Chapter 1428

Aвтор: Cozy Season
Debra perked up. "You can't take back a gift. Wait and see. I'll find you."

She rushed back to her room.

Jordan was supervising the cleaning. "Hey, we just mopped the floor. Are you doing this on purpose?"

Debra ignored him. Finding the gift was her top priority.

Erica, who had been looking for Debra, came to the third floor. Debra was on the floor, using her phone's flashlight to look under the bed.

"What are you looking for?" Erica asked. "We have less than two hours before the guests arrive. Come on, let's get you ready."

"An hour is enough," Debra replied. "I'm looking for the gift Andrew prepared for me."

"What gift? You've got enough already."

"Andrew said a girl's coming-of-age gift has to be special and luxurious."

"But everything he gives you is luxurious."

"Andrew said as long as I'm happy, he'll give me anything."

"Damn rich people."

Debra had searched every nook and cranny, but there was no sign of the gift.

Erica helped but gave up quickly.

Half an hour later

Erica pulled Debra out of the room. "Alright, my lady, it's time to get all dolled up. After today, you'll officially be an adult. Enjoy your last bit of childhood while you can."Debra had been looking forward to this day, but when it finally came, she felt a little melancholic. After this, she would become an adult, which meant no more being spoiled or throwing tantrums.Several big shots arrived for the party. Since the Frazier family's place wasn't as big as the Potter family's, they had decided to host the dinner at the Potter Mansion. The Potter Mansion had never been open to the public before, let alone hosting guests. It showed how much importance both families attached to Debra.A sleek car pulled up in front of the mansion. Jeffrey stepped out first and opened the car door for Claudia. In an aqua dress, the international film star grabbed everyone's attention as soon as she made her entrance.Jeffrey offered her his arm. Claudia smiled sweetly and linked her arm with h

Fermin looked away, his ears turning red. "You look better than before.""What do you mean by that?" Debra huffed."Keep your voice down.""No way.""I'm out of here."Jordan quickly left the room.Erica patted her shoulder. "Alright, it's about time. Let's head downstairs."Debra pouted but soon realized she had a bigger problem."I can't walk.""Huh? You've never worn heels before?"Debra shook her head. She had focused on her studies and had no time for high heels."What should I do?""Just don't run around like you're wearing sneakers, okay?"...Downstairs, Juan arrived right on time. Most of the important guests were already there, including his parents, who were chatting with Gael."Juan, come here," Claudia called, waving him over. She said, "This is my son, Juan, and this is Mr. Frazier, the CEO of the Frazier Group.""Nice to meet you, Mr. Fraizer," Juan said, shaking hands with him."Likewise," Gael replied, impressed. A spotlight shone down, and a flash of red caught Juan's eye.Debra's red dress was bold and eye-catching, but on her, it felt completely natural.Like any debutante, she looked a bit shy.Juan was captivated by her flawless features and refined temperament. She seemed to deserve every beautiful word in the world. An unexpected pang of pain struck his chest. It was a feeling he had never experienced before, like his heart was stolen."Thank you all for coming to my 18th birthday celebration. I've prepared a piano piece for everyone. I'm not great at the piano, but I hope you'll like it," Debra said shyly, casting her eyes downward. She walked over to the white piano and began playing a light, cheerful melody. The audience enjoyed the music. Only Juan kept staring at her, feeling increasingly sure he had seen her and had heard her music before. He just couldn't remember when.Erica murmured from a distance, "Hope she won't hit the wrong note. I supervised her practice all night.

Andrew gathered his thoughts and got dressed. He opened his bedroom door to find Jordan standing outside, looking concerned."Are you okay?""I'm fine."Andrew reached out to pat Jordan's head, but in the end, his hand landed on Jordan's shoulder."Let's get down."Jordan couldn't shake the feeling that something was off with Andrew. Everything had been fine during the day, but now he seemed like a different person. In the banquet hall, Debra's high school friends were celebrating her birthday. After taking some group photos, Gael took her around to greet their family friends, proudly announcing that his beautiful daughter had come of age.Andrew watched with a gentle smile."Andrew." Debra spotted him from across the room, her eyes lighting up.Debra lifted the hem of her dress and trotted over.Erica saw her unsteady footsteps. "Hey, slow down,"When Debra reached Andrew's side, she was slightly out of breath."Do I look good today?""You look beautiful.""Why did you c

Randy started unpacking the bags, but Erica was unimpressed."It's Debra's coming-of-age ceremony, and you bring durian?""What's the matter? I've got some for her, too."Randy enthusiastically handed out durian cakes to everyone.Debra looked down at the box in her hand, unsure of what to say. She never imagined that on her coming-of-age day, she'd be gifted a durian cake. Randy glanced at his watch and said, "You guys enjoy yourselves. I've got something to do. I'll be going now.""Where are you going?" Erica protested."Marion is back from overseas. I'm going to pick him up," Randy explained.Debra froze at the mention of the name. "Marion?" "Yeah. You met him when you were little," Randy replied, puzzled."Marion is my cousin," Erica chimed in. "Your memory's really poor."Debra felt like the world around her went quiet for a moment. The name sounded so familiar. He seemed to be someone important to her. She just couldn't remember."Debra, why are you spacing out th

