After Katherine said goodbye, Veronica glanced at me, but she looked spaced out.
“Our food order has arrived.” I raised the paper bag with the logo of a famous restaurant on its front to show it to Veronica.
That food package gave me the perfect excuse to call on her door because the silence on her end bothered me so much.
Right after bathing and changing into fresh clothes, I was so ready to hop into Veronica’s unit when I saw Katherine outside her door.
The sight made me pause. I stood inside my unit, with the door open a crack. My mind was alert for what was going to happen.
When Veronica opened her door to let Katherine in, I gave her a signal that I would be waiting for her to call me back when the coast was clear.
She nodded.
But as the minutes ticked by, I couldn’t just sit still and wait for Veronica to call me.
