AVA'S POV

I was expecting to see Julia, but no, it was another familiar sight – Cindy. And she was wearing one of Alex’s shirts.

It took me a second to place it – an expensive gray linen shirt I had given him for his birthday a couple of years ago. Not that it mattered. It just caught my eye because I remembered picking it out myself. He liked it and wore it often. That’s all.

I wasn’t surprised to see her here. Not really. She had already told me in the restaurant bathroom that she was staying with Alex for a while. I didn’t ask why. It wasn’t my business. Alex and I were close, yes. But I didn’t own him. He could live with whoever he wanted.

Still, I guess part of me thought… she’d be gone by now.

“Ava!” she said brightly, smiling like we were old friends. “What a surprise! Come on in.”

I nodded and stepped inside. The apartment looked the same, clean and well-arranged. The only sound I heard was the clinking of dishes, which I assumed was Julia in the kitchen doing her n

Well, that was a bust. Maybe Ava needs to be by herself. Although I don’t want her back with Jason, I’m starting to think she doesn’t deserve Alex. Alex is a good man and he deserves someone who genuinely cares about him

AVA'S POV I stared at my reflection in the mirror and was finally satisfied. After what felt like hours of frantic searching, I had finally found a dress that would perfectly complement the earrings. Yes, those earrings – the ones I discovered hidden in Jason's pocket this morning. A pair of delicate and luxurious pearl earrings adorned with diamonds It was created by my favorite designer, Kokichi Mikimoto, one of only five such earrings in the world. Jason is so thoughtful that he would secretly buy the jewelry I like and give it to me as a surprise on our wedding anniversary. Yes, I was sure he would give this gift to me tonight. I kept checking my dress and makeup in the mirror, and couldn't help imagining how stunning I would look in those earrings. My hands smoothed down the fabric of the dress, which clung to my body in a way it hadn't just a few weeks ago. I turned to the side, my eyes drawn to the slight, but unmistakable curve of my abdomen. A secret I had

Ava's POV Liar. He said he would be back soon, but he left me waiting all night. I dragged myself to Campbell Group where I work. The company is owned by Jason’s family, and Jason is the CEO and my boss. Sally Parker, my best friend and colleague, greeted me with concern the moment I walked into my office. “Ava, are you okay? You don’t look well.” Forcing a smile, I nodded. “I’m fine, just tired.” She looked at me skeptical but decided not to press further. “Well, you’ll be pleased to hear that today they’re announcing the new design director. It has to be you, Ava. You’ve worked so hard for it. Congratulations in advance.” “Thanks, Sal. I appreciate your support.” I am somewhat calm because I knew the position would be mine. Jason had assured me and I was ready to take on the responsibilities of the design director. I noticed everyone's phone buzzing with a new notification including mine. “I know it must be the appointment notification.” Sally hurriedly checked her

AVA'S POV I couldn't believe what I had just heard, Laura's words echoed in my ears like a thunderclap. I could feel my chest growing so tight that it became difficult for me to breathe. “You left me and married him, claiming he was the love of your life, so right now I don't care if you got divorced because of me or not.” Jason retorted, his voice laced with bitterness. Every word felt like a needle piercing my heart. “I was young and confused Jason. I'm sorry for the hurt I caused you back then. I thought I loved him but I never did, it was after I married him that I realized I left gold for bronze.” She added, “Jason, it's you my heart beats for.” Laura sobbed, tears streaming down her cheeks. I was breathless, eager to know how Jason would react to the pitiful Laura in front of him, but I was also afraid that his answer would make me a complete loser in our marriage. “It's too late Laura, I'm married.” Jason declared. I watched in a daze, hoping for something. I wanted to

AVA'S POV The house was quiet as I slowly woke up, the soft hum of the morning light filtering through the curtains. I noticed the other side of the bed was empty and showed no signs of Jason coming in last night. I felt a pang of sadness within me as different wild thoughts ran through my head. The silence of the atmosphere was interrupted by a burst of laughter. I frowned, as I slipped out of bed and followed the sound, the laughter grew louder and mingled with the clinking of dishes. Pushing open the kitchen door I met a scene that stung more than a slap. Jason and Laura were standing at the counter their movement in perfect harmony like they had practiced this routine a thousand times. Laura leaned closer to Jason her hands brushing his as they worked together. Jason, who always seemed so reserved, was laughing at something Laura said. His laughter was so rich and genuine, a sound I hadn't heard often. A pang of jealousy pierced my heart. "Good morning, Ava." Laur

