Chapter Twelve

We got back to the Marshalls amidst our songs of joy and victory. I was not really into it, because it turned out to be a nightmare and horror for me. Mercury was badly injured even though it wasn't visible. She had internal bleeding and was also taking with the others for proper medical attention. That night, the soldiers made camp fire by putting woods over each other and burning the Shallomes flag, marking their victory at the field. My sister looked everywhere for Asher. But she couldn't find her. She went to look at the names of the soldiers admitted to the hospital and there was no Asher Jackson on it. She knew without being told, Asher didn't make it. I felt so guilty having her find out about it that way, but there was nothing I could do. I couldn't stand to tell her how I saw Asher die and couldn't do nothing.
