AVA'S POV

I didn’t even think. My feet were already moving before I could process what I was doing. I darted across the street, barely looking both ways. My heart was thumping so loud it was hard to hear anything else.

“Wait...Ava!” I heard Michael call behind me, but I didn’t stop.

She was right there. Standing under that streetlamp like some kind of ghost. But by the time I got to where she had been, nothing.

She was gone.

I spun around in a small circle, my eyes scanning every face, every shadow. “No. No, no, no…” I muttered under my breath. Where did she go? She was right here. I swear I saw her.

I started walking fast, my eyes searching every parked car, every alleyway, every corner. Nothing.

“Ava!” Michael’s voice was closer now.

Before I could turn, I felt a soft tap on my shoulder. I jumped so hard I nearly screamed. My foot slipped on the edge of the sidewalk, and I lost my balance.

But Michael caught me fast. His arms wrapped around me, steadying me before I

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0262

AVA’S POV It was six o’clock and my office was unusually quiet. The building always had this hum in the evenings — phones ringing faintly down the hall, printers whirring, the occasional footsteps of someone leaving late. But today, everything felt different. My last day before leaving. I closed my laptop slowly, running my fingers over the smooth surface as if I could somehow absorb the last bit of energy from it. My eyes swept around the room, the bookshelves, the sketches pinned on the board, the half-empty coffee cup on my desk. For over a year now this space has been my second home, sometimes even more than my actual home. It felt strange, almost wrong, to walk away from it. The doctor’s warning still echoed in my head. “If you keep pushing like this, Ava, your body will give up.” Those words had shaken me. As much as I hated to admit it, he was right. I wasn’t a machine. I couldn’t keep going until I collapsed. Still, leaving wasn’t easy. My chest felt heavy, like I was b

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0261

AVA'S POV I sat behind my desk, staring at the half-finished report on my computer screen, but my mind wasn’t there. My fingers moved across the keyboard, but everything felt heavy, like I was forcing myself to do something my body no longer had the strength for. The doctor’s words from the other day still echoed clearly in my mind, as if he were standing right next to me. “If you keep pushing like this, Ava, your body will give up.” That warning had shaken me more than I wanted to admit. I had fainted more than twice in the space of weeks. That wasn’t normal. It was my body screaming at me to stop, but I had been too stubborn to listen. Until now. This was my last day at work. Tomorrow I was leaving to travel, to rest, to recover. Saying those words out loud felt strange, almost unreal. I had built my life around working, being strong, and being dependable. Now I had to learn how to step back. I couldn't remember the last time I took a break. Just as I was trying to wrap up

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0260

AVA’S POV It had been months since Laura’s arrest, yet sometimes it still felt like a bad dream replaying in my head. The courtroom, her cold stare, the testimonies especially Leo’s, Alex's brother. He had only just come out of his coma, and still, he had the courage to stand and tell the world what she tried to do to him. That woman hadn’t just tried to kill me, she wanted to erase him too. For what? Money. Power. And to go back to Jason. Life imprisonment. That was her sentence. I thought I would feel joy, maybe even triumph, but what I felt most was exhaustion. My body carried the weight of all that had happened. Nights had become restless, days had been consumed by projects at work, and in between, I clung to the children as if they were my anchor. The sound of my doorbell pulled me from my thoughts. I already knew who it was. Alex had called earlier, saying he would be coming this morning. I quickly called Rosa to bring Emma and Mason downstairs, then walked toward the doo

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0259

LAURA'S POV The silence in my hotel room was beginning to feel like a curse. I paced back and forth, my heels clicking against the cheap wooden floor, the sound filling the space like an echo of my nerves. My glasses were still on, though the lenses pressed uncomfortably against the bridge of my nose. I didn’t care. They made me feel less exposed, like I could hide behind them even in private. My phone lay on the bed, face up, taunting me with its black screen. Riper should have called by now. It had been days since his last message. Just four words: the job was done. No follow-up. No confirmation. No details. Normally, Riper disappeared after a job, but never like this. Silence was his language, but even silence had limits. This time, it stretched too long, like a thread about to snap. His number was unreachable, and that was what gnawed at me the most. I stopped pacing, gripping the back of the chair with white knuckles, and let my mind race. The news said Ava had fallen do

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0258

AVA’S POVThe first thing I became aware of was the smell. A faint mix of antiseptic and something sterile, the kind of scent you only find in hospitals or clinics. My eyelids felt heavy, like someone had glued them shut, but I forced them open. My head throbbed in time with my heartbeat, each pulse sending a dull ache across my skull. The room was dim, the blinds half-drawn. My eyes moved slowly, scanning my surroundings. I wasn’t in my bedroom. This wasn’t even my house. Then I saw two figures, Jason and Sally standing in the far corner of the room, their voices low, their heads bent toward each other. I couldn’t make out what they were saying, but Jason’s arms were crossed tightly, and Sally kept gesturing with her hands like she was explaining something urgent. A groan escaped me before I could stop it. Their heads snapped in my direction, and in seconds, they were by my side. “You’re awake,” Sally said, relief flooding her face. “Lie down, don’t try to move.” Jason leaned

  • Goodbye, Ex-Husband, Next Please   CHAPTER 0257

AVA’S POVI’d taken a few days off work after everything that had happened. At first, I told myself it was just to clear my head, but the truth was… I couldn’t stop replaying the near accident in my mind. The sound of screeching tires. The rush of air as the car sped past. Michael’s arm grabbing me. The whole thing made my stomach twist every time I thought about it. I decided to keep working from home for a while. It was easier that way — no traffic, no awkward run-ins, no stares from curious colleagues asking if I was okay because I was sure they might have heard one or two. My days were packed with back-to-back meetings anyway which happened via Zoom, and I had a huge project pitch in two days. Still, some files I needed were only at the office, and the final prep couldn’t be done over email. So today, I forced myself to make the trip in. Sally sat across from me, a little farther down the table, flipping through a stack of printed documents I’d asked her to proofread. The ste