AVA'S POV The days that followed Laura's departure were strange. Jason became more loving and attentive towards me. He cooked for me, bought me flowers, and even took a leave of absence from work to spend quality time with me. It felt like the early days of our relationship. I felt that he was trying to compensate me for all the agony I had undergone during these past recent months. He could not have been more successful. After getting home from work, Jason changed his clothes and went to prepare dinner. And I rested on the couch and watched him busy in the kitchen. He was tall and handsome, and the sunset shone on him through the windows, creating a light halo that removed some of his coldness. He lowered his eyes slightly, and his hands with distinct bony fingers handled the ingredients skillfully. This scene gave me a feeling of peace. “What’s wrong?” He turned around and asked me in a gentle voice. “Babe, will you be able to accompany me to the hospital tomorrow

AVA'S POV I regained consciousness in a hospital bed feeling dazed and confused. The room was well-lit, and the clean scent of disinfectant overwhelmed my senses, almost suffocating me. My pulse quickened as the accident flashed back into my memory, vivid and harsh. The baby was my first concern. Fear took hold of me as I touched my belly, dreading the worst. “Hey, easy there,” came a familiar voice breaking through my racing thoughts. It was Sally sitting beside my bed. Her presence gave me a bit of comfort, but I got more anxious when I remembered I hadn't told her about my pregnancy. The weight of keeping this secret felt like a big rock was stuck in my throat. She saw the fear in my eyes and helped me lie back down on the bed, putting her hand on my arm. “Don't worry. The baby is fine," she said in a calm and reassuring voice, but I could tell she was worried too. Her words brought me relief but also made me feel guilty. I hadn't planned to reveal my pregna

AVA'S POV The nurse’s words kept echoing relentlessly in my mind, refusing to let me breathe as my body went numb in an instant. The world around me blurred, and the white, sterile walls of the hospital seemed to close in, trapping me in between. Laura is pregnant with Jason's child! It seemed like a dream to me and I could feel the heat rise inside me, as if my inside were heated to a hundred degrees Celsius. When did Jason start cheating on me? Why did he cheat? Wasn't I enough for him? Or.... was it because I didn't satisfy him sexually? These questions ran through my head causing my head to ache so badly since I had no answers to them. I wasn't very experienced at first when I and Jason started dating back in college. He was actually my first for everything. He was both my first love, my first kiss, my first sexual partner, my first....... everything. Did he cheat on me because I couldn’t satisfy his needs? No, that can’t be it. I know it isn’t. AVA’S POV The sky was already dark when I pulled out of the parking lot of the company building. Streetlights glowed soft yellow, casting long shadows on the wet road ahead. It had rained earlier the roads still looked shiny and slick. The traffic was crawling as if the whole city had decided to move in slow motion tonight. I kept one hand on the wheel, the other resting on my lap, fingers tapping nervously. I didn't know why I was doing this. I should’ve just gone home but I told Sally I’d go. I told her I’d stop by Alex's penthouse and check on him. Now I was halfway across town, stuck in traffic second-guessing everything. Heading to Alex’s penthouse like some lost girl hoping for answers she wasn’t sure she wanted. The silence in the car wasn’t helping. No music, no podcast, nothing to distract my thoughts. Just me and this heavy feeling sitting in my chest. I glanced at my phone in the passenger seat. Still no messages, still no calls, nothing from Alex. His number sti

JASON’S POV I pulled out my phone, swallowed the knot in my throat, and called the board secretary Sharon. My voice shook a little. “Get everyone to the main conference room. Now. Tell them it’s urgent.” I didn’t wait for a reply. I ended the call and looked at my grandfather. He gave me a small nod like, finally. Then he turned and started walking like it was already decided. Evelyn followed us. She didn’t say a word, just walked beside me. The tension was thick. People in the hallways stepped aside when they saw him. Some bowed their heads. Some whispered. Some just stared like they couldn’t believe he was really here. By the time we reached the boardroom, a few directors were already arriving. Gray suits, stiff collars, worried eyes. Ben came in next, holding a folder tight under his arm. His jaw clenched when he saw my grandfather, but he gave a respectful nod. Then the others trickled in – old names, powerful voices. The ones who smiled in photos but sharpened their kni

JASON’S POV I drove like a man chasing time. My hands were tight on the steering wheel, and my heart wouldn’t stop pounding. I kept glancing at the clock on the dashboard, even though I knew I’d be early. My chest felt heavy. I couldn’t stop thinking about him – my grandfather. What he’d say. How he’d look at me. How disappointed he’d be. I kept hearing his voice in my head, not loud, but cold and steady. The kind of voice that didn’t need to shout to tear you apart. I’d only heard him raise it once in my life – and even then, it wasn’t a scream. It was worse. It was quiet, disappointed. I swallowed hard and tapped the steering wheel. I hated this. I hated how small I felt right now. I was supposed to be the CEO. I was supposed to be leading. Instead, I was driving to pick up the man who built the empire I was now watching burn. He was already there when I pulled up. Standing near the curb in a sharp gray coat. Hands behind his back. Luggage neatly beside him. His eyes locked

