Chapter 3

Author: Wealthy Dream
They found the bracelet in my bag.

"I never thought you were the kind of person who'd steal," Bianca sobbed as she clung to Albert, eyes red with tears.

She continued, "I get it. Your family's not well off, and you've never seen anything this expensive before. But that doesn't mean you can steal what's mine. That bracelet was Albert's birthday gift to me."

I frowned and looked at Albert. As much of a bastard he was, I was still the one footing his bill. The least he could do now was to speak up for me, right?

But he didn't. He only glanced at me, then comforted Bianca gently in his arms. "It's okay. We found it, didn't we? If you want, I'll get you another one in a few days."

Found it?

Was he seriously siding with her?

As soon as the words left his mouth, everyone else instantly jumped in.

"Oh my god, I never thought Eve would be a thief."

"I'm keeping my distance from now on."

"Disgusting. Who steals someone's birthday present at their birthday party? She must be insane."

Their voices buzzed around me like a swarm of flies. I clenched my fists and let out a cold laugh. "Check the security footage. Call the police. I've got nothing to hide. Don't even try to accuse me."

At that, Bianca's lips pressed into a thin line, a flicker of panic flashing through her eyes. "Albert already said he won't pursue the matter further. We're classmates. There's no need to blow this out of proportion."

She must be scared that the police would come and prove she was the one who set this whole thing up.

I looked up and stared her straight in the eye. "Apologize and admit you put that bracelet in my bag. Or I'm calling the police."

Albert stepped in front of her and glared at me in disdain. "Don't go too far. We're already letting this go. Stop making a scene."

I was the one making a scene?

I drew in a deep breath. A fight now would barely scratch him.

If I were to take him down, it had to be big. I would make sure his reputation was completely destroyed.

Furious, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the hotel, whispers trailing behind me. I even covered the bill for the entire dinner for Albert.

When I got home, I ran straight into Dad's arms and broke down sobbing.

He doted on me like I was his whole world. The moment he saw me crying, he teared up without even knowing why. Seeing his face, my throat tightened, and I cried even harder.

How devastated he must have been the day I died in my last life.

"Dad, someone pretended to be your son," I said. "He even blackmailed and bullied me."

The second I finished, Dad's face darkened with fury. He picked up his phone to call my university's president, but I grabbed his hand.

"Dad, I want to handle this myself. I was the one who begged you to support him financially, so that we could attend the same university. Now that I've seen him for who he really is, I want to end this myself."

Dad let out a frustrated sigh. "I told you back then. That pretty face of his means no good, but you wouldn't listen. Look what happened now."

I frowned. "Are you helping or not?"

"I'll do anything you tell me to," Dad answered.

Albert cared more about his reputation than anything else. Over the years, thanks to Dad's name, the university had polished his image quite well. As I had never exposed him, even the president thought he was the true heir to the Roosevelt family.

He had gotten too comfortable that he forgot he was nothing but a broke kid living off Dad's support.

Well, I was going to burst his bubble now.

"I'll start by exposing him for the fraud he is," I said. "Then, we'll cut off every last cent of support."

I called the police. They arrested both Albert and Sandra shortly after.Sandra received a life sentence for stealing high-value assets, while Albert got 15 years despite his lesser involvement due to the enormous sum involved. Before being transferred to prison in another state, he requested to see me one last time. I agreed. After two lifetimes of entanglement, it was time for a proper closure. In just a week, Albert was hollowed out and barely recognizable. When he saw me, he tried to stand, but the guards forced him back down immediately. Tears streamed down his face as he struggled to speak. He steadied his emotions for a while before finally saying, "I'm sorry."He paused briefly before continuing, "I shouldn't have used you as my ATM… shouldn't have pretended to be the Roosevelt family's heir. And most of all, I shouldn't have…"Shouldn't have killed me.His remorse meant nothing now. What was he doing all this time? Albert had always been like this, only backing down