"Aren't they the same thing?" Debra mused. "Anyway, I want to be with him every day. I don't want him to marry anyone else."Juan smiled in response. As the dance ended, he politely stepped back."Wish you a happy engagement.""Thank you, Mr. Nichols."Debra looked around and quickly spotted Andrew, as she always did.She smiled at Juan and said, "Nice talking to you. Come visit anytime. See you around.""Sure thing." He watched her leave, suddenly feeling the trip had been worthwhile after all."Andrew," Debra called out, running toward him.Suddenly, a maid bumped into her, spilling wine all over Debra's dress. The shattered glass cut her shoulder."Ouch," Debra gasped in pain.A distant voice echoed in her ears, faint and unreal. 'Debra, Andrew, wake up!""Ms. Frazier, are you alright?" the maid stammered, frightened. "Let me help you upstairs.""Wait." Debra grabbed her arm. "Did you hear something just now?""What?" The maid was confused."Any shouting? No?""Ms. Fr

Debra looked at her shoulder and smiled, "It's just a small cut. Doesn't hurt at all.""I wasn't talking about that," Andrew said.Debra was confused.Opening the bathroom door, he added, "Come on, I'll take care of the wound."A maid brought in a first aid kit, and Andrew gestured for Debra to sit on the sofa. He crouched down and carefully placed a band-aid on her injury. His movements were slow, deliberate, and cautious.Debra felt uneasy. "Andrew, what's wrong?"Andrew paused, and she added, "Normally, if I get a little scratch, you just laugh and call me clumsy. But today...""Silly girl." Andrew brushed her nose with his fingers. "It's your coming-of-age day. I don't want to see you hurt.""Just like that?""Just like that.""I don't know, but you're acting strangely today."Debra couldn't put her finger on it, but something felt different."Are you happy today?" Andrew suddenly asked."Yeah." Debra threw herself into Andrew's arms, her face lighting up with a sweet

Andrew maintained his smile. "Happy birthday, Debra. You've always wanted a birthday gift, right? I've been wanting to give you this for a long time.""Andrew." Debra shook her head frantically, tears streaming down her face. She didn't want any birthday gifts. She only wanted him to be by her side.Andrew's eyes flickered with pain as he took out a pair of sapphire rings. They glimmered, reminding her of the harsh reality."Gael gave me this ring years ago. I had a matching one made, hoping to put it on your finger one day, but someone else already did," Andrew said.Debra remembered the moment on the deck when Marion slipped the ring onto her finger. It felt like a lifetime ago."Debra, it's time to wake up," Andrew said, his voice trembling. His figure began to fade away before her eyes."Andrew, don't leave me. Please don't go," Debra cried out, but Andrew was gone.Sensing something, she turned around and saw those faces blurring. She rushed down, eager to hug her parent

It was afternoon already.Debra and Marion parked their car outside the valley.Looking at the sprawling terrain ahead, Debra couldn't shake the memory of trekking through it with Kale just days ago.Revisiting this place made her shiver."Your injury's still fresh," Marion said. "I can go alone."Debra shook her head. "We agreed on going together. Besides, I'm not here to fight. It will be fine."Marion ruffled her hair. "Alright, we're in this together."Enoch brought Erica here to lure them in. That much was clear. Now that they were here, they'd get her out. With night closing in, they quickly followed the route they'd mapped out and headed in.The map from Juan came in handy. In less than 30 minutes, they reached a clearing smack in the middle of four towering mountains.Mist hung light in the air, and the jagged peaks all around gave off a heavy, oppressive vibe.Through the fog, figures in black cloaks and white masks stepped out.Debra slid behind Marion, their han

'When did he get this good?'At the entrance, more guards tried to block Randy. He didn't slow down as he threw punches at them.Even with their number, they couldn't catch him.30 seconds later, Randy was in his car, peeling out toward the valley. Scenes from his childhood flashed across his mind."Leg up. Fist tight. Punch!" Caleb shouted.Erica eyed the wooden dummies in front of them and aimed for perfection.Randy's attention was all on her. He was not interested in these self-defense skills at all."Randy, focus!" Caleb whacked his arm with a cane. "Get real or go home."Randy couldn't care less. The guard at the gate quickly stepped out of the booth. "Greetings, Mr. and Mrs. Houston. Unfortunately, Mr. Osborne isn't home.""We're not here for him," Marion said flat-out. "I want last night's security footage."The guard hesitated. "I'm sorry, but without Mr. Osborne saying so, I can't just hand it over.""Randy is lying in the hospital right now," Debra cut in. "Erica went missing from your place last night. If you don't cough up the tapes and something happens to her, can you take the heat?"The guard was shocked. "Mr. Randy Osborne in the hospital? And Miss Mathis is gone? I'll grab the footage. Hang on."He dashed to the security room. But when he pulled up the feed, the screen was pitch black."What's wrong? Is it busted?" Debra asked. The guard smacked the console a couple of times, and the picture flickered on. There was Enoch, stuffing a sack into his trunk and driving off. That explained why the cameras outside had only caught Enoch.Debra felt a chill run thro

