It was late.

Nathan had tried calling Lillian several times since getting back from work.

Earlier, Samantha had mentioned where her mother had gone, but neither of them realized she’d left without her phone.

It still sat untouched on the chair where she had sat before she left.

Silent. Unmoving.

The screen lit up with each call, vibrating softly, unanswered.

No ringtone. No response.

Nathan grew more restless with every failed attempt, pacing the room, worry slowly tightening its grip.

Both father and daughter waited, not just with worry, but also with curiosity. Hope. Doubt.

Then—a knock.

Samantha was the first to move. She rushed to the door, her heart jumping ahead of her body.

“Mum!” she called out as she flung it open, and there stood Lillian, tired, pale, her bag slung over one shoulder. Samantha wrapped her arms around her, clutching tightly.

Nathan appeared in the hallway corner. “Welcome, dear,” he said quietly.

Lillian managed a small smile—cool, controlled, hollow.

It was Monday morning.Samantha sat quietly in class, but her mind was far away. Not thinking about Jake. Not thinking about Daniel. Not about friends or family. Not even her struggles. Her only thought… was her school fees.Exams were coming up next week, and today was the final payment deadline—extended for the very last time. She needed to pay the balance. But she didn’t have it.Her eyes stared at the lecturer, but the words didn’t reach her.She was there… but not really there.Worry filled her chest like water in a sinking boat.“um… umm… umm.” Joan cleared her throat gently, snapping Samantha out of her deep thoughts. She had been watching her closely. It didn’t take much to guess—this was about school fees.Samantha hadn’t even noticed when her seatmate shifted over, making space for Joan to sit beside her.Samantha blinked, returning from wherever her mind had gone. All she could do was nod, the heaviness still sitting quietly in her chest.“Hi Joan,” Samantha whispered.Joa

“Hey! Look who’s here!” someone called out from across the seats as she spotted Samantha through the window. Almost all of Samantha’s colleagues rushed over, their voices overlapping with excitement.Samantha barely reached the entrance before she was surrounded.Smile.Hugging.“Sorry!”“We missed you!”all at the same moment. It was her first day back on campus since the accident, and the moment she stepped into the lecture hall, everyone stood and rushed toward her.The outpouring of love came fast and full.Rebecca flung her arms around her, eyes bright.“It’s been two weeks,” she said.“But it felt like two years!”“I missed you so much,” another voice added from the crowd.Samantha couldn’t help but smile.Naomi barked through the crowd, protective and loud:“Y’all be careful! She’s healing—watch the bruises, okay?”Tasha and Mirian tried to help Samantha with her backpack, careful not to press her too hard. They managed to grab the bag, but with the crowd pressing in, there was

  • HER LOST BROTHER IS A BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER 22: The Temptation Men Hardly Resist

“Don’t worry, dear. It’s nothing,” Nathan replied gently when Samantha noticed his thoughtful silence. But deep inside, his curiosity burned. Who was this man? And the boss he mentioned? Something didn’t sit right. Maybe I’ll investigate it myself, Nathan thought quietly.Meanwhile, Samantha spent two weeks healing and resting at home, recovering fully before she returns to school. Friends came by to cheer her up—Jake, Daniel, Naomi, Tasha, Marian, and some others. They brought food, laughter, and endless stories to make her smile. One quiet afternoon, Samantha turned to Jake. “That paper you said you wrote for me… can I read it now?”Jake smiled and shook his head. “Not yet. When you’re back in school, strong and well—that’s when you’ll get it.”Samantha rolled her eyes playfully but nodded her head. Then came Friday.Jake, on his way to see her, sat in a yellow taxi. He spotted something—A girl was standing alone beside a car on the expressway. One hand on her hip, the other

“Why are you acting this way?” he asked carefully. “Be free with me, ma’ams. You’re my relative... right?”“Yes, sir,” I said quickly.“No, sir,” Gloria cut in at the same time. The man looked at both of us, visibly confused.Realizing the mismatch that we’d given conflicting answers, I quickly echoed her,“No, sir,”But then Gloria reversed course and echoed mine,“Yes, sir,” almost at the same time.We both turned to look at each other, thrown off. Confused. I'm a little embarrassed. Then glanced back at the man, whose expression said it all:What is going on here?He leaned back slowly in his chair, arms crossed, just... watching. After a long pause, Gloria pointed at me and said, “She’s looking for her lost son too.”I whispered harshly, my face scrunched. “Gloria…”But she kept going.“Her son went missing many years ago,” she said gently.“To cut the story short, we’ve held onto hope… believing that someday, a miracle would knock at our door. And learning your story—Hearing what

Lillian’s brows furrowed deeply as she stared at Gloria. “Are you sure of what you're saying?” she asked, voice low, disbelief heavy in every syllable.Gloria blinked. “Ah-ah, Lillian, don’t tell me you’re doubting me, oh.”“I’m not doubting you,” Lillian replied slowly, “I’m just… struggling to make sense of this. You said a stranger came to town.A boy.How does that connect to me?To my family?”Gloria planted her feet and exhaled sharply.“Why are you acting as if the disappearance of your son no longer means anything to you? I don’t understand this reaction.I expected you to leap up! To grab my hand and beg me to take you to him immediately. But look at you… You’re behaving like a doubting Thomas.”Lillian’s shoulders tensed. Her eyes dropped to the ground, then back to Gloria’s face.“No, na,” she said carefully. “You shouldn’t expect me just to jump up and call attention to the world that my son is back, without solid proof.“Are you coming or not?” Gloria asked, her voice tig