AVA’S POVSally’s voice cut through my thoughts as she looked up from her phone. “Hey… have you seen Alex lately?”I blinked, surprised by the question. “No… not for a while,” I said slowly. “It’s been some time actually.”The last time I heard from him was the day we finally agreed to be just friends. I haven’t heard from him since, which was surprising – it was so unlike Alex.Sally tilted her head, brows pinched. “Really? That’s strange. With everything going on – you’d think he’d reach out.”I gave a little shrug and tried not to let my voice crack. “Yeah… you’d think.”She frowned. “I mean, it’s all over the internet. The news, Twitter… everything. I thought he’d at least call or something.”I nodded but stayed quiet. The truth was, I had been thinking the same thing. Every day. I kept wondering if Alex was purposely staying away. Was it because of what I said the last time we talked? That I wasn’t ready for a relationship? But we had cleared the air. We hugged, and we agreed to

JASON’S POVI leaned forward and rubbed my face with both hands. My eyes burned from reading too many headlines. I picked up my phone again, even though I already knew it would just make things worse. Another headline popped up. “Jason Campbell’s Silence Makes Him Look Guilty.” I tossed the phone onto the desk like it had burned me. I stood up fast, the chair sliding back behind me. Enough. I couldn’t just sit here and do nothing. Everything was falling apart around me, and I was just stuck – frozen like a deer in headlights. I grabbed my phone again and typed out a message to Ben. “Call a meeting. Everyone. 30 minutes. Executive floor.” I didn’t know exactly what I’d say. I didn’t even have a plan. I just needed to do something. Anything. Sitting around wasn’t helping. Every second we waited, the company died a little more. I threw on my blazer and stood in front of the mirror. I looked like hell. My eyes were bloodshot, my jaw was tight, and my tie was crooked. I fixed

AVA’S POVBy the time I got to the office that morning, the building was buzzing. People didn’t say anything directly to me, but I could feel it in the way they paused their whispers when I walked by. A few glanced at their phones and then at me, their eyes full of questions they wouldn’t dare ask.I already knew what it was about.Laura’s arrest was everywhere. Online. In the news. Even trending on Twitter. Her mugshot was floating around, and so were screenshots of her chats with the blogger who tried to ruin me. Some posts even claimed that Campbell Group’s stocks were starting to dip. Investors were nervous. Some were pulling out.All because of her.I walked straight into my office and gently shut the door behind me. My heels clicked quietly against the floor as I walked toward the window, taking a moment to breathe. The city looked the same – cars moving, people in a hurry – but everything was different now.I had told Rose earlier that morning to keep Emma and Mason home so the

JASON’S POV The morning after everything exploded was a disaster. I woke up to the blaring sound of notifications and headlines. “Laura Martinez Arrested for Defamation,” “Campbell Group Tied to Scandal,” “CEO Jason Campbell Linked to Controversial Figure.” The words hit me like a slap in the face. The chaos was everywhere – on social media, in the news, across every single online platform. Laura’s name was everywhere, and unfortunately, my name was tied to it. No one seemed to care that I wasn’t the one behind the rumors; they only saw me as the man who had defended her, the one who was still somehow connected to her and engaged to her, even though she had ruined everything. First the Milan fashion show crises and now this. I felt my stomach turn. Investors were pulling out left and right. Clients were dropping off, and the stock price was plummeting faster than I could track. I’d never seen anything like this in my years as CEO. It wasn’t just the company at risk anymore – it

AVA'S POV Still holding the edge of the staircase, I let out a tired breath. I walked back down slowly, half-expecting Ben again. Maybe he forgot to give me something. I opened the door and called out, “Ben, did you forget..." But it wasn’t Ben. It was Naomi. Ohh... It should already be 6 PM since she was here. She stood there in a sharp black blazer and heels, a leather bag slung over one shoulder. Her hair was in its usual sleek bun, and her makeup looked like it hadn’t moved since this morning. She was always put together like that, the kind of woman who never looked flustered, even if the sky was falling. Her eyebrows lifted slightly as she looked at me. “Ben?” she repeated. “Who’s that?” I blinked, caught off guard. “No one,” I said quickly. “Never mind. Just… someone from earlier.” I didn’t want to explain. Naomi might be my lawyer now, but I’d known her for years – since college, actually. Back then, it was always me, Sally, and Naomi. We had our little trio. Sal
