Chapter 470

Author: Cozy Season
"Go handle it. I want to see the results tomorrow."

"Yes, sir."

Juan headed upstairs. Pedro, who had been anxiously waiting in the study room, hurried up. "I'm sorry about what happened to Miss Blair's baby."

Juan cut him off. "I don't want today's events to get out. You should understand that."

Pedro nodded repeatedly. "Family troubles shouldn't be aired out. I get it."

Juan added, "I want you to arrest Shelia tomorrow."

About to agree, Pedro paused and then looked up in confusion. "What?"

He thought he had misheard.

"Mr. Nichols, technically speaking, causing a miscarriage intentionally isn't a criminal act. If we're to arrest someone, there's no solid reason. Plus, you mentioned not wanting today's events to be known. If we arrest her, it will cause a stir.'

Juan's gaze was unyielding. "She caused a scene at my place today, framing Debra. You just need to make a big show of arresting her. Don't worry about the rest. You can even release her on the same day."

The next day, the class teacher called Juan in again. "Debra didn't do her homework yesterday," she sighed. "She said she's living with you now, right?"Juan glanced at Debra, who nonchalantly looked out the window."Yes," he admitted."I know it's the 21st century, but she is underage. Her focus should be on school, not dating. So..." the teacher faltered, struggling to phrase it delicately."I'll help with her homework. Thanks for your concern," Juan said, turning to Debra. "Grab your bag. We're going home."His tone was so stern that the class teacher jumped up. "We don't condone violence. She just missed some homework. Make sure she does it, but don't get physical.""I never said I'd punish her," he said, raising an eyebrow. The teacher felt awkward, unsure of what to say. Debra chimed in, "That's because of your intense expression."He shot her a look, and she quickly looked down at her shoes.Once they were in the car, he said, "I gave you a quiet place to study, and y

A maid approached. "Miss Frazier, the guest rooms are on the second floor.""Cool." Debra followed the maid through the maze.Every concern of the villa sparked her high schooler wonder.Juan trailed behind, watching her with a faint smile. It was all worth it if he could make her happy."I'll take this one. It's big and pretty," Debra said, picking a room.Juan froze, and so did the maid. She quickly explained, "That's Mr. Nichols' room."Debra blinked. "No way, our tastes are that similar? I knew this one was the best.""No big deal," Juan said. "If you like it, it's yours.""Thanks." She stepped inside and flopped onto the imported bed.It was big and plush. Lying on it, she felt good."Get her some warm milk," Juan told the maid."How do you know I like warm milk before bed?" Debra asked."Most girls do," he stammered. She was skeptical but chose not to dwell on it, given his sweetness. She knew he had snooped. Knocking her habits didn't come as a shock."Go on and sl

Debra clutched herself protectively. "I'm just a high school student. I thought you were a stand-up guy, but you're trying to drag me to your place and..."Juan's face darkened. "What kind of man do you take me for?""Some old creep who asks a girl to live with him on the first meeting," she muttered.Juan fought to keep his composure. He couldn't believe that it was something a 17-year-old girl could say."Listen, you've got two choices," he said seriously. "Get in the car, or go back to Ralph's place and deal with their crap."She hesitated, and he continued, "Rosalie has been nicer lately, right? That's because you're my fiancée. If I call off the engagement, the next few years will be rough for you. And trust me, if I ditch you, no guy in Seamar City will touch you."Debra swallowed hard. "Fine."She slid into the car. If he had led with that, she would have hopped in without a second thought. In the car, they sat in silence.Once arrived, she gaped at the size of the Nich

"But you didn't say why you picked me. Did we know each other before? I don't think we've met," Debra said, squinting at him. "You're dodging the question with all that talk.""I just wanted you to know I missed her once, but fate gave me another shot, even if it's just a dream. It means everything. I'm trying to change, but maybe I still don't know how to really love someone," Juan said. All he could do was protect Debra as her fiancé, shielding her from harm. Maybe his approach was wrong, but it was the best he could come up with."You're wrong," she said. "Even if you love someone, you shouldn't change who you are. Losing yourself for someone else is sad. Everyone loves differently. If she couldn't handle it, maybe you weren't right for each other. But someone out there will get your kind of love."He looked at her, seeing the real Debra shine through.Dream or reality, her soul was the same. She was radiant and unyielding."How's the food?" he asked."Not bad, but the steak'

Juan's blue eyes seemed to penetrate her.Debra squirmed, feeling naked in front of him."Whatever," she muttered, grabbing the pack and pulling out a cigarette. She stuck it in her mouth, but when she tried to light it, Juan spoke up. "You gotta inhale when you light it."She tried, but she couldn't even get the lighter right. Frustrated, she tossed the pack down."So what if I don't know how to smoke? Go tattle on me," she sulked, leaning back.Juan was unfazed. "I'm not gonna do that.""Aren't you?" She eyed him suspiciously."You act like a bad kid at school only because you're scared of getting hurt," he said."You're full of it." Her eyes flickered. "Who dares hurt me, the heiress to the Frazier family?""Well, you're living under someone else's roof," he said, laying it bare. "You don't go too hard in school because you're afraid they will come after you. But you can't look too dumb either, or you'll embarrass them. So, you pretend to be tough to keep people off your b

Juan smiled, but his eyes were filled with disappointment. It made Debra feel bad, like she'd hurt him."I just got weirded out by the snooping," she stammered. "I didn't mean to come at you. You seem like a good guy.""No need to butter me up," Juan said with a faint smile. "This engagement isn't a big deal. But calling it off has to wait until you graduate from college.""Why?" she asked."No reason," he said, setting the takeout aside. "It's cold. Let's eat out."He stood up, signaling the secretary to clear the table.Debra followed, then remembered her homework in the meeting room and turned to grab it.Juan saw it through. "Leave it. My secretary will get it."She hummed in acknowledgment, falling in step beside him.The elevator felt cramped even with just the two of them. She snuck a glance at him. His sharp features screamed a TV-drama CEO.In the underground garage, the driver was ready. Debra followed Juan into the car, clueless about where they were eating. The
