Chapter 1700

Penulis: Cozy Season
Debra whipped around at the sound.

The maid jumped a little. "Mrs. Houston, what are you doing up here?"

"I-I'm looking for something Erica left behind," Debra replied.

"Miss Mathis's stuff?" The maid was puzzled. "I don't think she left anything."

"How do you know that?"

"Well, she didn't stay long that night. I checked the room afterward while cleaning. Nothing was left behind."

"You were there that night?"

"Yeah, I was on duty. The next morning, I saw her room looked untouched, so I just checked a bit. Nothing was left behind. Did you mix something up?"

"Do you know when she left?"

"Mr. Randy Osborne asked me the same thing the next day. Honestly, I didn't notice. It wasn't until morning, when he told me to bring her breakfast, that I realized she was gone."

"So, you only found out she was missing the next day?"

The maid nodded, but Debra frowned.

"Is Miss Mathis okay? Mr. Randy Osborne seemed pretty worked up that day."

By dawn, the groom’s wedding motorcade rolled up outside.Randy, dressed in a sharp white suit, strode into the house. He was slightly out of breath, and his hair was a bit messy. But it didn't affect his brilliance."Erica, I'm here for you." He beamed, dropping to one knee, ready to hand her a bouquet.Debra cleared her throat. "Forgetting something?""What?" Randy blinked, confused. He'd gone over the pickup routine with Marion. Nothing else came to mind."The bridesmaid gifts," Liza said, arriving late. Her flight had been delayed. Otherwise, she would have joined in the preparation.Theda entered right after her. "No one's blocking the door, but you gotta step up. The bridesmaids need gifts.""Gifts." Randy faltered. He'd been too caught up fixing the venue mess to remember the gifts.Desperate, he shot a pleading look at Marion.Cool as ever, Marion pulled several bank cards from his pocket and handed them to Debra, Theda, and Liza.Randy sighed in relief but soon r

It was 4 a.m., and Debra felt exhaustion creeping in.She pulled out her phone and texted Marion, curious about how things were going on his end.Oddly, Marion took forever to reply."That's weird," she muttered."What's up?" Erica asked, sitting in front of the mirror."Marion's taking ages to text back," Debra replied.Ten minutes had passed, and there was nothing. He usually replied in seconds.Erica tensed up. "Could it be that things went wrong on their side?""I don't think so," Debra said. "Randy might be a mess sometimes, but he wouldn't screw up his big day."To be safe, she called Marion. The line was busy for ages, then went unanswered."What the hell?" she mumbled. She decided to dial again, giving Marion another chance. If he didn't pick up, he'd be in deep trouble when he got home. But before she could press the button, Marion called her."What's going on? Why'd you take so long to answer? Is something wrong?""Just a minor hiccup. We've got it under contro

The wedding day arrived.Erica hadn't slept since 2 a.m. Luckily, Debra had been there with her.She panicked. "What should I do? I've never been married. You've done this. Tell me how to not screw it up.""Uh... Let's start with the dress," Debra said. "Has it arrived?""Right. The dress." Erica quickly dialed the security team.Debra nodded. "This is a good start. Then just take it step by step."But when the dress arrived, she froze. It was a short wedding dress with white shorts as the lining. She blinked, then handed it to Erica. "What is going on with this?""Oh, that? I figured, if I change my mind at the wedding, it's easier to bolt in this.""Bolt?"She knew Erica was nervous, but planning an escape? That was next-level.Erica fidgeted. "Is this bad? Should I not wear it? I had a master custom-make it.""You're not seriously planning to ditch your wedding, are you?" Debra rubbed her forehead."I'm not really gonna run," Erica admitted. "It's just in case. Like, wh

Debra caught on quickly.Erica was scared Randy would turn out like Hunter. At first, Hunter had been all sweet. But over time, he'd treated Barbara like garbage."I can't speak for others," Debra said, "but Randy? No way.""Why not?" Erica asked."Because he's always the one getting his butt kicked," Debra replied.Few men in this world would willingly let the same woman bully them for over a decade."Fair point." Erica nodded, sinking onto the couch. She was still uneasy since the wedding was just two days away. Her parents' failed marriage loomed large. She couldn't shake her fear. She'd told Debra about her family, so Debra knew what she was afraid of.Randy was busy with wedding preparations. When he came back, he seemed not to notice Erica's mood.Debra dropped hints at dinner, but Randy's cluelessness didn't budge.Erica shook her head, understanding the situation. She was always a tough woman, and Randy probably didn't think she'd ever be upset."Erica..." Debra tr

Erica paused. "After watching you for a while, I figured you were just raised like a stray."Randy clapped a hand over her mouth. "Okay, enough, stop talking."He had thought their feelings were mutual all these years. Turned out, it was all in his head.He broke down, realizing Erica was just that oblivious."But you were sneaky-smart," she added, tugging at his tie. "If you liked me, why didn't you just say so?""I did. You didn't listen.""You did?""Yup.""When?"She couldn't recall any signs.Randy sighed, "I tried confessing on the school field, flowers and all. But before I could finish, you snatched the flowers.""Oh. I remember." Erica said. "It was Teacher's Day. I thought you got those for the teacher. I wondered why you were dragging your feet. You should have just asked me to be your girlfriend. I would have got it.""I did say it.""Huh?""After you took the flowers, I said it.""Uh... I don't remember that at all.""You thanked me and ran upstairs. That a
