Nate

Idle chatter continues in the locker room as we strip off our gear and step into the bathroom stalls.

Sticking to Dylan's side, I enter the stall with him and the rest, making sure that Logan is in the third stall.

The last thing I need is to get a hard-on in the middle of a damn shower.

After that, we all dress up and wait for the coach to address us like he always does after every game.

"I'll let them know." He says it into the phone as he steps into the doorway. "They'll hate me fo

Nate "Hey, it's late, wanna go home?" I look up from the bar table at Barney's to spot the barman, or rather, bar lady? She has two faces, two arms and everything. Even as she speaks, her voice is like a distant noise. "I've seen you here. You're from Northwood, right?" She asks, and I nod blearily, glancing around. The entire room spins, and it's dark outside. Damn, I've been here since morning. Drinking. I only quit a few hours ago because I passed out on the bar table. "Not fast enough." The words echo in my head, and I slam my hands over my ears as my body tips over from the stool and I fall to the floor. "Shit," I hear someone say, and before I can manage my weak limbs, someone lifts me off the floor. My head is a banging mess. Hungover from all the alcohol. Arms wrap around my shoulders and arms, and someone leads me out to the door. I tilt my face slightly to see the bar lady's face. She's much older. Maybe in her late 20s or so. Her hair is in a bun, and she looks

Nate Logan tips the glass up, emptying its contents into his mouth. I just watch from afar, an energy drink in my hand. I don't actually want to drink. I can't drink. I have to practice tomorrow. Alone. Like I always do on Sundays. Well, at least most Sundays. The party drags on until the evening when the sun sets and we start playing beer pong. Logan is surprisingly very good at it, but Cam is better. And I'm on Logan's team. He throws the ping-pong ball and it lands inside the cup. Cam downs a shot of alcohol and continues. Logan misses the next one and drinks another shot. He goes on until he's a wobbling mess and can barely even throw. "Okay, that's enough. You win, Cam," I say, grabbing Logan's mumbling self and draping his arm over my shoulder. "Of course I win. No one's better at this than me," he smirks, and I just roll my eyes and help Logan up. "I'm gonna take him to my room. Please chase everyone away when you're done." Cam nods absentmindedly, listening to some

Nate"He's your roommate?" Dylan looks at me, eyes wide, mouth slightly hanging open."Holy shit," Cam adds. "Why didn't you tell us?""Uh," I scratch my head. "I was going to. We just got caught up with a lot of things and it just, I don't know, faded?"Dylan folds his hands and looks at me with an arched brow. "Really?"Sheesh, what a suspicious way to look at someone. But "Yeah," I shrug. "Look, I'm sorry I couldn't tell you guys earlier. But I get along with Logan fine now.""Oh wow," Cam is seemingly surprised."I guessed from the way you guys played today. I was a bit surprised, though.""Yeah, we talk now," I confirm, and heat creeps up my spine remembering most of the talking that we do on the bed. "Let's just go home, alright?"They all nod and we walk as a group out of the school and order an Uber.Cam is so clingy, I swear. The entire ride, his arm rests on Dylan's shoulders even as Dylan focuses on his phone. Like, I mean, yeah, we get that you and Dylan are literally chil

He raises his hand, and all of us jump, and the yells and chants resume. After almost a full 20 minutes of cheering and celebrating, we finally quiet down to let Coach speak. "That was a wonderful game out there. I do have criticisms." We all let out a collective groan at that. "But I'll save them for later." He continues with a warm smile,

NateOh my gosh. What do I do? What do I even say?I stand up and pace around the house."What's up with you?" Eli asks, looking at me like I'm some strange animal walking around in his house."Nothing," I shake my head and tap my phone on my hands.I'll just be cool. Yeah, be cool. Just text him back. Not like I was doing anything bad. So no need to worry.I unlock my phone and tap on the message. It opens.@N. Thorne: Hello@Logan. H: Why were you stalking my profile???Shit, he already caught me, so I can't even lie.@N. Thorne: I just came across it. Besides, I decide what I do with my phone.I mean, what's anything like adding a little sass to shut him up?The floating bubbles appear, showing that he's typing. Then it disappears. Then appears again.A message pops in.@Logan. H: Whatever.I scoff and lock my phone, grabbing my lunch from the table."Ah, ah, ah." Nate"Oh my gosh, Mom, please. I'm grown. I don't need to have a party at home." Dylan whines, talking to his mom on a video call while the rest of us just lounge and create chaos in the background. She's used to it. And she loves us. All of us."I'm just saying I wanna see you on your birthday this year, honey. You don't need to have the party here.""You always say that and make me stay over and have the party.""Not to mention you won't even be happy if we don't win that game next week." Cam quips by my side as I lounge on the bean bag in the living room, playing with a Rubik's cube."Is that Cam?" Dylan's mom says, and we all roll our eyes playfully, including Cam. "Let me see him."Cam bounces like a huge puppy and lands smack on the couch next to Dylan."Hey, Ma." He waves at her on the phone screen."Hello, honey, how are you? Oh my God, you look so thin. Are you and Dylan even eating properly? Hope you're not practicing to the bone?""We're fine, Annie." He just smiles at her.
