Chapter 337

Author: Edelweiss W.S.
"Your old man is right! Nat has been showing up more and more these days. This is your chance to hang out with her… and then, wedding bells! Honeymoon! Grandchildren! Please, one every year!"

"What name should we give our grandson and granddaughter?" my father started wondering aloud.

The conversation was getting out of hand. I seized the brief distraction and ran. "Maybe next time? I still need to go to Beaushire tomorrow morning!"

"Hey, come back!"

"Where do you think you're going?!"

I ignored my disgruntled parents, closed the door, and collapsed onto the bed, my heart pounding.

Me, marrying Nat? I was a soon-to-be divorced man. She had never been in a relationship before. How could they be so sure she'd want to be with me?

-

The next morning, I had breakfast with my parents before leaving for Beaushire. Now that I had moved my parents into a new home, I no longer had to worry about Hera threatening me over that grant. I could focus entirely on my career.

I invited the bigg

I fought the urge to accept that too-good-to-be-true offer and declined."But why? Don't you want a piece of the pie the Youngkins have?" Naomi asked."I do. But you're not a woman who does charity, are you? What's your angle in all of this?" I said, and I sized her up. "If you don't tell the truth, Naomi, I have no reason to work with you."Out of all the women I had met since I started this company, she was the cleverest. She was clever enough that I had to stay wary before she turned me into a pawn in whatever scheme she had planned."What angle could I possibly have?" she protested. Her face tightened in irritation. "Didn't you just beg me to work with you? Why are you changing your mind now? God, men change their minds like they change clothes!"I wanted to break into Sazaar's market. The prospect tempted me, but I could not work with someone who twisted the truth. I would rather find another route than ride shotgun with someone untrustworthy.I rose and prepared to leave.

I was baffled.Naomi met my gaze with a look of genuine surprise. "You're Sebastian Grimwald, then? The dark horse of Astergrad! The CEO of Sleeping Giant!"And Jeanine Baxter is your secretary, who used to be one of the best employees at Baron Inc., right?"Oh, and the drugs everyone clamors for? Those are formulae written by Astergrad's Goddess of Medicine herself, aren't they?"I stood there stunned. She had managed to recount so much about me and my company. "How the hell did you know all of that?"Maybe she could research Jeanine's and my job titles and history. But Metis' involvement was classified. It was our trade secret.A haughty smile crept across Naomi's beautiful face. "Never ask a woman for her secret, mister. Give me some time, and I can even uncover all of your relationship history."I waved her off. I had not expected her to be such a skilled researcher, and I certainly had not expected her to act this juvenile. "Look, let's just get back to business.""You wan

Naomi shook her head without hesitation. "No." Given her history of lying straight to my face, I struggled to believe her right away. "Really?"She looked helpless. "Of course not. I hardly know anything about that Youngkin family from Astergrad. Stop doubting me. You saved my life. I have no reason to lie to you."The confidential files detail the sick things the Kingsman Group's executives have done, along with filth most people would never imagine. I need to expose them myself, which is why I can't hand the documents to you."I nodded as her words settled. I believed her. If she released those files, the Kingsman Group might collapse. If that happened, it would work like cutting one of the Youngkin family's main arteries."So you would risk your life to expose those executives? Is it worth it? Why would you do that?" I kept my own thoughts close. I wanted to see if she was trustworthy.Anger rose across her face. "Why wouldn't it be worth it? I used to be a senior technical m

Naomi's earnest act almost passed as real, but my patience thinned with every word. She belonged to the kind who never stopped until reality hit her straight on. She was stubborn to the bone."Is that so? Then should I call you Liliane Gray or Naomi Sutton?" I asked. Her innocent, pitiful expression froze at once. She went rigid, guilt written all over her face. "How do you know my name?""What do you think? And you claimed you never lied to me.""T-That was an accident. I only wanted to protect myself. Can you untie me first? It hurts, and I really didn't lie to you this time.""It hurts?"She twisted a little. Rope marks wrapped her wrists in bright red bands.…When Sebastian stayed silent, Naomi clenched her teeth and used her trump card—she switched to acting cute. "It really hurts. Look, I'm already crying. Handsome, please help me. Let me out of this."Most men would melt on the spot, especially soft-hearted ones. Naomi seemed convinced he fit that category.Sebastian

"Boss, is this your kink?" Byleth looked stunned. Her eyes widened as she stared at me and whispered, "No wonder you like plots like this.""Don't start imagining nonsense." I spoke fast to stop another misunderstanding. "She tricked me in the men's restroom earlier. I'm only giving her a tiny scare in return.""Oh. Then you really do have a twisted kink."Byleth suddenly looked bothered. She walked out of the room and stood guard at the doorway without another glance inside. On the bed, Naomi still struggled in panic. Her tears had soaked the blindfold.I saw her fear reach its limit, so I dropped the idea of scaring her further and removed the cloth covering her eyes.…"Mm!" The moment Naomi saw Sebastian, her gaze blurred with tears, yet she still recognized him. 'It's him. How is it him? Is he doing this to take revenge for the lie I told him?'Her fear stayed, though the urge to die faded the instant she recognized his face.Sebastian pulled the towel from her mouth.Na

Not suitable for murder? Did they change their plan and prepare to move Naomi somewhere else?"We'll just keep following them." I pressed down on the accelerator, hoping to pull up beside the van for a clear look inside. The street narrowed into a tight one-way lane, so I had no chance to overtake them. All I could do was trail their bumper."How confident are you against these men?" I asked."Against them? They are small fry. I can floor them without trouble," Byleth replied in a steady, almost flat tone."Good." A breath of relief eased out of me as I continued to follow the van. With Byleth here, even if they brought Naomi to a hideout packed with people, we would still walk out in one piece.I never expected them to stop at a rundown hotel.A moment later, the doors swung open and the thugs dragged a huge suitcase from the trunk. They set it down, unzipped it, and revealed an empty interior.I had no idea what they planned until they hauled Naomi out of the backseat. She wa