A loud crash blasted through the phone, followed by screeching static.Debra's gut sank. "Randy's in trouble. Let's hurry."Jordan quickly rounded up a crew to track down Randy, while Debra and Marion bolted out of the house. That phone call screamed car wreck. Marion had Randy's location pinned fast, and an ambulance was already on its way."Don't panic. The ambulance is almost there," Debra reminded him, watching him push the speedometer. It was fine if it was just a regular crash. But if the Illuminati had set it up, the consequences were unimaginable. Enoch must have lost his mind to target his son.Debra and Marion had both lost their parents to car accidents. Marion would be devastated if he lost another person close to him."Quick! Get him out!"Thick smoke poured from the crash site. Debra's bad vibes grew. They jumped out and saw Jordan's people loading Randy onto a stretcher."How bad is it?" Debra ran up, desperate for details."Not too serious," Jordan replied. "

The maid froze. "Didn't Miss Mathis leave last night? I don't know where she is. But she's not here."A bad feeling hit Randy like a ton of bricks. He bolted out of the room and ran to the guest room next door. When he flung the door open, Erica wasn't there. The bed was pristine, with no sign of anyone sleeping in it.Erica was lazy as hell. There was no way she'd make the bed herself.Randy lost his head until what Theda had said suddenly echoed in his mind.If Enoch were the mastermind behind the Illuminati, he might have done something to Erica."Where's my dad?" Randy asked, his blood running cold. The maid had never seen him like this. He barked, "I'm asking you where my dad is."She stammered, "I called him last night like you asked. He came back for a bit and took off again."Now he confirmed that Enoch had taken Erica."Give me the phone.""Yes, sir."The maid handed it over.Randy dialed Enoch's number but could not get through.Sweat beaded on his forehead. Erica laughed, getting the implication.Randy coughed dryly. "Mom, what are you even saying? I'm not that kind of person."With that, he hustled Erica out of the room.As the door closed, she frowned. "What now? Your dad is suspicious.""Well, we'll deal with it when he gets back. Now take a rest.""Alright."He led her to a clean guest room."Yvette seemed fine just now. Didn't look like she's got any mental issues.""It comes and goes. She can be normal and confused at times.""Has she seen a doctor?""Yeah. They say it's from some big shock. If she takes it easy, she's pretty much fine. Her nerves are just shot. My dad kept her locked up here all these years. Probably doesn't want folks to know he's got a crazy wife."In his mind, Enoch always put profit and reputation first. If people found out he had a nutcase for a wife, he might ditch her. Even if he didn't, he'd freeze them out.One question was always hovering in Randy's mind. If Yvette wasn't tied to the Potter f

"Erica, let's head upstairs."Randy held Erica's hand as they walked up the stairs. The second floor was dead quiet, and the hallway lights were dim. At the far end was Yvette's bedroom. The door was wide open. Inside, Yvette sat at her vanity, brushing her hair.Nearing 50, she still looked good, though she'd let time take its toll. Her face was lined with wrinkles."Randy? You're back," she exclaimed, catching his reflection in the mirror. She turned around and saw him standing there, holding Erica's hand."Mom." Randy squeezed Erica's hand. "I brought Erica to see you."Yvette's eyes shifted to Erica, and she searched in her memories. After a while, she caught it. "Erica, I remember you. Randy always talked about you when he was a kid. I thought you two were just rivals or something."Yvette walked over to Erica and grabbed her hand. Everyone nodded at Marion's call. They split tasks fast.Randy drove Erica toward the Osborne Mansion, speeding through the dark. When they parked, he didn't budge from the driver's seat."Don't stress. I'm here with you," Erica said, squeezing his hand. She knew what ate at him. If Enoch was really the Illuminati's head, it would spark a war. His relationship with Enoch would be unmendable."I never saw this coming," Randy said, his face shadowed with a rare gloom. He had always known Enoch didn't care about him, Yvette, or their family. In fact, he had never known much about Enoch. Without Theda's hunch today, he'd never have linked Enoch to the Illuminati."If Enoch is tied to them, what will you do?" Erica asked, watching him closely. She knew that blood was thicker than water."I don't know." Randy shook his head.Being the heir to the Osborne family never mattered to him, but he could not deny his bloodline. If it came to picking sides, he didn't know if he'd back Mar
