Chapter 13

Sonnet sat down on the bed and picked up a call.

She had just snapped a picture of Logan Scott’s name card and sent it to Lindy. Lindy immediately called her back and said, “Oh my gosh, Sonnet. You got acquainted with Logan Scott now?”

“Who’s Logan Scott?”

“He’s one of Harbor City’s Big Four. Rumor says that he’s an illegitimate son of the Scott family. He established a gang, which has gradually flourished over the years. His work involves both the legal and illegal sectors right now. He’s extremely powerful. Oh my gosh, Sonnet, why are you lucky? You got acquainted with two of Harbor City’s Big Four in two days! Hurry up and tell me how you got to know Logan Scott!”

Sonnet would not hide anything from Lindy. She told her everything that had happened tonight.

Lindy screamed out loud, “7 thousand and 5 hundred dollars?! Are you going to take the job? If you aren’t going to take it, I’ll take the job!”

Sonnet smiled and said, “Alright, stop exaggerating. I just wanted to ask you if you knew this person and his personality.”

She was not afraid of anything happening to his child. She was afraid that she would be involved in trouble if Logan was not a good person.

Lindy got serious as well. “As for his personality…What is there to say about the personality of someone that established a gang on his own? He wouldn’t have been able to achieve everything he did without some schemes, right? However, I don’t think that he’ll make things difficult for you since he’s willing to entrust his child to you.”

Sonnet thought that what she said made sense as well.

Suddenly, a scream rang out from the bathroom. “Wifey!”

Sonnet immediately hung up on the call and ran over to open the door of the bathroom.

The bathroom was extremely foggy. Maxwell stood amidst the fog. The lines of his muscles were as perfect as those of a statue’s!

Her ears heated up as she evaded her gaze at once. “Cover yourself with a towel!”

“Oh,” he responded obediently and proceeded to do so.

Sonnet turned around to glance at him after guessing that he had wrapped a towel around himself. “What’s wrong? Why did you call for me?”

“There’s a bug. I’m afraid!”

Maxwell ran over while speaking. He then burrowed his head into her arms.

He had an extremely tall build. He bent himself down almost ninety degrees just to borrow himself into her arms. It was a rather funny sight.

Sonnet’s arms were soft. She smelled good as well. It was extremely comfortable.

Maxwell took in a deep breath and narrowed his eyes.

Sonnet laughed and pushed him away. “Where’s the bug?”

“On the wall!” Maxwell purposely shut his eyes and pointed at the wall.

Sonnet walked over and took the beetle from the wall. She felt like laughing.

He had such a tall and sturdy build, and yet he was still afraid of such a tiny bug!

She held the beetle in front of him teasingly on purpose. “It’s a beetle. There’s no need to be frightened.”

“Oh!” He jumped up and burrowed her head into her arms.

He had not had enough of her fragrant scent!

Sonnet burst out into laughter and threw the beetle out of the window. “Alright, I’ve chased it away.”

At the same time, she pushed him out of her arms.

Maxwell lowered his gaze. His gaze then froze.

Sonnet’s coat was open. She was wearing a camisole inside her coat.

While burying his head in her chest just now, his wet hair dampened Sonnet’s camisole and caused it to become half-transparent.

The vague curves of her body…

Maxwell averted his gaze straight away and suppressed the heat within his body.

Sonnet did not seem to sense Maxwell’s irregular response. She asked him, “Have you finished showering?”

“I’m done!” Maxwell inched closer to Sonnet and said, “Wifey, smell me. Do I smell good?”

Sonnet took a sniff and said, “Yeah, you smell pretty good. You’re clean now.”

She was used to looking after her children at home. She unknowingly spoke to him like she was speaking to a child.

“Well, will you sleep with me, wifey?” Maxwell blinked and looked at her.

Sonnet looked at his fair skin and handsome face. She could not help but blush.

Maxwell knew what she was thinking. He took out his sheets from the cupboard and placed them on the bed. “If you don’t like that, I’ll sleep on the sofa, and you can sleep on the bed.”

Sonnet looked at his tall build. She felt rather bad to let him sleep on the sofa. She immediately said, “We can both sleep on the same bed. We can sleep with our own blankets. How does that sound?”

“Alright!”

Maxwell let out a sigh of relief while speaking.

If he had to sleep on the same bed and share the same blanket with her, he would not be able to fall asleep tonight.

Sonnet took a shower. They then lay on different sides of the bed under separate covers.

Sonnet pondered on it for a while. She decided to discuss her decision with him first.

Although he was dumb, he had the right to know about it as well.

“I’d like to tell you something.”

“What is it?”

“I’d like to look for a job.”

A glint of interest flashed across his gaze.

This woman had married into the family and was now the Second Young Miss, yet she still wanted to look for a job!

“Why do you need to look for a job?” He asked.

“Because I need to earn money.”

“I have money. I’ll let you use my money.”

“No, that’s your allowance. I can’t spend it.”

If she had married him out of love, she would not have minded sharing everything with her husband.

However, she had married Maxwell with ulterior motives. She had taken 59 million dollars from the Brooks family. She thought that that was enough. She could not treat him like an ATM machine just because he was dumb.

It was her responsibility to look after her father and take care of her children. None of this had anything to do with him.

Besides, women had to have their own careers as well. It was important to be financially independent. One could not depend on others for a lifetime.

Maxwell looked at her. She was kind, tough, independent, and not greedy. He admired his wife.

“Do you…agree?” Sonnet asked softly.

“Sure,” he replied.

Sonnet smiled. Her smile was extremely radiant as she said, “I knew that you were an obedient child.”

“Can you hug an obedient child like me to sleep?” Maxwell took the opportunity to speak to her coquettishly.

Sonnet smiled and patted his back. “Alright, alright. Hurry up and go to bed. Do you want me to sing you a lullaby?”

“Alright.”

Sonnet sang a lullaby for him, but she fell asleep after singing a few lines.

The next morning, the first thing Sonnet did when she woke up was look at her own clothes.

Her clothes were no different from when she had fallen asleep. She was wrapped tightly in her sheets. It seems like Maxwell had tucked her into her sheets.

“Wifey, I’ve prepared your toothbrush, toothpaste, and a glass of water. Go brush your teeth!” Maxwell said happily as he came out of the bathroom.

Sonnet felt bad for not trusting him just now.

He was just a child. How could he have evil intentions?

After helping her father settle down, Sonnet was not in a hurry to head to the hospital. Instead, she had breakfast with Maxwell.

After breakfast, Sonnet’s phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown number.

Sonnet went to the courtyard to pick up the call. A low voice rang out from the other end of the call. “Miss Turner, have you considered my offer?”

“I’ve thought things through. I’m willing to be your son’s home teacher.”

“Alright, when can you start?”

Sonnet pondered on it and asked, “How are the working hours?”

“You start work at nine o’clock in the morning, but your working hours are flexible.”

Sonnet looked at the time. It was seven o’clock in the morning right now. She could head to the hospital to pay her father a visit before heading over to Logan’s house. She then replied to him, “In that case, I can start work today.”

“Alright, you can come to Lux Club straight away,” Logan hung up on the call after speaking.

After having breakfast, Sonnet went to the hospital to pay her father a visit. Myles was in high spirits.

She then paid the doctor a visit and asked about her father’s condition. The doctor was extremely responsible. After listening to his explanation, Sonnet no longer had any lingering fears. She bid her father goodbye and told him that she would come to visit him in the evening before getting into the car and heading to Lux Club.