I couldn't sleep all night. If Albert was telling the truth—if our fate really was set in stone—then in a month, he'd become CEO again. But I had made sure to change everything from the start. I cut off all support from him. How could he possibly succeed with his startup?I couldn't take it anymore. I crawled out of my bed and shook Dad awake. "Dad, I think I saw the maid from the York estate today," I said. "She was with a man 20 years her junior. You think she's acting like some rich socialite to support her sugar baby?"His grogginess vanished in an instant. He dialed Liam's number immediately. A few minutes later, they decided to catch them red-handed. Naturally, I wouldn't miss out on the show.Dad mentioned that Liam had long kept watch on that maid, just that he was too busy to bother yet. He didn't expect her to be so shameless, doing such acts at this age.We found their location within minutes. All thanks to Liam's people keeping a constant watch on her.Liam knock

I learned my lesson after the incident. Now, bodyguards followed me everywhere on campus.I had planned to make Albert's life hell, but he vanished before I even got the chance. Until our graduation, not once did he appear again.Rumor swirled that his dad sold him to pay off gambling debts. Others claimed that he had been trafficked to some uncivilized area.Good riddance. I felt much at ease without him.Five years after graduation, I climbed up the corporate ladder and became Dad's assistant. To celebrate, I decided to treat myself to a designer purse. As I entered the boutique, I froze at the doorway. What bad luck.Albert, who disappeared for more than five years, stood beside a wealthy middle-aged woman in the boutique."This color complements your fair skin better, baby," he purred, nuzzling her face. The woman couldn't take it and slid a hand under his shirt. They kissed passionately right there. As she tried to grope him, Albert chuckled. "Patience, baby. Tonight, I'

Without the support from my family, Albert's golden life shattered overnight. All those luxury brands I bought him were gifted to Bianca in his attempts to woo her. What remained was worthless junk. In mere hours, he was reduced to nothing. The same arrogant bastard who turned his nose up at the cafeteria food now shuffled through the vegetarian line, queueing for the cheapest option. He did not even dare to ask for a larger portion."Your card's empty, young man," the lunch lady said, her voice loud. I looked up in Albert's direction as I savoured a bite of steak. His face burned crimson, and he slammed his tray down and fled."The audacity," someone sneered. "After that scandal, he still shows up on campus.""Eve's too soft. I'd have had him expelled."Expulsion would be too kind. I wanted him here, broken and clinging to scraps of hope, just long enough for me to shatter everything. He took my life last time. This time, I want him to pay me back in full.Stepping outside

The truth about Albert spread through campus like wildfire. Overnight, the same classmates who'd tormented me to suck up to him flipped their script entirely."You're way too humble, Eve. Who knew you were the real heir to the Roosevelts? No wonder you have the air of an elite.""Eve Hall sounds way classier than Albert Hall. How delusional was he, pretending to be the heir?""Seriously. If I were him, I'd just drop out and disappear."At the front of the class, Albert's grip on his textbook trembled. His usual upright posture seemed to slump today. Then, the door slammed open."Albert Roosevelt, you've got some nerve showing up here!" Bianca stormed in, eyes swollen from crying. She slapped him hard across the face. "Because of you, the entire department's laughing at me!"Albert touched his reddening cheek, voice icy. "I never said I was the heir. You just assumed I was."Bianca froze, then lunged at him, screeching. "Bullshit! You led me on! Why else would I sleep with you?

The next day, I went to class as usual. As I entered the classroom, all that welcomed me was hate and hostility."She still has the nerve to show up. If I were her, I would be ashamed to even leave the house. She's got no shame.""I know, right? She actually stole something. How shameless!""Good thing that Albert and Bianca were kind enough not to press charges. If not, she'll end up in prison."I slammed my bag on the desk and rolled my eyes at the gossiping mutts. "What I do is none of your business. Let me make myself clear. If I hear any of you run your mouth behind my back again, I'll make sure you regret it." My glare made them shut up immediately. They were pathetic, people who only picked on the weak, just like Albert. From the corner of my eye, I caught him sitting there with a book in his hands, acting poised. I'd bailed him out of trouble yesterday, yet he wouldn't even say a word now. A real ungrateful brat. However, his little act wouldn't last much longer. Dad wa
