MasukIt's no surprise that Sean wouldn't cry about the demise of his despicable mother, but I'm still confused. She speaks like it was a really heartless thing for Sean to do, making me guess that they do not know the type of relationship he had with her."That's…" I try to start a sentence but decide to keep shut as nothing reasonable comes to mind except more questions and I have to be careful not to spill Sean's secret."Yeah," she sighs, "that's why most people hate him but can't show it, because their fear is greater.""Hate him?" I ask annoyed, "Why would you hate someone when you haven't even heard their side of the story? That's just cruel and unreasonable.""Well," she says, "life's fucked."She sips her tea again, and I stay quiet, trying to free myself of every anger and concentrate on the questions to ask."Queen Crystal," I say, and she looks at me with a horrified look and puts her index finger on her lips, signaling for me to shut up."You can't go about saying her name that
"You do not seem to be really fond of the royals and rulers," I ask although sounding more like an already confirmed fact. I remember how she didn't like it that they kept the war a secret from the people, and I've never noticed her in any gathering, not the wedding nor ritual."What's there to be fond of?" She scoffs, and I smile, thinking of ways to get any valid information from her."Never been a friend to a royal?""I wouldn't even want to be entangled in such a stressful relationship," she says, sounding like she's talking from a secret pain she feels."Have you had any friends at all before?" I ask calmly and she chuckles."Is there a person who hasn't?" She says and sips her tea while I listen calmly. "I did have a friend once before, the kindest of all creatures you'd ever meet. She was sweet and different, didn't mock me like the others did about my love for books and when she had the power, she made me matron and supervisor of this really amazing library."What? Who is she
Taking a deep breath, I turn around with my head held high and fear held at bay as I look at Jana, who is looking back at me puzzled."You know your way to the library, don't you?" She asks, still puzzled as to why I'm standing here and looking at her."Of course I do," I respond boldly, "but I'd like you to accompany me.""I thought you said you didn't need any company," she frowns, "Why else would you ask Zara to leave?""I'm sure you know that by now," I say, and she smirks, removing her glasses and placing them on the counter just beside her now closed book."I'm right behind you," she says, and I nod once, walking away proud and fulfilled. It feels so good to be able to do what you want without much questioning. I guess I'm indeed queen.I walk upstairs quickly and enter the book-filled room, then walk towards the shelf Jana showed us the other time. Like before, it's arranged neatly with so many books and, surprisingly, OUR KINGDOM'S TALE, the book I just returned, is sitting in
"This is an awfully quiet walk and that's strange since it's with you," Zara says, and I sigh, forcing a small smile."Unusual happenings seem to be the order of the day lately, don't you think?" I respond and she chuckles.Huh? Zara chuckled at me? I guess I'm making progress."You wanna talk about it?" She says as we turn into the library estate and I finally let my guard down a little since there's no one in sight. Asides my unsettled mind, the fear I felt walking through the streets of this kingdom was just a complete weigh down on me. They all kept looking and whispering, but in a few eyes, there wasn't just hate. Fear joined in. I'm guessing it's because of the scene I made during the ritual. Now they fear me because they don't know me. Oh well, that's not too bad because I feel the same way. I don't know me either and it's scary as hell."It's nothing serious," I respond to Zara, "I just had a slight quarrel with Sean.""Oh, couples fight.""He just always has something to hid
*CRYSTAL'S POV*My heart leaps for joy as I walk out of the meeting hall with Zara behind me. She probably noticed how uncomfortable I was and saved me from further awkwardness. I can't sit there and listen to them talk about me like a lab rat. Lord knows I would've excused myself if Zara hadn't stepped in.We walk in silence till we get to the front of my room and once we're there, Zara stops walking."Have a nice rest, your grace." She bows slightly when I turn around and look at her with confusion etched in my forehead."Don't leave. Stay with me," I say almost pleadingly, but still with authority. She looks at me for a while before finally nodding once, and I smile, opening the door for us to go in. Once we're in, I remove my shoes immediately and pack my hair in a pony while Zara stands rigidly by the door, watching me."Come in," I chuckle, and she does as told, sitting on the couch while I sit on the bed. Every day, I wake up, thinking everything's fine and try to forget all
*SEAN'S POV*They all look at me with expectant eyes, waiting for my response while I try to frame the perfect answer."I stopped it." Crystal speaks up, surprising everyone, and my heart starts to beat faster as I pray to the goddess that she doesn't blow our cover. "Of course, an investigation was going on, but I stopped it. It's only wise and safer for me that we do not catch or punish whoever the culprits are because, in doing that, we're only aggravating the anger in the people therefore exposing me to more danger."They nod their heads in agreement and my lips upturn slightly in a proud smile. She sure is a wise little woman."Are there any more discussions?" I ask, completely aware that we haven't even reached the main topic of discussion. The ritual. It's like everyone is waiting for someone to bring it up and if no one does, I'll be even happier. That way, I can figure out things on my own without too many people meddling in Crystal's business."Nothing else?" I ask after a
