sold my hospital. That's all my life sa

If James was the envy of elite circles, then Finn Gooding was the peak of elitism that stood far above the rest.Despite being raised abroad, there were always rumors swirling about him in the country—or indeed, myths.Even his high IQ seemed insignificant compared to his achievements, as he founded a company at fifteen and became the leading authority of an entire industry in under a year.In fact, he was still technically a student now, even though his net worth placed him at the very top of the world's rich list."Try again, loser," James scoffed, not buying it—not when his chest hurt at the thought that Lisa had found someone a thousand times better than himself, and he had no chance of winning. For his part, Finn didn't waste time proving his identity, instead staring coldly at James as he warned, "Watch your mouth. And Lisa's not like you, completely unaware that you were cheating while being overly self-assured."I won't lie that I had my eyes on her for the longest time,

The album was cold, and the edges hurt as James brushed his fingers over it.Taking a deep breath, he walked up and pulled Lisa to his side.He was a little rough and forceful, but he was already restraining himself—heaven knew how much his jealousy and possessiveness flared up when he saw Lisa being with another man, threatening to blow him up right then."Lisa, I have a gift for you…" he said in a hushed voice. He thought Lisa would ask where he was and why he was gone for a couple of days without a word.To his shock, the first thing she said was instead, "Why are you still here? Didn't you leave already?"James almost failed to keep his smile right then, and he laughed dryly. "Why would I leave, darling?"He did his best to ignore the man as he held out the album to Lisa, saying earnestly, "I never left. I just thought I should prove how deep my love is to get you back. That was why I returned to our home, collected all the photos we took together, and put them into an album

James couldn't even remember how security chased him out.Somehow, he didn't feel rage or embarrassment… only utter disbelief.Lisa had never been so cold to him and was always relenting or tolerant. But he lost her. However, he also refused to give up—he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and he would do anything for her to forgive him. That was why he waited for a long time, though it was not until the sun had set when Lisa finally stepped out of the conference hall. Her classmates were all smiles as they praised her inspiring presentation, gathering more investments than they had expected."Teamwork makes the dream work," Lisa simply said humbly.Standing in the distance under a tree, James smiled. That was the Lisa he knew and loved. He wanted to intercept her after her classmates left, but he hesitated and followed her home all the way to her apartment instead. He had to know where she lived so that he would have a better shot of getting her back!Seeing he

Perhaps someone up there still had his back, for James eventually found Lisa.He was standing with the spectators in the shade, while Lisa dazzled at the center of the stage. As the light brightened her silhouette and anointed her brilliance with a halo, she smiled with absolute confidence as she spoke about her project with immaculate eloquence and charisma. With her hair tied into a bun and her prim suit, the little locks that dangled only made her appear even more elegant.Even as James stared from beneath the stage, bedazzled, he thought to himself that Lisa had changed or indeed reverted to her old self before he met her.She was that dazzling when he wooed her, as bright as the sun and warming his heart. And yet, he disappointed her time and time again, reducing her to a shade of her former glory—paranoid, fragile, and forced to repeatedly question how much she mattered to him. Even as the painful thoughts swelled in James' mind, Lisa concluded her presentation to thunder
