When I woke up the next morning, Ella was already gone.

At first I just laid there confused, staring at the empty side of the room. Her bag was gone too, which meant she didn't just step out for something small.

I picked up my phone immediately.

No messages.

That was weird.

Ella normally woke me up before leaving anywhere, even if it was just to say bye or complain dramatically about her feet hurting. I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes.

I stared at my phone after sending the message, my thumb hovering slightly over the screen. How about that date? The more I looked at it, the more unnecessary it started to feel. Maybe I only sent it because I needed a distraction. Maybe I just wanted something lighter to focus on after everything that happened earlier. Either way, suddenly the message felt impulsive enough to make me want to take it back. I was already about to delete it when my phone buzzed immediately. "Seriously, you want to go on a date with me? I blinked slightly at the message. He sounded genuinely excited. Not fake excited either. Actually happy. Before I could even reply, my phone started ringing. Jay.I stared at his name for half a second before answering. "Hey," I said quietly."Hey." The smile in his voice was obvious immediately. I kept staring at that name like it meant something special. Only one question was on my mind, why. Why now. Why now when I'm about to be in the moment. Why now when I'm finally finding everything, including myself. I let out a slow breath, my fingers tightening slightly around my phone as I kept reading the name over and over like it would change into something else. It didn't. It stayed the same, simple and familiar in a way that made my chest feel tight. Oh hell no. He's not coming back to ruin everything I've picked up and carefully put together. I didn't know whether or not to reply, so I just texted "hey" and sent it before I could overthink it too much. A part of me hoped he wouldn't respond, that it would just end there and I could pretend I never opened that door again. But my phone lit up almost immediately. Hey How are you? I stared at it for a second before replying. Fine. He didn't stop there. How's everything? School? Fine. I could already f

"Why did she rush off like that?" I murmured to myself. Then I shrugged lightly.Maybe she had somewhere important to be.I didn't think too deeply about it after that because I had tutorials that morning and if I kept lying there, I was definitely going to be late. So I dragged myself out of bed and started getting ready. I ended up wearing boot cut jeans and a fitted top because it was one of those mornings where I wanted to look good without stressing too much. My mirror almost tempted m

Ella and I got back late. Not extremely late, but late enough that my heels were already annoying me and Ella was still talking about the party like we hadn't just spent hours there together. "I still can't believe that guy fell into the speaker," she said while laughing for the hundredth time. I dropped my bag on the chair and laughed too. "That was actually your fault." "How?" she gasped dramatically."You pushed him." "I barely touched him!""You almost sent that boy to heaven, I'm pretty sure he hates you now" Ella burst out laughing again while kicking off her shoes. "why, because I almost sent him to "heaven". I held my chest laughing, least the party wasn't boring She wasn't wrong. It actually ended up being more fun than I expected. Not life-changing or anything dramatic, just easy. I danced a little, took pictures with Ella, laughed more than usual and somehow didn't spend the entire night inside my head for onc

I had clothes scattered all over my bed at this point. Ella was already dressed and somehow still had the energy to keep talking while I was stressing myself out. "You've changed outfits like three times already," she said, sitting comfortably on my chair. "I have not.""Anna." "Okay maybe twice," I admitted.Ella rolled her eyes dramatically. "You're actually doing too much for somebody that said she didn't even want to come." I ignored her and held up the two outfits again. The party was denim on denim, and I was still stuck between a jean romper and a denim crop top with a skirt. "Be serious," I said, showing her both properly this time. "Which one?" Ella looked between them for a few seconds before pointing immediately. "The skirt." "Really?""Yes." I narrowed my eyes slightly. "Are you sure?""Anna, wear the skirt." I looked at it again, then nodded slowly. "Okay fine. Skirt and shirt it is."
